Really hope he is over his concussion issues & gets a good run now with injuries... as we need a Milera replacement.

Are we missing something here? Seems like elite kicking accumulator half back flanks are popular right now. Some of team’s best players are on the half back line.

I’m starting to wonder if our coaches actually watch the sanfl replays at all. Blind Freddy could see that Nank is a unique talent by watching a few of our sanfl games but he was overlooked for waaay too long.

i think there is enough evidence our coaches barely watch the AFL game let alone our reserves matches.

No one who watches our entire games would continue to select Ned or Murphy. Would keep persisting with 3 inside ball winners at our centre bounces etc etc. No one is that stupid..

I reckon they sit up there in their fancy box just playing Minesweeper and Tetris.

Need better ball use than Laird in that situation Curtin looks to have the skill set

It will be interesting to see if he can translate his ability to play midfield in juniors to AFL level. It will take him a couple of years to find his feet but giving him some game time now and building him up over the duration so he can establish his game at the highest level makes way more sense than having him sit in the Sanfl.

We are playing top ups in roles these guys should be playing that’s just dumb ****ery

The same with Dowling though. He has shown plenty since he was drafted. Alright, I can excuse last year as a building year. May not have been consistent enough etc. But this preseason and the games at Sanfl level so far show he is wasting his time at Sanfl level. Should be brought in immediately. I'm not sure why we are waiting.

It is bewildering

That was actually Will Hamill's first AFL game since August 2022

Pretty good return, tbh
He did play quite well and did kick much better than he did in the SANFL... it seems that currently the SANFL is not a great space for our younger players to learn atm (due to injuries and lack of depth), which is why I think we should try out Curtin in the senior side ASAP. His skills are great, and I think that he will play even better in the senior side. I think we need to give him a chance to build his confidence, before he decides to leave.

This is a problem with the Sanfl. A lot of our younger players are restricted due to the capabilities of the top up talent, many wouldn't get a game at another Sanfl club. This is just one reason as to why continuing to play guys like Dowling and Curtin in the Sanfl is just wasting their time and the clubs.

Ftfy. :sneaky:
Nicks scores a massive FAIL over the first 4 rounds.

Let's hope all of the Coaches adopt/sustain the changes made vs Carlton (I still don't believe it was Nicks' initiative).
I think it’s a bit of both. Nicks made some questionable selection and tactical decisions, which always looks worse in hindsight after a loss.

Although the first round loss I consider it a fair effort considering no 2 full forwards and in an away game. Also poor kicking accuracy in the first 4 rounds is definitely the players fault, nothing to do with the coaching on the day.

He was AA off halfback for a reason. He is not a poor, unskilled footballer.
His stats got him the AA position as they do with most players. His kicking is garbage as was again obvious on the weekend. Breaks out of the centre with minimal pressure and kicks it straight to the opposition, repeatedly. The few times he finds a team mate it’s that high in the air it gives the oppo enough time to get to it anyway. Playing off half back he will kick it more than handball and the oppo will send it straight back over his head.
I seriously don’t know why people are trying desperately to find a spot for him. We should be giving the game time to the younger ( future) players.

There was one kick he absolutely nailed coming out of the back line in the last. Loved seeing that.

The harsh reality is, the poor bastard is probably 1 more concussion away from forced retirement. I hope against all hope it's not for many years.
You monster!

I hope for his sake it never happens.

3 gold jackets. 2 x AA. Played for Australia and those honours you attribute solely to stats?
Nah, he's a bloody good footballer who would be 1st 22 in any side in the AFL.
The constant bagging of him on this site is pure bs.
