Scarletts an old man now anyhow and was not going to make a huge difference next week, he is just diminishing more each year. None of you are saying Hodge is in, will he be fit, he better be bloody fit for the win! We didnt really play that well last night and need to take it up a couple notches against the cats even though they arent the same team as last year, its gonna be a close one yet again.

Hmmm......I thought the intensity last night was almost finals-like in many respects, certainly 143 tackles reflected this.

As a pretty astute Port Adelaide poster said on the AFL mainboard, it was as if both sides where playing the second half/installment of the prelim.

I don't think that there is any doubt that we will play better footy in the finals (if we are good enough to make them) but make no mistake, we are up and about early.

when was the last time cats lost in round one of a home and away game.
Anyway CATS fans will use it as excuse if SACRLETT doesnt play..
DIRTY dog should get 4 weeks

I believe it was 2007.

Cats won the Premiership that year as well.

Cats were off tonight, yet still managed to come back from 5 goals to nothing and get in an almost winning position in Perth. Scarlett plays as a 3rd tall these days, so he's not the out he once would've been, but they'd certainly prefer he was there! But I reckon they'll be much sharper next week, and their talls in the forward line will still trouble us. It's gonna be tough, but we have no excuses - should win this one!

Scarlett out, so perhaps 3 talls in the forward line starting.
Gunston to start on the ground.
Cats looked rattled by Ballantyne. Loved how he got in Geelong's faces with niggling them; reminded me of Browndog.
Freo also have lots of quick players so Savage and Smith are essential to play well.
Sure the match committee took note.
What changes will come for the cats, too early to predict.
Hodge is unlikely, however, we can be sure he will do all he can to try and be fit enough to play if possible.
Maybe a couple of changes; predominantly using previous knowledge of best match ups from previous games.
Cats bag us constantly as they have recent wood on us since the GF.
All i know is that I will have a huge smile if at the end of round 2 the cats are sitting at 0-2.

By the way does anyone know a couple of boys who could rough up the cats or niggle as Ballantyne did?
A bit of a mean question but we need every advantage we can get!

Ossie goes alright - unfortunately according to the BF masses he must be dropped for his 17 possession game.

Ryan Crowley was an absolute beauty for pissing Geelong off, and particularly SOG - killed him on at least two occasions that come to mind.

This Geelong side prides themselves on their mental strength, but that is also their weak point.

Quite simply, they are too full of their own shit.

Agree with the above.
Lewis & Ossie can do the tough roles, as long as we get no reports and play a tough game I'll be happy :)

From the AFL website regarding reports from the Cats v Freo game:

Reports: Kelly (Gee) for striking Mzungu in first quarter, Podsiadly (Gee) for striking Suban in first quarter, Scarlett (Gee) for striking Ballantyne in third quarter.

Holy crap! Didn't notice the Pods & Kelly incidents watching the game, but I was trying to get two kids to bed at the same time, so...

Thought they looked grumpy tonight, but three reports is quite surprising. Any on Freo's side?

At least they'll be able to car pool.

Juice is not so cheap right now

Ballantyne got reported in the first quarter for hitting Chapman in the guts. He was throwing up afterwards apparently.

Everything is in favour for us this game. Scarlett will definately be out.
We have an extra day rest and the road trip to Perth is the worst one for Victorian clubs.

Would love to hear if anyone has any more info on the JPOD and Kelly reports. Imagine them without them in as well.

Think Shiels will be the only inclusion for next week. Unfortunately i think Bateman might be the one. Great servant for the club. Would love to see him play in every game and 3 finals and on Grand Final day running out for his 200th game. If PODS gets rubbed out then maybe Boumann gets dropped.

I'm furious that Scarlett won't be playing against us. When we beat the hand baggers they will just use this as an excuse.

Do you really care what they think?

Most of them don't even rate players like Hodge or Rioli, think we're a one-man Buddy show.

Just watched the incidents. Don't see anything on the TV coverage of the Kelly on Mzungu incident except for Clarke remonstrating with Kelly and Mzungu doubled over so I'm assuming a jab to the guts here.

The Jpod one he gives a bit of a whack to the head of Suban as he's running past (elbow/forearmish), Suban goes down like he's been shot (as often seen in this particular game), ump pays a 50m penalty. Nothing particularly violent about it.

I have no idea if either will get weeks.

Bit annoying this week having Collingwood fans use the injury excuses.

No doubt if a few cats players get weeks they'll be pulling out the excuses if we beat them.

Osborne stays in now with licence to get under the cats' skin. I also want to see Lewis and Guerra putting physical pressure on Geelong at every opportunity. Hodge, too if he's right to go.

Get the commentators talking about the unsociable footy again.

Nah, def 2008 - just watched the PF again this week on Foxtel, and they mentioned a few times whether it would be either Harvey or Crawf to get the opportunity to finish with a Premiership medallion. Of course, Crawf did...

I do remember something happening between Scarlett & Harvey, tho...

cats have always been a grumpy side when challenged, although Ling and Harley would have kept it under control. selwood seemed ot be one of the main offenders.

Nice to see a club going the niggle come off worse in injuries and reports.

Hard game for them to recover from - although i note the daytime temp was 20 degrees and our game was played on a 24 degree balmy noght !

We can beat the Cats at full strength too if our mental strength is as strong as it was againts the Pies on Friday night.
I'm more concerned at playing the under dog under man Cats than playing a favuorote and full strength Cats team.
Be weary of wounded bull or in this case the wounded Cat...

Sorry Badgrill, I was referring to the question about the last time Geelong lost rd 1.

Will be another typical Hawks v Cats encounter, they will be without 3 or 4 players that have been thorns in recent defeats. I speak not only of Scarlett whom i expect will be out for at least 4, but also retired players in Ling, Ottens and Milburn. I know Milburn was not in their granny team but i still think in some of our previous games he has been a thorn. For us, well the last time we played, Roughy had little impact due to his injury in that game, Gilham was already out, and Bailey was as fresh as what Mccauley is now.
Doubt Hodge or Roughy will come in ( although i do hope they get up ) ,prob Sheils to come in for anybodies guess. Cats will be reeling from a tight loss in Perth and out to get points on the board. Travel is not an issue these days, that is such crap.. We will be out to break a losing streak to them that is very overdue. Will need to play very good football to win.

Havnt posted this year yet, went to Fridays game and watched Geelong /Freo, one thing that struck me that is a subtle change form last year with us is pace, we looked to have slightly changed body shapes and trimmed down/slim lined, this has added pace/endurnace, interesting when most of the comp is emulating the Geelong model of heavy set, contested ball game plan, reckon it is a key factor that is going to take us to the next level this year and give us an advantage against most who are trying to play the press, stoppages, contested ball brand. Changing of the guard starts this the coming Monday!!
