Burst out of the blocks and get smashed from then on, where have I heard that story again? Oh yeah, our first game of the season.

Five of the first six goals and we were sitting pretty half way through the opening quarter, before we took the foot off the pedal. The second quarter was poor but we stayed in touch. The onslaught came in the second half with the Hawks dominating almost the whole field en-route to a 29 point win that was looking even more ugly if not for a couple of Gumbies' junk time goals. NSWCROW and Dory_77 had a superb games with cats_09 continuing her very impressive rucking career.

The Old Boys are a higher-post numbers team. They do have a diverse crew so there should be someone to your pace or positing style. Let's go again and aim for as many match thread contributors as possible.

Ladder and next up:

No harder challenge in qootball currently than taking on the Ophidian side. However, we should be confident as we're the only team to have toppled the Old Boys in a final so we've got that over them. Being so early in the season, the ladder position volatility is high, but the key takeaway is we're already two games off the top-four...

Well that was an ugly match!

It didn't take the Old Boys long to build a huge lead which they maintained for a long while. We awoke from our slumber late in the third and had things close with a few minutes to play but alas left ourselves too much to do. The late comeback has avoided us finishing the round in last place. nobbyiscool played an outstanding game in the middle and DinoSoar played their best match of a short career off the half back line ala their current AFL idol.

Another loss so we're a long way off the pace. Luckily we have twelve games remaining in the home and away season.
There will be at least two changes this week- CatToTheFuture will be in the starting 18 as will Mop for reasons that will become clear in a subsequent post. The Demons are the opponent so will tag you in or let you know in the PM when the thread goes live.

This weekend against the Dees, Mop brings up 150 Sweet FA matches. Mop joined the club in season 35 after being lured back to the league via the signup thread. And, I think I speak on behalf of the whole club in saying we are stoked you chose the Gumbies and you have delivered plenty in your time here. In their first incarnation in the league, Mop played at the Wonders winning a premiership there, getting an all-sfa nod and was vice captain for a time.

Now, as we know from the PM, Mop is having some time away from Bigfooty to deal with much more important matters. So, we look forward to your return and making a fuss over you then. Here's to heaps more matches at the Gumbies!

Some Gumbies-specific stat moments from the past few rounds.

10000 Dreamteam Points:
In round three versus the Furies, GWS Goose became the fifth Gumbies player to that milestone.
Today versus the Demons, Barrybran joined Goose in the Gumbies' 10000 club.

Most frees for:
Today, GWS Goose was awarded eight frees for and in the process, now has broken peterss longstanding record of the most frees received by a Gumbies player. Considering how readily Goose ~~flops~~ receives frees, he looks set to amass an imposing total.

Hit outs:
Both Dory_77 and ossie_21 recorded the first hit outs of their careers. Other than beez, these two had the longest active Gumbies careers (by matches) to not record a hit out.

beez has now played an astonishing 146 matches in the double blue without a hitout. The next highest by a Season 37 Gumbies player is rye on 54 games. beez last recorded a hit out in season 23 and since then has won three premierships!

Awesome, we finally play four quarters!

We hit the road to take on the Demons, a team who we've had the wood over recently. And, so it continued, as we win all four quarters enroute to a huge 12 goal victory. Chat Pile, Barrybran, myself, GWS Goose and Dory_77 all scored multiple goals while the midfield racked up the stats led by Brick Loosener and beez. Our lead was so decisive that coach did some quirky things- moving me forward and ossie_21 to the ruck for two. Just when you thought the reining premiers couldn't get any better, we're adding extra skills to our CV's.

Up to seventh we go.

This was one of those oxymoron matches- a comfortable, close victory. The margin sat in single digits for much of the match, with the Gumbies predominantly in front. Standing up in each quarter, it's a performance to be proud of. The sim did a lot of magnet flipping with most players moved to a different third of the field. NSWCROW took advantage with a stunning performance in the middle while rye, who the sim let be, was fantastic at full forward slamming through eight. GWS Goose and Supercheapgiants both played resume-enhancing performances in multiple positions, in another showing of our clubs depth.

A first for the season, a loss on the road.

We arrived at the Golden Throne with plenty of optimism having returned to the eight on the back of two strong wins. Sadly, our run came to an end in this high scoring shootout in which we were competitive, but ultimately not nearly good enough in the last quarter when it mattered. GWS Goose is (finally

) finding some form having a very impressive game with CatToTheFuture, NSWCROW, Brick Loosener and ossie_21 all playing impressively. That's without mentioning Chat Pile who stood up with 5 goals and DinoSoar who scored their maiden goal in qooty.

Easter excellence, with absolutely no lightning.

After the Wonders started well, we took control of the clash mid way into the second quarter. It was still anyone's game according to the scoreboard at three quarter time, however there was no need for concern as we piled on 15 scoring shots in the last (although 5.10 could be better). Brick Loosener, beez, Dory_77 and NSWCROW had huge matches with Barrybran rediscovering his taste for goals with 5.4. Baz's goal tally was reminiscent of season 33/34 but this time around, no complaints about Dory getting in his way or stealing goals.

We're more hot and cold than a Katy Perry song right now.

Starting well, we were in front until mid way into the second quarter. From there though the Warriors burst away and won all remaining quarters to cruise to a four goal win. cats_09, ossie_21, Brick Loosener and Aucklander played impressive games with our milestone maestros- GWS Goose and beez playing very good games too. The sim did some weird things again and proved to be a hinderance- hopefully it has got the silliness out of its system.

This game is how I'd like to be described- a bot of wobble in the middle but otherwise not bad.

We whooshed out of the blocks this week with three goals in the opening six minutes, two of which were kicked by Barrybran. The ascendancy continued in the second quarter and we took a 21 point lead into half time. It seems we drank our own bathwater at the long break as it didn't take long for the Dragons to hit the front and hold it to the final change. Thankfully some stern words from qoach did the trick as we finished the game much stronger winning by 11 with clutch goals from Baz and Mop in the last quarter crucial. No one had a dismal game with each of ossie_21, Supercheapgiants, cats_09 and CatToTheFuture playing excellent games along with the Mop/Baz show up front.

To change pace with a bit of real life sad news, our teammate miggs has passed away. He has sadly been sick for a while now (which is why he hasn't been seen on Bigfooty for a bit) and recently lost his health battle. Playing 217 total matches, miggs played 53 matches here at the Gumbies over two stints. He is best known for his personality which was a mixture of sharp and cheeky, best described as memorable.

Hopefully those who loved him are doing ok. Cya miggs, may you rest in peace.

This is very sad news, he struck me as being quite young.

Back to back wins and into the four- very nice!

In a week of mixed emotions, we found the right level of emotion and made a strong start going into half time comfortably in front. Our dominance continued in the third quarter before we allowed the Roys to peg back the margin a touch in the last quarter. The winning margin though was enough to propel us into the top-four for the first time this season. We had a very good week of stats with 18 of the team scoring 30+ DT. Up forward Mop, Chat Pile and Barrybran were excellent, in the middle cats_09, Brick Loosener, CatToTheFuture, StFly and ossie_21 were in full command while the defence was wonderfully led by BlueE, bone2468 and NSWCROW.
