GWS - inability to land players

I think most interstate teams would probably have to 'overpay' to a degree nearly any player to uproot from their home state. Maybe if they had the come home factor or the player was looking for more opportunities but if that player was already playing regularly, it would likely take a sizable offer to try and entice them.

Still think GWS are playing this well. They have abundance of upside in the entirety of their list and can afford to take on a few champion veterans to instill some leadership qualities.

We were all extremely pessimistic about GC after an ordinary season last year, but they really came on this year. Expect GWS to do the same, driven by there own development.

If they can snare a Shaw or even Chapman to compliment Mumford then I think they would be satisfied. Scully, Ward and Davis will be primed for this coming year.

GWS just signed Josh Hunt.

Apparently Bernie Vince chose Melbourne over GWS and we all know about Buddy choosing Sydney over GWS.

Very much looks like previous years when they could only net players considered surplus to needs at their previous clubs.

Mumford and Shaw would have been in demand at a large number of clubs. As each year passes GWS will find it slightly less hard to attract and retain talent. Its part of the reason they justifyably need a higher salary cap. In fact it is the reason.

Gws will get there. I'm expecting a big improvement from them this year. Once players can start to see that they are heading in the right direction, the recruits will come.

Was about to post the exact same thing.

When all the young low draft pick's start to peak from two years ago GWS will moving into the top 8.

Remember they now have picks 1 and 2 which should mean Boyd and the best rated mid in the draft.

After they play their first final we will see the top level free agents be more than willing to jump on board. I'm predicting 2017.

They will have issues keeping their list together given the same age demographic and salary cap pressures that brings. FA promotes paying overs, they simply won't have that space.

Every time they lose a good kid they get compensation at the trade table, look at what they did for the last two seasons. If every season they trade a player and a pick for a top 5 pick plus retain their first rounder they will bring in two guns on $120k per year for two years and have plenty of space.

GWS will end up with two top 10 picks every year for the next 2 years to come IMO.

lol @ gws playing hardball on Shaw - he's contracted for the next two years at Collingwood. I get the impression that they're being run by a bunch of rookies with no clue. This could be a massive disaster for the AFL

How so? GWS know he is being forced out the door by Collingwood, think it would be more of a disaster if he stayed at the Pies.

Like Dom Tyson and Taylor Adams who have finished their 2 year contracts and walked straight out? Keep bringing in top-10 players and replacing them with top-10 players on a revolving basis and the Giants will get nowhere.
