Firstly, the "No Kane Cornes" Rule is back

Agree.

But we do have several players vying for a similar role, and with Morris looking like a good defender he now has another competitor.

It will be interesting to see whether he can get back into the side and displace someone like Morrison.
Got to give to get but I agree a 3rd rounder not enough if it could be converted inside 30 somehow then I think we should do it. Dons second round for our third back and maybe some pick swaps?
Starting backline 2023 for me must have tank and dimma as smalls cj and scrim as hbf leaving blanck and Sicily then DGB and day on bench (day hbf or wing). I haven’t liked brambles attack on the ball when he’s needed to go and that’s why I’m ok to part with him as we are stacked in defence (haven’t even raised frost or jeka for example).

I think we should be looking at Grundy. At his peak he was averaging 6 clearances per game. We seriously could use this right now. That along with the pure ruck talent is massive.

Moreover, if we choose to swallow more of that salary, Collingwood should really be gifting us with their first rounder in a pick swap.

Hypotheically, something like:

HAW GET: Grundy (absorb $1.1m of the contract a year) + Coll 1st 2022
COLL GET: Haw 3rd 2022 + Haw 2nd 2023

Would be a big reliever for the Pies whilst we have the cap space to use

He is a training machine. If anything he needs to cut back to strike the best balance. He’s been putting in extra work on video reviews with our young mids since his injury and doing a lot of extra charity work as well.
This was off the track

Not sure pies do that, but I like the thinking

More likely we take most of his salary and throw them a 3rd rounder.

I hope we’re seriously considering Tanner Bruhn.

Young, talented and will fit into our midfield rotation perfectly.

Really hasn’t shown much of anything this year aside from against North.

I wouldn’t want to part with the capital required to get him.

Wouldn't entertain Grundy unless the pies are giving up some sweet assets also.

Doesn't give you much contested marking for a supposed elite ruckman, not that effective playing in a secondary role such as swinging forward/back. Not to mention injury worries. He's also 28 years old already. Mcevoy was recruited to hawthorn when he was 24 for comparison.

Absolutely 0 reason to give up anything of value for Grundy at this point, as harsh as that may sound.

Agree - wouldn’t want to give up an excessive amount of capital.

But if GWS are desperate to free up some cap space, then we can take advantage of that. Especially if Bruhn is desperate to return to Victoria and makes his feelings known to GWS.

probably cost a first rounder and i am not sure he would go in the top 10 this year. We would need to obtain a late first to be serious player for a young talent as a trade. Either that or next years 1st with something coming back. Can't see it at this stage of our rebuild TBH. I reckon we go best young talent in the draft for the next two years, plus FA's and depth players at around 3rd round+

Isn't there a bit about Bruhn doesn't want to be at GWS?

Out of contract.

Hasn't really increased his value from pick 12 in 2020.

Essendon sent pick 29 and a future second to Giants for pick 44, 74 and Caldwell (who they had a five year deal in front of such was how he was rated).

Feel he'd be gettable at a pick around 28-33 personally.

I wouldn't want to give up our current second for him given we drafted MacDonald and Butler around these picks last year.

Plenty of trepidation paying too much for unknown young giants, plenty of misses with this. Notably O'Rourke for us, and the countless Blues examples.
