Two premiership points is better than no premiership points.

We hosted the second-placed Swamprats in a match of the round fixture that lived up to its name. The first quarter was an arm wrestle with the Swampies hitting quarter time with a 7 point lead. For the next two quarters, the Swamprats had the ascendancy but we were good enough to stay in touch. And in the last quarter, boy did we come back, with 4 of the last 5 goals of the match to equalise in the 23rd minute of the last which was the final score of the match. HotPiesWithSauce came off the bench and was clear BOG with 26 disposals and 3 goals. Other significant contributors include BlueE who was excellent at fullback, beez who topped 100 DT, GWS Goose with 21 disposals after being moved to the centre possie by the sim, NSWCROW off halfback with 20 touches and cats_09 continuing her immense season.

Chat Pile is 13th, Barrybran and rye equal 16th and Aucklander equal 19th for goals this season;
NSWCROW and ossie_21 look on track for a career best statistical season;
beez has the equal 7th most marks in the league;
beez has the 20th most dream team points, Brick Loosener 49th, GWS Goose 52nd and Dory_77 62nd most.

One step closer to locking in finals.

Off to Las Vegas we went seeking to continue our recent good form and knock off the Bears. Chat Pile got us off to a quick start with the opening goal before the quarter descended into an arm wrestle. The second quarter was where we made our move kicking five goals to one to head into half time 29 points in front. By the five minute mark of the third we'd extended our lead to 35 before one of our characteristic fades set in. The Bears banged on nine of the next eleven goals of the contest to be in front ten minutes into the last. Thankfully we came back to life and kicked the last three majors for an important win. Speaking of majors, Barrybran continued his form by kicking four to go with 16 disposals in a nice display. GWS Goose played a very nice game at ruck rover, with BlueE, Dory_77, Chat Pile and ossie_21 also prominent.

On Thursday, Dory_77 becomes the 25th Gumby to 100 Sweet FA games. Debuting in season 32 in the reign of Barrybran, Dory quickly established himself as a strong on field and posting presence at the Gumbies.

Starting their career as a centre half back, Dory finished their maiden season as a centre half forward in an early glimpse of the end of the field they do their best work. For the following two seasons Dory played forward pocket and some spice developed in their relationship with Barrybran who was playing full forward and seeking a Fred Medal. Dory was a very proficient operator and scored many more goals than Baz appreciated.

Season 36 saw Dory get the full forward position for themselves kicking 67 goals and finishing runner up in the Fred. Dory was clearly the second best full forward that season and was very unlucky imho to miss out on all-SFA selection (believe me, I advocated hard for your inclusion).

The last two seasons has seen Dory play a few positions as our captain is a recidivist team sheet fiddler

...Despite this, Dory has still thrived playing a mixture of midfield, half back and half forward roles. For the next two matches, Dory will return to the full forward position and show the comp how it's done.

As stated earlier, Dory is not just a good player but is also a fabulous presence around the club. There has rarely been a match thread without at least one Dory post and threads are all the better for his musings.

Dory thank you for your six seasons (and hopefully beyond) of contributing here at the Gumbies. Massive congrats on the milestone.

Can we blame the six day break?

So, the Thursday night experiment did not work in our favour as we went down to the Old Boys. The margin in the end probably flatters us as we were outplayed by the ladder leaders for much of the game. We got as far behind as 31 points in the third quarter before we jolted to life and kicked 5 consecutive majors to actually lead! However, that lead lasted just 42 seconds as the Old Boys again put a gap on the scoreboard that we couldn't overcome. Mop, beez, ossie_21 and HotPiesWithSauce were prolific in the midfield each pulling in bulk stats. Also important were cats_09 who won the ruck battle and Supercheapgiants was efficient turning each of their four kicks into goals (a career best tally). Not the milestone match we wanted for Dory_77 however there isn't long until we can play for redemption on Monday.

Losing twice to the Royals in the one season could turn a guy into a staunch republican...

Monday qooty was not what we wanted as we recorded consecutive losses for the first time since early in the season. The match was a close affair for the first three and half quarters with the lead changing hands a few times and the margin sitting in single digits. However, we finished awfully and copped a four goal loss. Brick Loosener had a fantastic day out and was by far our best. BlueE had an excellent day at fullback, while at the other end of the park, Supercheapgiants kicked three. Through the middle, bone2468, beez and Mop did their best in the circumstances. Five players scored 10 DT or less (myself included) so should be VERY fresh and ready to dominate next match.

It was just the pesky four goals the campaigner fluked. Twice as many as the next highest.

I can see SFA trying to replicate the big game's idea of fixtures. Played three times in 8 days and 13 days until the next.

This weekend, something (qooty) momentous will occur, one of the most significant figures of our club reaches 350 matches. Considering only one other has done it for the club and we've only had 634 matches overall, it's a freaking good achievement. As we know, StFly does not post in match threads very much but is always around in the PM and maintains an observant participant of the league. To be like this in your TWENTIETH season in the league is fantastico.

StFly the week of your 300th got hijacked by a Sweet FA Gumbies pile-on, while the match itself, all of us involved are desperately trying to forget it. Hopefully you get the week you deserve this time around. A one club player of 350 games is quite a special achievement, more so in your case as the club has had many struggles in your time and you have stepped up time and again to assist and lead us through.

Seemingly we're not allowed milestone match success anymore.

For the first time in a couple of seasons, we have recorded three consecutive losses with this one undoubtedly the worst in our streak. The match was never close, with the Dragons having double the scoring shots in the 58 point loss. Despite the belting, a few of us still had quite good matches. StFly in game 350 was huge with 113DT, GWS Goose (98 DT), beez (23 disposals) and rye (22 disposals, 2 goals) all stood up well forward of centre with NSWCROW (22 disposals) and myself (17 disposals) doing our best in the D50. While the match-up was a bit of a side-show, Blaze Storm did well against Barrybran. - 41m from 3 to 44.

Sad end on field to our season, however we should be super proud of what we're doing. Thank you for your contributions this season and let's only get better. The next season will begin late July and I'll roll out the b&f as an entrée to that.

Good evening you great and glorious Gumbies, welcome to our Catman Medal presentation. Tonight, we award the following awards:

The voting system for the Catman is the same as last season. Each round, there are five votes up for grabs on SIM/playing performance (5-4-3-2-1) with the three highest dreamteam performers guaranteed a vote and two 'captain's choice' picks. In addition there are votes for match thread participation- one vote for 1-4 posts, two votes for 5-14 posts and three votes for 15+ posts. Both the sim and posting votes are tallied with the player with the highest total of votes the winner.

We burst out of the blocks in our first match of season 36, jumping to a 5 goal lead in the second quarter putting to rest fears of a premiership hangover. Or did we? From there, we were dominated in all facets by the Bears who were fantastic running out big winners. rye did their job in their 50th with 3.2 from full forward with nobbyiscool and cats_09 also doing their best in the tough conditions. It was a struggle for the rest of us though- welcome to the sim DinoSoar!

From there, we kept the Furies at arms length on route to a nice victory. Most of us got solid to good stats from the sim and won our match ups, although Chat Pile can feel hard done by despite the good stats as he looked set for 11 goals before the sim benched him (and then returned him to the field in the back pocket!)

It didn't take the Old Boys long to build a huge lead which they maintained for a long while. We awoke from our slumber late in the third and had things close with a few minutes to play but alas left ourselves too much to do. The late comeback has avoided us finishing the round in last place. nobbyiscool played an outstanding game in the middle and DinoSoar played their best match of a short career off the half back line ala their current AFL idol.

We hit the road to take on the Demons, a team who we've had the wood over recently. And, so it continued, as we win all four quarters enroute to a huge 12 goal victory. Chat Pile, Barrybran, myself, GWS Goose and Dory_77 all scored multiple goals while the midfield racked up the stats led by Brick Loosener and beez. Our lead was so decisive that coach did some quirky things- moving me forward and ossie_21 to the ruck for two. Just when you thought the reining premiers couldn't get any better, we're adding extra skills to our CV's.

This was one of those oxymoron matches- a comfortable, close victory. The margin sat in single digits for much of the match, with the Gumbies predominantly in front. Standing up in each quarter, it's a performance to be proud of. The sim did a lot of magnet flipping with most players moved to a different third of the field. NSWCROW took advantage with a stunning performance in the middle while rye, who the sim let be, was fantastic at full forward slamming through eight. GWS Goose and Supercheapgiants both played resume-enhancing performances in multiple positions, in another showing of our clubs depth.

We arrived at the Golden Throne with plenty of optimism having returned to the eight on the back of two strong wins. Sadly, our run came to an end in this high scoring shootout in which we were competitive, but ultimately not nearly good enough in the last quarter when it mattered. GWS Goose is (finally

) finding some form having a very impressive game with CatToTheFuture, NSWCROW, Brick Loosener and ossie_21 all playing impressively. That's without mentioning Chat Pile who stood up with 5 goals and DinoSoar who scored their maiden goal in qooty.

After the Wonders started well, we took control of the clash mid way into the second quarter. It was still anyone's game according to the scoreboard at three quarter time, however there was no need for concern as we piled on 15 scoring shots in the last (although 5.10 could be better). Brick Loosener, beez, Dory_77 and NSWCROW had huge matches with Barrybran rediscovering his taste for goals with 5.4. Baz's goal tally was reminiscent of season 33/34 but this time around, no complaints about Dory getting in his way or stealing goals.

Starting well, we were in front until mid way into the second quarter. From there though the Warriors burst away and won all remaining quarters to cruise to a four goal win. cats_09, ossie_21, Brick Loosener and Aucklander played impressive games with our milestone maestros- GWS Goose and beez playing very good games too. The sim did some weird things again and proved to be a hinderance- hopefully it has got the silliness out of its system.

We whooshed out of the blocks this week with three goals in the opening six minutes, two of which were kicked by Barrybran. The ascendancy continued in the second quarter and we took a 21 point lead into half time. It seems we drank our own bathwater at the long break as it didn't take long for the Dragons to hit the front and hold it to the final change. Thankfully some stern words from qoach did the trick as we finished the game much stronger winning by 11 with clutch goals from Baz and Mop in the last quarter crucial. No one had a dismal game with each of ossie_21, Supercheapgiants, cats_09 and CatToTheFuture playing excellent games along with the Mop/Baz show up front.
