GWS - inability to land players

GWS need shaw desperately. He is a good player and a change of scenery would be good for him. If they put 700k on his head it seems pretty wierd that they think and straight swap isn't fair.

Hardly. We would like him as to what he adds to the team, but we aren't desperate for him.

If it to turns out to be a straight swap then well and good. If the Giants believe they should get some knives as well then fine. As ive stated before it seems that pies fans are more worried about this than the Giants.

gws have the right to ask for something more after all can't shaw just walk into the psd and collingwood receive jack shit, no one else will pay 700 k a year for him and can't see him walking back into collingwood if a trade does not get done

No, shaw is contracted and Adams is uncontracted.

This has been mentioned so many times...

No, Shaw is contracted. PSD is not an option.

Adams on the other hand.....

Problem is GWS can't actually accept a "sweetneer". With 4 picks in the top-22 and no need for many more than 4 picks throwing in a late round pick has no appeal. The only thing the Giants can actually get value from is somehow moving pick 21 or 22 up the order. In the same way that is hard to buy presents for someone who has everything - it is also hard to trade with someone who has more than they can use.

No you need him on two levels.

First you're a long way off where GC was this time last year and need more senior players to come in to avoid being embarrassingly uncompetitive in 2014.

Second, you need him to prove to the rest of the competition that you can land your targets avoiding another league embarrassment that we saw with Franklin.

Collingwood need Adams a lot less - they are the biggest club in the country, consistently playing deep into finals, plenty of good young talent. The pies have nothing to prove. Adams would be good but we're not about to be powerplayed by a league minnow who relies on AFL and league charity to stand on their own two feet.

We all know the deal will be done on Collingwood's terms. GWS should just hurry up and stop wasting the time of more significant clubs. The longer they hold out on this deal the greater their embarrassment will be if things don't go their way.

We havent got a sweetener to give anyway. As it stands we have picks 6 10 and 60 something.

And that's why. You Pies think that you are the comp. All clubs are part of it and are just as important.

Wether we get Shaw or not will not make that larger impact on how we are building. We are building to something special, and so far we are happy with the way its going. Wether we get Shaw or not will not be an embarrassment. The only ones that are worried are Pies fans. So that begs the question why? I doubt its worry for our poor minnow club...

Inferiority complexes will get you nowhere....some bait was thrown out and you took it. This is not about the Giants. Nobody is trying to rip anybody off. If Taylor Adams was at Hawthorn we'd still have the same negotiating position.

Even Sam Fisher has knocked GWS back.
Yep it's clearly a huge problem convincing players to go up there. I wouldn't be surprised at all to see a pretty massive player exodus from GWS in the coming seasons given the way things are playing out. Gold Coast have proven to be much better organised and run imo.

Fair enough, but it doesn't mean because the Giants are negotiating differently that we are in the wrong or its an embarrassment.
Whether is spelled with an h. .

Really....

You mean like the last 2 years how all our players have requested to leave? Oh wait, they haven't...

Other clubs dont announce they have signed a player before the deal is struck. It is different for the Giants because as a new club ite been a struiggle attracting players. Now they attracted one it seems they are trying to play hardball. Its a total nonsense.

What's embarrassing is obviously getting played by Franklin and his manager as a foil for him to go to your cross town rivals because he perceives them as a better option despite being paid less (per annum). Embarrassing is your club announcing terms of deals with players before a trade is actually done, which whether you like it or not means that the public perception will be that you threw the cash at Shaw, and still didn't manage to get a deal done to secure him at your club.

Despite what actually happens, the public perception is that you guys can't land players and that is not good for a fledgling team trying to build a supporter base and win over the public.

Mate your attitude is a real worry. I live in the GWS area and I know first hand how much of an laughing stock the club is becoming. Sheedy was a flop, Gubby's turning out to be a flop and Leon Cameron has "untried spud coach" written all over him. Whether you know it or not GWS IS desperate for Shaw. GWS need success immediately this year and Heath Shaw is exactly the kind of player that will help win matches for the club. Bargaining for "steak knives"???? You're kidding yourself.

Not really, I have faith in what we are building. I'd be lying if the stories of his behaviour off field isn't a worry as we are a very young club (both the club and players) as such his experience and skill may be kinda 2 steps forward one back for the club. We are in need of competitiveness. With or without Shaw I believe it will be there soon.
The main problem is everyone puts us against the Wanderers. Now well done to them for their early success, but they were built to be straight off because the FFA couldn't afford for them not to be. Lets remember that before their 11 game winning streak they were avging 7k (incl 1 derby game) which is lower than the Giants in a supposed heartland of the game. We will get there it will just take a bit longer. Rome wasn't built in a day.

BTW I hope you and your family are safe up there. We are covered in smoke and ash down here in Cranebrook. Have family in Springwood and its shocking what is happening.

Cheers! I had to go to a job down in Yellow Rock this morning and I was not prepared for the scene of utter devastation. Countless houses burned to the ground.....certainly puts Bigfooty into perspective.

What dribble. We have had no players knock us back. The Swans offered more than what we were prepared to offer so we pulled out of the race. That's hardly a smackdown on the club or location.

I think GWS have done pretty well so far, although 2013 was not a great step forward. They have correctly infused mature proven players such as Cornes, Brogan, Davis and focused on building from the bottom up. Don't think it will be long before this strategy is rewarded in performance.

The bigger issue for GWS is off field and attracting people to the game. Frankly it's embarassing to see the crowd numbers when compared with what a Wanderers game attracts and longer term it will be difficult to retain sponsorship and interest if this momentum doesn't change. I know it's early in relative terms, but this would be giving the AFL nightmares at the moment, regardless of their public rhetoric.

Fires went right through my sisters and cousins places in springwood. Amazing that it missed their houses.

We all follow the greatest game in the world. Only our colours differ.

The Wanderers success is amazing.

I don't follow soccer closely but their crowd yesterday was amazing.

I wouldn't put it past them to become more popular than the Swans.
