GWS - inability to land players

GWS aren't the only trade option open to Shaw/Pie.

Yep that's true Geelong was another rumored destination.

Clubs who are in a premiership window simply don't give up quality like Shaw with 2 years left on his contract, with all the cultural talk Buckley was saying Shaw wont be back probably why GWS aren't budging.

Pies will blink first imo.

lol @ gws playing hardball on Shaw - he's contracted for the next two years at Collingwood. I get the impression that they're being run by a bunch of rookies with no clue. This could be a massive disaster for the AFL

GWS are being run by Gubby Allen who as football manager won 4 premierships with Leigh Matthews including one at Collingwood. Considering Rodney Eade has been a football manager for 2 months, and Gubby Allen for 25 years, you might be onto something.

Eade is in Ireland coaching the International Team.

Believe Derek Hine has taken on the role as list manger & Matthew Rendell is their recruiting manager.

well seeing as we've traded away any realistic pick we'd use to get him the only way we're blinking first is if we throw in a player. And good luck finding anyone else on our list willing to go live in blacktown. You got lucky with Shaw because he was to stupid to know what he was getting into. Everyone else has a pretty good idea how much of a fiasco GWS is turning out to be which is why you've been humiliated a few times now, most notably with Buddy. The only think more laughable than Buddy knocking back his huge deal are some of the ridiculous contracts being handed out to just average players like Ward and Scully. It's a complete circus up there. The biggest incentive for us to get the deal sewn up is in case Shaw manages to realise how stupid going to blacktown would be.

Gubby's ego/emotions must be getting in the way if he is letting the Shaw trade fall though. Shaw is a massive get for GWS on so many levels. Surely Gubby's head will be on the chopping block if the swap for Adams doesn't happen.

Like Dom Tyson and Taylor Adams who have finished their 2 year contracts and walked straight out? Keep bringing in top-10 players and replacing them with top-10 players on a revolving basis and the Giants will get nowhere.

Has GWS turned over more players than other sides?

The Lions are looking at six players wanting out at once.

As GWS gets closer to making and playing finals they will find it easier to attract and retain players.

With the number of young low drafts picks some were always going to move on it was expected.

It seems that mature players are hired as much to coach the youngsters as what they are to actually play in games. Maybe they're doing overtime after their own training. There are a few who dont mind going to a place where no one knows you , but I've got a feeling that most players are happier to play in cities that have a football culture

They have Shaw wanting to play for them so no inability there to land players....unless they stuff it up at the trade table.

I love how Pie fans say the Giants are stuffing it up. Considering what we are reading BOTH clubs are being very hard headed in what they want (which is fair enough).

Would be humiliating for the Giants if the deal fell through after all the chest beating about signing Shaw.

They have signed Shaw up on a long term big money contract...so that means they rate him highly. Shaw for an unproven second year player is a very fair deal.

Shaw's worth $700,000 for five years and agreed to sign with GWS. Collingwood will do everything possible to facilitate a trade for Shaw.

GWS are kidding themselves if they want a sweetener, that we now don't have, for a 30 game $400,000 player.

There is something wrong with their reasoning.

Why would they make such a public announcement without first inquiring about whether it is possible.

Collingwood have picked up pick 6. Taylor Adams is a fair swap for Shaw.

It's a win/win or a PR disaster for GWS.

No it wouldn't, the only ones seem to be throwing around the insults etc are the pies fans. If it falls through, fine, we trade Adams to someone else. Not the 1st time a club has jumped the gun and wont be the last.

Theres more of us.

Which is exactly the point I was making about why you need high profile players at the club and how you cant afford to let this one go pearshaped.

true theres more but 100 year headstart remember, but even so we seem less worried about it going up than you guys. Now I seriously doubt you worried about our little club so it must be that you guys really want adams and really want rid of shaw.

Personally I'm indifferent, I'd love to keep Shaw and am worried trading him is a mistake. But yeah its true the club wants Adams and wants to trade Shaw. I dont think anybody is arguing that point. The only case in point is the trade value.

And Shaw despite his unique personality is worth way more than Adams given his proven track record. The only thing in Adams favour is his age and that squares the ledger.
