Hawks chasing Rance/Gibson/Lake

Interesting considering he was rated as a top 10 pick by many in his draft year, and you guys have SFA in terms of KPD.

Well that time has now passed, its not the draft anymore......he ain't worth pick 9. I'd be flabbergasted if we used pick 9 on a player who struggles to hit a target.

Rance wont be going anywhere.. This is just pure gossip/speculation. Expect him to sign up with the Tigers in the next couple of weeks. Furthermore, the trade would never get across the line, as he would be valued at about a pick 12-14 and with the Hawks having 9 and 25, they would have to offer 25 and a player.. Cant see it happening.

Gibson for pick 9 could be win-win.

We actually have a surplus of defenders now with S Thompson, Grima and Hansen.

Considering you guys need a key back and we need some more young talent, I can see the merit in this.

Thoughts?

I wrote this on the Richmond forum for what it's worth ...

I don't want to lose Pick 9 or Dowler, so I doubt the deal would get done.

But what happens if the Hawks offered Dowler and Thorp (Our 2 backup forwards) for Rance and Moore.

Swapping forwards and backs.

Dowler > Rance (so far)
Moore > Thorp (so far)

If they all realise their potential then you guys win, but if they all at least become very good players, we all win.

I hope we don't lose Dowler or Pick 9, but it wouldn't surprise me if both Clarko and Hardwick did something like this, as they both wouldn't mind losing a little to help the other one, if that makes sense.

We need backs, you need forwards, and Clarko and Hardwick might deal between themselves in a way that they wouldn't with anyone else.

He doesn't struggle to hit a target. He does struggle a bit with his disposal (and everything else) when played as a tagger, as he is run off his feet and trying to dodge midfielders half the size of him, as most full backs would.

That said, he's probably not worth pick 9, more around 13-15, but he is still better than the KPDs you could pick up with your pick.

See now there is a trade that sounds a bit more realistic. Any chance the Tigers would want Morton/Tuck, seeing as they already have one of the brothers over there

Agree. Rance + 18 for 9 and 25 sounds correct weight.

I'd hope we'd consider Morton on the cheap, but wouldn't go near Tuck, which is strange because it seems Tuck gets more opportunity. Has Morton been injured or just stuck at Box Hill?

While not elite, his kicking is not generally the problem, it's his decision making. He should always go the first option.

Our recruiters at the time of the draft rated Thorp highly.
Would not be surprised if his name comes up to seal the deal.

I get the impression watching Morton he is very laconical (seems like a family trait) and maybe that might mean his work ethic and toughness are being questioned. Honestly though I'm not sure he has found a role in the team as either a tall half foward or as a wingman.

You don't know that, plenty of gems through draft and we will have every opportunity to snag one.

Don't try to pull wool over our eyes, I have watched him quite closely........... You know quite well he struggles with his feet, now he is a very fit and competitive player his aerobic capacity is not an issue. I do rate him though and he does have potential, but not pick 9 worthy.

Bloody hell, Jarryd Morton is still only 20!?!? With what I've seen and the fact he's only 20 I'd be interested, but he'd be pretty pricey and being unable to break into such an injury hit side is a minor worry.

He's got great athletic abilities, he's just not built for the midfield (there aren't many KPPs that are). I'm not trying to pull the wool over your eyes (it's not like the actual trade is being done here) but the majority of his kicking woes are due to being played out of position. He's a KPD, but he hasn't played as one in a game yet, and the games his kicking has looked good is when he is given a little bit more time in the back 50 to think things through and keep his composure, instead of running out as a HBF or a midfielder.

Of course there are plenty of gems to be uncovered, but it's always a gamble, and on exposed form Rance is better than the defenders in this draft.

Not sure Rance or Gibson are worth pick 9. Gibson would be the best out of them 2. Maybe they should throw in Wells for pick 9 + someone. Rance can't kick.

Rance - don't rate! Besides, he is more of a HBF rather than genuine KPP...and we have Birchall to play that role. We are more inclined to go for Drum rather than Rance.

Gibson - good player and I rate him, but, he is definitely NOT the type of player we need.

Lake - would definitely want him, but I think the asking price will be overly-inflated due to media hype, interest from other clubs, the fact that its world-wide knowledge that we are in desperate need of a KPD, etc etc

Where do I sign? :p

At least with Laidley gone I can sleep in peace knowing there wont be anymore horror trades... I hope.

Don't know if Gibbo is worth pick 9.

In last year's draft he would be lucky to be a second round pick. The talent isn't that deep in this draft, in terms of stand-outs. Most of the rated players have pretty significant deficiencies this year. Lets just say i don't expect a Ziebell to drop at pick 9.

I wouldn't mind us looking at a few second or third round picks if we move on someone like Hale to another club, I think it will be similar to the 06 draft in which we picked up Swallow. I think there will be good players to come from the draft but with so few standouts I think there will be a lot of guess work involved.,

Like how Gibson goes about things but he's another smallish KPD and we have enough of those.
Rance is interesting but Chaplin from the Power gets more appealing by the day imo. We would have to give up too much to get Lake from the dogs but then again not even sure if Port are serious about trading or just saying people are available to prove a point and show that Choco is still boss.
We should swing for the fences and try first for Lake then, 2 Chaplin, 3 Frawley/ Warnok then failing those Rance or Gibson.
You'd have to think with 9 & 25 in play we can get something big done....

Hansen for pick 25 and a player maybe?

Looks a bit lost this year... change of venue might help him.

I think Rance still has an enormous upside. He's only had 2 seasons under his belt.
Is down the pecking order for a KP role at the tigers so he'll struggle again next year playing out of position.
If we can grab him, we'll settle him at CHB where he's more comfortable and we can then use him and Shoey as our CHB's for the future.

It's one option?

Are we chasing those three specifically, or are recruiters doing their jobs and talking to every single tall defender in the competition who is out of contract or looking to move and those are the three out of dozens that Hutchy heard about?
