Toast "Hammer" Close to signing a new 3 year deal at the Blues!

There doesnt appear to have been an official announcment on the CFC website, but according to an article today in The Age by Sam Lane, Hammer has signed for three years.

"The Blues have re-signed athletic tall Shaun Hampson, unable to crack the seniors since round 13 and believed to be of interest to Richmond and St Kilda, for a further three years". Great news!

Sam should have pointed out that Shaun sustained an 8 week injury in round 13 and was in career best form at the time.
From his letter to the members Ratt clearly has things in mind for the big fella.

"In looking ahead, there's enormous improvement to come from the likes of Chris Yarran, Mitch Robinson and Lachie Henderson. Shaun Hampson is another, and Matthew Kreuzer has got a full year in after rupturing an ACL, while there's also further upside in Marc Murphy and Chris Judd"

Not sure how much upside there can be in Judd or Murphy.

Hampson was fit to play. Just wasn't selected.
Instead Ratten and the MC went with Davies, who not only didn't get near the ball all night but gave away a free kick and goal without a centre bounce...

Only half right. Hampson was fit to play, but he wasnt fit to ruck. PCL injury means he couldnt jump but could stand in the goalsquare. MC didnt want to replace Setanta with Hammer as Hammer could not have helped Robbie much. As for replacing a shorter player with Hammer - do you take a bloke who cant jump into a final?? Dont think so

Any news on other signings? Lucas for instance?

Fantastic to see his commitment to the club...he could have every reason to have left for more game time.
Looking forward to seeing what the big guy can do next year.

Good news as we feared maybe he would move to GWS and we would receive little in return, with Warnock's improvement this season particuarly his outstanding finals performances and with Kruezer back in good health next season he still faces a uphill battle to cement a permanent role in this team.

Re. Hampson:
Congratulations and great news for the club and the Hampster himself.
I'm glad we didn't trade away all the work and patience put into the big man.
3 years is a terrific result for Hampson and his best years are well and truly in front of him. :thumbsu:

Re. Kreuzer:
I just hope that this decision wasn't prompted by knowledge of something not being quite right with our best big man.
Just a little bit worried, right now.

My thoughts exactly. I just hope MK is right to go, has a good pre-season and comes out in 2012 and dominates like we all know he can.

Hampson signing is great news and gives us an alternative should injury occur, but for me I'd still have a fit Warnock and Kruezer ahead of Hammer.

Can we play Warnock, Kruezer and Hampson all in the same side?

Yeah great to hear the Hammer has signed on. Hopefully he can live up to his potential.Re. Kreuzer- Hmmmm thats one of the things I first thought too. Maybe there is something more to this mysterious foot injury and the club isnt letting on, and they signed Hammer for a bit of insurance. Really hope this is not the case though, and they just have Hampson in their plans anyway.

This thread was started 24th of August

Kreuzers foot problem occured on the 3rd of September

So Carlton knew Kreuzer was going to suffer his mystery foot injury almost 2 weeks before it happened, so they offered Hampson a 3 yr deal as insurance ???

Talk about 1 + 1 = 154895521354987

So what if this thread was started on the 24th August, it is speculative thread. Im sure we can find speculation about him being traded back in August aswell. Things can change, perhaps the club was looking to trade him and changed their mind (because of something more with Kreuzer). Perhaps he wanted to be traded and changed his mind? Maybe he was going to sign a 3 year deal all along and there is nothing wrong with Kreuzer? Im just looking at the possibilities thats all

Still waiting to hear it from the club. Once I do I will smoke a big cigar because I would hate to see Hammer blossom elsewhere. Warnock is improving a million miles an hour, Kreuzer is Kreuzer but after that we don't have a young ruckman doing an apprenticeship in the 2s so Hammer is very important.

Warnock rucking the majority of the season might just burn him out. So I wouldn't mind seeing him rested throughout the year. Setanta as back up in the centre bounces isn't all that great, especially in the finals as evident against WC, do love his presence up front though.

A speculative thread IN RESPONSE TO AN ARTICLE WRITTIN ON THE 23RD AUGUST 2011, FOR THE CFC WEBSITE. In the article it states

Of further good news for Hampson and Carlton is that the big bloke from Mt Gravatt is close to finalizing terms of a new three-year contract binding him to the Blues.

1 month later, he is signed on a 3 yr contract :eek::eek:

The contract size was stated BEFORE the Kreuzer injury occured, and it isn't like they said he was going to sign a 2 year contract extension and then got 3 ............

As I said, the contract size was already hinted to before Kreuzer got his mystery foot problem, and it hasn't changed. I don't know why people are trying to make a link between the 2. The reason he is important for the club is, as this year has shown, big men get injured and you need quality back-up.

Plus he could develop into the KPF we require, or his trade value increase to a suitable level over the next year or 2 and we get a decent trade for him. There are real reasons why Hampson would be signed on for a 3 yr contract, so I don't know why people are trying to find speculative reasons to explain it .......
