Frampton still looks jittery in close in d50. That hospital handball to Doedee in the last. There's something about him that looks good and something that looks bad. Same with Himmelberg.

He bought himself a decent chunk of games today.

The remarkable rise of Billy Frampton

It's often a last-ditch resort with tall forwards – throw them in defence and see what happens. After a few shaky games and moments, Frampton was immense against the Dogs, recording a career-high 26 disposals at 89 per cent efficiency, 10 intercepts, nine marks and 502 metres gained.
what we saw from Billy today was what we, those of us who watched all the SANFL games last year, saw in the second half of last year in the SANFL once he’d been moved back into defence.

a bloke that was dominant down back, that rarely made mistakes, hit team mates lace out kick after kick, defended and spoilt well and marked everything that came his way.

if it has clicked and he has managed to bring that SANFL dominance to the AFL then we might be looking at the perfect partner for butts, a saved career and some happy supporters.

long way to go yet though.. he needs to show he can consistently bring what he did today week in week out.

I have a feeling we’ll see some more ups and downs from him over the course of the next few months but really need to just back him in at this point.

the best thing about today?.. in the past couple of weeks he’s looked fumbly and nervous at times, like a bloke who’s a bit panicky knowing he’s playing for his life (career).. and maybe today is the turning point that gives him the confidence to bring that consistency to his game.

he was one of our best today.

Also from the AFC match report:

I've been an outspoken/frustrated critic of Frampton since about R3 last year, but he really turned it around today and showed us all that he can football at AFL.

He was immense today; showed a cool head when in possession and several of his contested/intercept marks were outstanding. Not that he's going to read this, but --- apologies, Billy. :)

I thought our fitness was good last year. I think 'the Burgo effect' is way overblown. Results wouldn't come this quick anyway.
Ironically I reckon Burgo's biggest impact this year has been on our mental resilience. I recall him saying earlier in the year that a key focus was getting the lads used to adapting to different and changing circumstances in games, by doing things like making last minute changes to training routines, withholding details on what they would be doing in training etc..

You can absolutely see how that's translating in games now - our ability to adapt and evolve is noticeable. This is the second week in a row now where a more fancied opponent has hit the front at the pointy end of the game, and we've arrested control again to win the game.

He's been a bloody good investment.

Funny that a common view of Keays is something along the lines of,

'If he cleaned up his kick, he'd be elite.'

So many elite players don't have that kick. Tell me how Keays this year has been different than prime Danger. Seems like just because we got him for free, and wasn't rated elsewhere, we actually have a higher bar for him?

He is absolutely elite. He is everywhere, creates so many opportunities from his hard work. Forward, centre, and in defence.

One of the best in the comp. Fight me.
No disagreement/fight from me.
Keays is in and under all over the ground, as you said. BoG for my money.

From the Ch7 commentary the thing I heard most (apart from how magnificent/wonderful the Dogs are) was a very loud
"KEAYS!", especially in the last.
Loved it!
[Just imagine if he improved his r-foot kicking and lowered his eyes a little more often --- but I get it. He's busy, in tight situations and does get the ball out to the Crows' advantage often]

You really think one person can come in and change a whole group's mindset straight away?

We were on an upward trajectory last year and after a really poor (and disrupted) start to the year, we've looked better each game and are playing similar football to our best form last year.

I just think it's impossible to quantify any 1 person's effect especially from the outside. We're quick to praise Burgo as soon as we start winning, but what about the rest of the staff? Skills and ball movement have been improving, yet no one mentions Nicks or any of the coaches?

Your right, it's probably not the sole reason. But nor is it coincidence that the very thing he's called out as an early focus (mental resilience) has been such a big feature of our season so far.

He was great today, only needs to become better at the one on one stuff to improve. Hope he can because teams will try and isolate him to get the better of him.

Jones is fast becoming one of our most consistent players. His ability to pressure the ground ball in defense because of his speed is brilliant.
Dont see how you can make this argument. Jones has not been consistent. His form has actually been pretty bad bar the last two games. He was a bees dick away from being dropped. He bought himself a stay of execution though so deserves some credit.

Good
Our tackling!

The first time in living memory that I've posted that

Usually our tackles miss or get broken easily, and when we actually stick one the opponent gets their hands free and does exactly what they would have done had we not been tackling them

Today we actually caused some spills, stopped their handball chains, forced some rushed kicks. If holding the ball against the Bulldogs hadn't been removed from today's rule book we would have won quite a few frees.
