Hawks chasing Rance/Gibson/Lake

Pick 9 is going nowhere. The first round of this draft has some very good players and with no hope in next year's draft, this pick will be used by us.

Wrong. The top eight are pretty good but it ends there and even then it is nowhere near as good as last year.

No to all three.

Rance is highly regarded at Richmond and they won't trade him for anything but a very high pick. He's a good young player, although I am not sure he's 'gorilla key defender' material, which we need, so why?.

I like the way Gibson goes about it but at 189cm, he's not the bloke we need. More like a better version of Gilham, for mine.

Lake's going nowhere. My understanding is that Aker saying he wants to play on next year has caused the Dogs some concern over salary cap. I imagine if they win it this year, Aker retires and Lake gets big bucks. If they don't and want Aker to play on, they have a little more creative accounting to do to get Lake where both parties want. Either way, he'll get more at the Dogs than he'd get with us, so won't be coming to us.

Pick 9 for Gibson would be perfect.

I really rate Gibson. He is 189cm but plays more like 193 or 194. He can play as a genuine KP defender unlike players of about that size on our list such as Murphy and Birchall.

In the round 3 game this year, he was able to get as high as Buddy in marking contests which not too many defenders can do.

Rance would be my choice,
Gibson is not quite tall enough for the position we require him for, good player though.

Lake will cost us far too much.

Rance + 18 for 9 + 25 - mmm, not sure, hate to give up 9, but if we feel he can become a quality FB/CHB I would do it.

25 + <player> for Rance, this would be my choice, problem is, Hardwicke knows us better than anyone and will have great knowledge of our players potential and worth.

Dowler for Rance, seems like a win/win, Tigers get a key forward, we get a key back, I really don't want Beau to go anywhere though, I really want to see him succeed at Hawthorn. This trade may also be in the best interest of both players.

Forget trading Thorp, he has no value.

the more I think of it, if Hawthorn were prepared for a straight swap Dowler for Rance...I would think we may be interested. Seeing Dowler has only shown form as a FF , surely he would be surplus to your needs ...

Rance is a colt barely broken in....

Finds the footy
good agility, runs the lines
head over the ball

areas he is weak in , I believe can be developed, going into his third year...that is

Greater defensive work in the contest
Knowing when to hold and when to fold...he is still in the kiddie mode of playing on at all costs, not considering whats around him, players generally grow out of that with experience
His marking is ok, certainly not richo like, but not mark blake either:eek:

so at 20yo of age, well built youngster that moves well , finds the footy and puts his head over the pill is pretty good material to work with...I reckon there's only a remote chance he'll be traded and thats if the offer is tempting...we desperately need a youngster that looks likely as a FF, dowler could be it

Dowler for Rance are you kidding.

The guy has kicked 7 goals in his last two games and finally the hawks might be on the verge of getting the reward for the heavy investment in Beau.

The only way I would do this is if Dowler wanted out of the Hawks otherwise no bloody way.

Rance has a bit of an upside no doubt but his awareness is on par with Kosi from the Saints, not to mention injury prone.

I would agree with the straight swap of Dowler and Rance if you agree with a straight swap of Taylor for Vickery. :thumbsu:

If anybody at Port is supposedly up for trade then why aren't we chasing Carlile or Chaplin?

Couldn't agree more. Trust me, Hawks haven't said anything yet about who they are after, so the media are just putting two and two together.

We'll go hard after Port defenders. They are big. They can match the gorillas. There's two of them. There's disharmony at Port. People want out. Anyone up for trade.

That's the fertile patch, right there.

People, honestly...as if we'll get Lake???? Seriously. That's like us giving up Roughead.

Why would we go after Rance? We already have Shoenmakers who needs a few pre-seasons to hit his peak, but has already shown as much potential in one-on-ones has Rance has with an extra year. If we're going after a tall defender, he needs to be ready to play on Fevola in Rd1 next year. Hence why Gibson, Tarrant, Lake or Chaplin should be way ahead in terms of priority.
Rance is a HBF type anyway. Would be stupid to go after him

Lake is not going to happen becuase the Dogs will not deal on him.

Carlisle form Port for pick 9 and I will perosnally drive to port and pick Attipatti up myself to save the club his plane fair.

Would be a sensational pick up and is the rock ape we are in desperate need for.

Alex Rance is a definite for us to look at. Outstanding Junior that is only going to get bigger in body size as the years roll on.

Still learning the pace of the game but huge upsize on Rance.

I would like to get Gibson. He plays well on Buddy (meaning he is some sort of player), can play tall and small and he seems like a pretty good fella to me.

Getting Carlisle would be huge.

If we landed this I would be over the moon. However, he might be one of the few Port players that isn't up for trade :( He's had a solid year

lol, quit while you're ahead partner:p, dowler (22yo) has played what 2 good games in 4 years...rance (20yo) is second year and avgs 14 touches a game...how was dowler going in 2nd year:eek:, how about taking the left foot out now to give the right foot a go, glad I cleared it up for ya:thumbsu:

Met Gibson at party in Albert Park 2005 grand final day.

comes in with girlfriend, tries to crack on to everybody elses, and was telling everyone what a star he was.

No thanks, attitude off field not needed:thumbsdown:

Pick 9 will go for a proven player rather than a speculative one like Rance.

let me figure out whether that makes any sense at all and I'll come back to ya........so thats a proven draftee (errrr, isn't that an oximoron?) vs a speculative 20yo that has broken into senior ranks and finds it avg 14 times a game....you say it out aloud a few times and throw a glass of cold water over your head and come back to correct yourself later,

cheers:thumbsu:

your argument is fundamentally flawed.

you are equating a position in richmond's best 22 with "breaking into senior ranks".
