Since I keep hearing how good he's going to be and I'm not arguing the point on that because that's the future. What about the things he does that a smart player would never do. Like trying to barge through 3 tacklers who had him completely locked up . You just go to ground and it's a ballup. You don't give the ump the opportunity say you tried to avoid the tacklers. That's was another so..... perplexing.

Didn't mind that since he was trying to impact the game. The long stretches where he goes missing are far more frustrating IMO, especially because he is one with game winning abilities.

One small funny pre-game moment, did anyone catch BT trying to convince Scotty Pippen to go for the Pies? It went something like:

BT: "Well you've got the Pies, they're a real hard working team, great team, just a really good solid team full of great players and great supporters, really a very good team. And then you've got the Lions, they're a bit different"

Pippen: "Yeah I'm going for the Lions"

Sure he tries to impact the game. I get it that he tries to do the inspirational. Watch that again . No hope of impacting anything with 3 players hanging off you. He just lacks awareness and that issue really stood out on Saturday.

Hopefully this can be rectified with maturity, a huge step up in fitness and the other factors that are going to make him a champ.

I will never watch anything relating to this game again but on the Roar Deal Mike Whiting mentioned that Dunkley slipped over in the moment leading up to the De Goey goal which is a thought that will haunt me. Imagine if he kept his feet.

We slipped over a LOT in that game, and have been slipping over a lot all year.

Tell you what needs to happen, moulded boots need to be banned from the team. Screw in spikes only, would go a long way to making our players not look like they’re running on an ice rink.

Can't remember if our red time of each quarter was poor throughout the year but we certainly got taught a good lesson. Another point for improvement.

Our red time has been shocking for years, it’s probably the one thing we haven’t improved on at all since 2019.

He has a lot to work on, that's for sure

We had a few players slip over during the game, and it’s been pretty common throughout the season.

Something else to look at in the offseason.

Grand Final quarter times 1st 34min, 2nd 35min, 3rd 30min, 4th 30min. Red time in the First and Second quarters really hurt us. What was the reason these 2 quarters went longer because no-one knew at the game?

Oh God is 3KZ becoming funny again? Might need to rethink my ignore list
Nah keep ignoring me, like you did when I tried to explain that Ryan Lester should be in the senior side.

With a fully fit squad, I have Gardiner in ahead of Lester now. And Gardiner has been my whipping boy for at least 3 past seasons.
Good for you. I think Lester offers more in terms of rebound and intercepts. Lester was second, behind Harris Andrews, intercepts this season. A valuable contribution that Gardiner will not be able to match in 2024.

Edit: intercepts - not ‘intercept marks’

Spikes? No way in hell that would be allowed. In believe even screw-in studs are banned these days, anything with exposed metal in them anyway. Besides the fact that running 10-15km, 20+ times a year on long stops are not ideal on the body.

But one thing I will never ever understand is what drives an adult to laugh react at players being upset after a loss. It’s a hideous side of society.
Opposition fans have mocked the images of Malthouse and Licuria in tears after Collingwood's 2002 Grand Final loss for many years and I've always hated it. Saturday's game was a great spectacle and hard fought contest (unlike the Swans and Giants recent GF efforts) and I only have respect for the Lions efforts.

Kiddy finished as the runner up in the Gary Ayres medal (best finals player as voted by the coaches). Huge effort.

There are plastic screw in studs, they don’t only come in metal. But they’re longer and much more stable than the shit made-for-soccer moulded stuff that doesn’t provide you any more traction than an old pair of thongs.

With all due respects, that should have happened after the 2022 Preliminary Final loss to Geelong when Rayner seven disposals in the first half and had a negligible influence on game, prior to being subbed out injured.

Respectfully, I would think a teacher would understand learning and development is not linear. I wish it were - but it is just not reality.

First post since the game, that one hurt.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing, but looking back we may have benefited from Lyons starting with either Fletcher or Ah Chee as the sub.

A few things on the Pies which we need to learn from.

They are exceptionally fit and relentless runners. Their scoring late the quarter killed us, especially the 2 goals after the siren. I think this is reflective of their fitness but also their ability to maintain their concentration and focus, we can be hot and cold within games - we need to get this out of our system.

They also have a great ability to get in front and defend a small lead. In part I think this is because they congest the area around the ball and the opposition’s forward line, they then defend and pressure manically waiting for the fast break that they can make into the vacant area in their half of the ground. In some ways their ability to congest and control a game with a small lead is similar to how the Swans played under Roos.

They can also respond very quickly with one or two goals of their own when an opponent gets within striking range.

Part of me wonders to what extent Collingwood out coached us, with assistants that include Leppa and Bolton you know that they have a significant coaching arsenal. Would like to see us bring in an ex senior coach as an assistant.

Anyways, time heals all wounds.
