I'm talking about on the field

Rayner probably throws himself at the footy and takes tackles more recklessly than anyone else in the GF

I think he will learn a lot from Saturday and expect the loss will absolutely drive him to reach a new level of fitness to have a bigger impact.

Just needs a few more tools

Can't rely on hangers and breaking tackles to have an impact

Thought the Freo game was a turning point where he lead up and was a handy link up forward because his kicking can be a real asset

I didn’t see it on the day, but the thought to put an extra in defence (Rayner) was a failure. It was mentioned here, and mentioned on SEN this morning. It also failed against Melbourne (Gunston) and another instance I can recall (Gunston again). The question is if it was successful at other points in the season, or we should do away entirely with this tactic and attack the last few minutes of the quarter like we do the rest of the game.

That aside, i was happy to concede Collingwood were better and walked away from the match very disappointed, but proud that our boys put in a massive fight.

What has really broken my heart is the “what-if” around the advantage call after Lachie was legged with 90 seconds to go. Certainly having trouble processing this element. It’s only a moment amongst many… but devastating.

I will never watch anything relating to this game again but on the Roar Deal Mike Whiting mentioned that Dunkley slipped over in the moment leading up to the De Goey goal which is a thought that will haunt me. Imagine if he kept his feet.

Yeah it's pretty clear.

Not sure the second effort was too great either

Yeah lots of what-ifs and how Daicos was allowed to get open in the centre square right before that would be another one. Is what it is.

I'm not haunted at all by what happened at the end.

It's what happened at the end of the first and second quarters that did my head in.

We lost it more there than in the last quarter where we basically had them on the ropes at times and would've won it had we started off with a lead.

But that's footy. It's a random game . Random things happen.

Likewise re watching anything to do with the game again, so the below is only going off my memory at the time.

I feel like I watched him slip in slow motion as it was right in my line of site, in standing room in M11. At the centre bounce after the Charlie goal the one thing we needed to do was not allow the flowing centre clearance, but that is what happened.

Not sure also if anyone has mentioned it re Berry and the 50. I could see what he was trying to do, he was falling and realised if he lost his feet and Sidebottom didnt, Sidebottom was off and gone with open space in front of him where he would have been able to spot up a lead or target with no pressure inside 50.

Obviously he completely overcooked it and slung him and there was no doubt it was a 50, but I'd say it was more an execution problem than an undisciplined act. He needed to try and get himself 'tangled' up with his legs to make it appear accidental and give some room to get the benefit of the doubt, which Collingwood seem to be the masters of.

Probably the worst call of the day which I cant get over was the Cox dropping the ball, which was also right in front of us. He almost had 2 goes at it and then just blatantly dropped it.

Anyway could go on forever with the whatifs which is why it is so hard to take.

Think they had us on the ropes a couple of times too. It was a fair result, the win, and 4 points flattered us.

Enjoy the off season, everyone!

I agree, have since settled, and never did I feel like we would win Saturday, more of a hope than confidence during the game, even after the Charlie goal. Fitting that we gave up a goal instantly after kicking, a glaring issue throughout the year.

Also 6 months to recover, Dunkley was apparently injured and off the field at the end, any idea on what it was ?

The what ifs
I tend to focus on the parts we control.
What if Eric marked that first take instead of bouncing off his chest.
Does he go on to have a blinder
Kiddy losing hill in defence for Hills first goal
It’s always about little moments of play and they had more positive ones , but also had a little luck with the bounce at times but then you could say credit to them for banging the ball forward .

I am a Collingwood fanboy and think it was one of the best GFs ever. Not because both teams performed anywhere like their best, in grand finals they rarely do. Both teams held up well under the incredible pressure. It was heart in the mouth stuff all day. 1st half a bit of a shoot out and the second a grind. We looked like the better team most of the game, but your ability to score high quality goals was just brilliant to watch.

Pies played as well as they possibly could have. Lions were way off though

With all due respects, that should have happened after the 2022 Preliminary Final loss to Geelong when Rayner seven disposals in the first half and had a negligible influence on game, prior to being subbed out injured.
