Hawks chasing Rance/Gibson/Lake

Whats this carp about a weak draft a top 10 pick is a top 10 pick....This years draft is stronger for every club than next years just take a look at what pick you will get in 2010......

Top 10 draft pick this year is like a top 5 pick any other year because of the new teams.

i would love gibson but not for pick 9...NO WAY!!! He aint that good.
on the other hand lets look at lake i would trade pick 9 and maybe a player for Lake.....Personally I think he will stick with the doggies!

If we dont trade our draft pick (i hope we do) I hope we get the best ava and not for position....

I think we're going about this all the wrong way.

Buying a player who has just played out of his skin means you're likely paying over-the-odds for form that is unlikely to be repeated.

Gibson, Tarrant, Lake are all quite likely to have a worse 2010 than 2009. If we use pick 9 in a trade for one of these and they have a worse year then we've made a very bad call.

This is why I like the mention of picking up Hampson from Carlton. He's an okay player that we can develop into a VERY ****ING GOOD player.

It's why blokes like Wells and Ball are great pick ups if you're looking to boost a midfield. It's why guys like Rodan, Jolly, Guerra, Gram, Schneider, Ted Richards, Tarrant and Gilham have all been good pick ups. They weren't performing/were'nt getting a chance and so they were picked up cheaply.

This may need it's own thread.

do what you like flog, but he will walk to psd for that,we dont care anyhow, our backline is settled for next decade without him
He merely suggested a reasonable trade and you call him a flog? He is some guy on the internet and not Chris Pelchen (that I'm aware of at least), it's not like what this guy says goes. Would you like a chill pill?

I just love the Kangawhos supporters.

They probably have the worst list in the AFL, huge financial problems, no crowds and they are talking tough about sending Gibson to the PSD.

Pelchen might not be popular, but if Gibson goes to the PSD, he will definitely end up at Hawthorn.

A little club like North will be better to take what they can to try to improve their list and next time, try not to let valuable players end the year without a contract.

With Gold Coast circling and many pundits identifying that clubs will be prepared to swap their picks for players this year, questions must be asked about this clubs' player management department, if they even have one.

Beggars belief.

I thought Hawthorn needed a monster KPD to help them take the opposition KPF's? Why are you chasing Gibson, a 189 cm player who plays his best football as the 2nd or 3rd tall.

I'm guessing Gilham will take the monsters, Shoenmakers will do his apprenticeship on the 2nd tall/higher up the ground forwards and Gibson will take Tom Murphy's role.

I know he's done a decent job in the past - but I can't see Gibson being a longterm answer to Riewoldts, Brown, Fevola, etc.

We need a third tall and tried for the last couple of season (Thornton etc) to land someone without success.

The trouble now is that with Croad going down we need a CHB and still the third tall as before. So i think Gibson fits the third tall requirement with an ability to play on a CHF as he has done playing on Franklin in the past.

Gibson plus a Brian Lake type of player or even Macguire from ST.Kilda would be nirvana.

Hey guys interesting paragraph in this Lake article.

Hawthorn was understood to have indicated it would pay around $550,000 a year for Lake's services, an amount the Swans were not prepared to match. The player's current contract is worth half that amount.

Looks like you've got a fair bit of spending money.

Yep. We have the money we were prepared to throw at ROK last year, plus the salary of Crawford - and possibly Croad. We are set up for a big off-season.

only paying 94% of the total salary cap, paying less then melbourne is.

Hawthorn has picked up a list that plays for the jumper and not the dollar, allowing us to recruit a few mercenaries
Looks like Lake is going to stay with the Bulldogs and in all seriousness would there have ever been a chance they would not have done a deal?

The Dogs have the option of cutting Welsh and one of Johnson, Akermanis and Eagleton if necessary to keep within the salary cap, with Eagleton the next most likely you would imagine.

Irrespective of how much room you have in the salary cap, offering Lake $550000 a year, and notwithstanding the "playing for the jumper" aspect, I think Hawthorn is moving into edgy territory. I know that if North was trying to recruit someone like Lake for above the odds, I would feel a level of some disquiet.

I would be absolutely astounded if there would not be one or two of your gun players receiving less money than this, feeling just a little unhappy about this treatment.

Feel free to call me an idiot (and I am sure many will :D), however I have witnessed human nature for far too long time to know that these things do cause some unrest amongst the ranks.

I suppose if Lake does re-sign with the Dogs this now makes the recruitment of Gibson more of a focus for your club.
