Clubs do not push players through the PSD, this gets brought up in every draft thread ever yet almost never eventuates

Essendon were basically openly threatening to do it with Jaeger in 2016. There are some lost managers who don’t care to play clean - Cripps at Port and the Dodo are prime examples.

Dodo is always the exception to just about every rule to be fair

Oh absolutely - but Cripps is an absolute campaigner too. I get that the majority of sides play fair - but for some clubs the PSD is no joke.

Agreed but how many of those guys would've been on 1m per season? It's worth keeping in mind that at some point in time this endless treasure chest of salary cap space we have will be empty and it's worth noting that we'll eventually have to pay our good young up and coming guys (Newcombe, Day etc). It doesn't take long for a teams salary cap to end up like Collingwood's or GWS's. The last thing we wan't to do is handcuff ourselves in the not too distant future so we can't bid for a really good free agent to push us over the top. I just don't feel that Grundy does that.
I agree with all of what you’ve said. Just saying that if we aren’t someone’s first choice as long as they arrive and buy in I’m all for it.
(I’d also be saving money for Ward and McDonald after watching their dedication at training).

Richmond have got to be interested in TOM if they miss on Taranto.
Maybe. But we still get accused of “topping up with older players” when we signed a 24 year old Tom a couple years after our flag era, I don’t know what their strategy is if they are signing the 29yo version. I personally think they should do a bit of a mini-rebuild, but I’d be thrilled if they offered up something decent for him.

Please do not undervalue Tom Mitchell, he is an elite mid fielder unfortunately part of a poor team. He just knows how to get the footy. We must not trade him unless we receive full market value. Lets not kid ourselves, he will be a star at Collingwood, Brisbane or Geelong. We should request those teams 1st round pick.

He’s also been played out of his best position for nearly two years. We’ve definitely not been trying to inflate his value.

I’m sure we’ve had a number of players where we weren’t first choice.
As long as they rock up day one invested and put in I couldn’t care less.
As much as I’d like Grundy think we have moved past him, more likely a goal kicking 2nd ruck to compliment Ned. Not impossible but be a massive u turn on our behalf to see Grundy a hawk.

Good. Getting trade value out of one player shouldn’t be the aim of our coaching staff and match committee.

Pretty much every Collingwood midfielder plays forward too.

Playing Tom “out of position” by giving him a role at HF for 1/3 - 1/2 a game would actually make him more attractive to McRae now he’s……doing what McRae is making his midfielders do. 🤷‍♂️

Tom didn’t really play the amount of time as a forward this year that you’re suggesting here though. Most games he spent more time in the defensive end of the ground, some game significantly so.
