Gumby to Freo

had back surgery when everyone else was doing pre-season.
Rehab and strength work for the early part of the year, we were very cautious and gave him a month or so in the vfl to find a bit of touch, he could have come back a week earlier than he did (everyone on here was screaming for it) but yeah, we were just a bit cautious. For me, gumby picks himself when fit, not even a question.

So you mean he could have come back a whole week earlier?

Dress is how you want. Gumby is a risk. there are hundreds of differences between Mora and Gumby but the two major one's are 1) Gumby is out of contract and may want to move and 2) Mora is contracted.

The comparison is pretty useless really.

If Dawes is possibly worth a very late first/ an early second then Gumby would be worth a late second.
Dawes is a) contracted; Gumby isn't
Dawes is b) an equal performer to Gumby
Dawes is c) a lot less injury prone

So (late second) Freo pick 37 for Gumby. Deal done. Lets get one with trade week. Anything else would be overs.

What did you get Gunston for - pick 24 and a few downgraded picks in the third and fourth rounds. Mate Gumby, Tippett and Dawes are worth a lot more than Spudston, who's efforts may have cost you a flag.
But at the end of the day this doesn't really concern you so why are you here?

Gunston kicked 40 goals for the season. What's your point?

Not much point getting Goddard "for free" if it forces others out. Doesn't impress me at all.

I want us to keep an Essendon player. Who happens to be our highest draft pick ever and, if Hurley is switched to defence, becomes pretty damn vital to our structure. Not an unreasonable stance, I'd argue.

Your club wanted him.
You still have Danahir (albeit it may not be this year), Crameri and Ryder. If need be, Hurley can go forward in case of injury as you still have Fletcher for at least one more year and you have good talls down back already.

I did study accounting. I think they call it creative accounting. :)
Gumby does have a longer history of injury though doesn't he?

he would, unless mora's injuries extend pack to his junior days.

My biggest issue is that this latest bout of surgery is meant to have fixed his back problems (undiscovered scar tissue) which have cause his hammie problems, so I'd want to give it another year at least to see if he is indeed fixed as our doctors have claimed. If he has a full pre season and plays 22 games and does shit all, then i'd be prepared to cut our losses, but as it stands, he hasn't had a proper go at it yet.

No they don't. Maybe a little quad stuff IIRC.

And I don't blame you. It may work out that way, he may choose to stay. Otherwise you will have to put up the cash and the years to risk it. Otherwise we will.

High and mighty as opposed to Fremantle supporters acting pompous and arrogant... All different shades of shit.

The supporters obviously don't want him to go. If he does we don't want to get rogered with a pick we won't even use.

Most opposition supporters seem agree that his worth is nowhere near what you guys claim it to be. It's not our fault that he's worth nothing of use to you.

Most opposition supporters thought Jobe Watson was never going to become anything.

This is an incredibilly long thread for a player that hasn't asked to be traded and whose club doesn't want him to go

Haha, and if you can be bothered going back to the start of the thread you can see that it has done a full circle..... About three times. Insightful posts are few and far between now - and will be until he puts pen to paper.

Well done. Completely relevant to the thread. But neutral observers are always going to have more accurate opinions.

Not relevant... then the very next sentence you contradict yourself with an absolute qualifier. Neutral observers are not always more accurate, I just provided you with one occasion where opposition supporters were not slightly off the point but incredibly far from it. There are very few neutral observers when it comes to Essendon.

That wans't a neutral situation and is actually a stupid point because Kevin Sheedy didn't think he would make it. You are biased, I am biased but other clubs supporters aren't and they think he is worth a late pick in the draft. End discussion.

Agree - supporters have emotional attachment to a player and over rate their worth - just because they have Gumby's number on their back and his rookie badge does not push the price up at the trade table.

"We have invested 6 years - we should keep him" and potentially invest another 6 years with little to get back from in. Sometime you need to cut your losses.

"He owes us - must show loyalty" - you are in the wrong business if you believe this - this is fantasy stuff. He owes the club zero. Clubs cut players and trade them - loyalty is a myth. See Goodard.

"He was pick 2 - potential is massive" - Richard Lounder, Anthony Banick, Richard Tambling, Kosi, Aaron Fiora and Beau Dowler all say hi.

"He should take the 1 year - have a big year and then get a decent contract" - again fantasy land - if he gets offered 3 he should take the guaranteed money and length of contract.

"He was good in the 2nd half of the year" - no he was not - 1 good game in a flogging. He was dropped twice and subbed once in 6 games. 24 marks in 6 games is a ruck rovers return.

Pick 40 - at best.

the rest of the post is meh, but the bolded is complete crap. Had his hand trodden and had a fracture which he played with for a week, and then rested with soreness the next week (give the man a break he's made of cardboard ffs) and then copped a cork against the tigers which kept him out against the pies.

So can you explain how he "showed good signs" in 2012? I have him down for 1 good game. If that is good signs then so be it.

Did not know about his broken hand - does Gumby?

His other games were just brilliant examples of the Drew Petrie inspired "decoy role"

I did find this on BomberBlitz. It is the only reference on google for his badly broken hand.

I was just speaking to my Dad and he told me he heard Gumbleton may have a fractured hand after last nights game? Someone stood on it?

Anyway else heard this too or is it BS?

Well I for one believe. Dad's don't lie. Ever.

that's called having your cake & eating it.
of course you'd like that.
if Gumby gets a longer contract he'd be mad not 2 accept it
