Re: Hawks Meet Pies in Rd1

I don't even think Collingwood will make the top 4 to be honest. Lost a few valuable assistants, lost the best coach in the comp, and have an inexperienced, arrogant w***er in Buckly running the show. The only reason they were successful the last 2 years was because of their gameplan, but teams have worked that out now. Collingwood will drop out of the top 4.

Re: Hawks Meet Pies in Rd1

Maybe, but what if we end up 2-0? I go into next year with an expectation to win every game, regardless of whatever team we're up against. If we want to truly believe we are deserved premiership chances, let's start acting the part.

I agree with you.

We need to be 2-0 or 1-1.

Simply can't be 0-2

Re: Hawks Meet Pies in Rd1

Tough run first up.

Would love to win both - would expect us to win one, lose one - not sure which way it will be. The start of the season is a topsy turvy time until formlines get built.

You never know how a grand final loss will affect a team - they could fall to pieces, they could come out firing better than ever.

Whoever plays us in round 3 will be pretty confident.

Second thread in a row I agree 100%. We will be cherry ripe to be upset in round 3. Need to win at least one of those first two.

Re: Hawks Meet Pies in Rd1

For those who are into omens...

The last time we played Pies in Round 1 was 1989 (& we lost by 10 points).

And we know what happened in 1989 :thumbsu:

Have played plenty of times in round 1 since then

98, 99, 00, 01

Re: Hawks Meet Pies in Rd1

To think that Franklin was our only forward against collingwood in the prelim. Come round 1 we will have Roughead & Gunston up forward plus Hale floating up forward. Plus down back the addition of Boumann combining with Schoenmakers Gilham with Stratton & Gibson as the 3rd - 4th talls. Plus players like Savage Ellis Young Cheney pushing for a spot. I'd hate to be on the selection commitee! Going to be very tough for Osborne Bateman & Bruce to be regular starters. Puopolo Smith Savage have taken their spots.

Amen!!

Re: Hawks Meet Pies in Rd1

If the AFL don't schedule hawthorn versus Carlton @ the MCG, then the AFL are f***** in the head! Both teams you would think will finish top4, and would get 80,000+ :) Since 2004 we have played Carlton at Etihad Stadium 7 out of the 9 times we have played them, and only twice at the G. Not good enough!

Re: Hawks Meet Pies in Rd1

Just reading Jeff's piece on the HFC website about the president election, he talks about always being frank in his communication to us. He then goes onto saying we will hear from on Friday and again he will be frank.

Now with the Fixture coming out on Friday, and the Tasmanina sponsorship deal going against what the AFL wanted, is this where we will see the backlash from it?

My feeling is that if this is the case, Jeff will respond in true Jeff style.

But then again, i may be paranoid... Guess we will find out tomorrow morning.

Has anyone talked about the hawks draw for 2012?

has the draw been mentioned by anybody?
we play the top 4 teams twice each (geel coll wc)
pretty hard draw, if we can make top 4 we should be doing well
i hope we dont lose to those teams everytime we meet them next year
thats 6 losses, not including losing to other teams

just thought id share that if nobody was talking about it? very hard draw i think

Re: Hawks Meet Pies in Rd1

I'm expecting the AFL to then schedule us to play the Eagles (away), Cats, Swans (away) and Blues in the following 4 rounds

Not a bad prediction

Rd.1 Coll (home)
Rd.2 Geel (away)
Rd.3 Adelaide (home)
Rd.4 West Coast (away)
Rd.5 Sydney (home)
Rd.6 St Kilda (away)

4-2 will be a very good result after those 6 games.

Re: Hawks Meet Pies in Rd1

I am flying out for a 6 week European holiday on the Saturday after we play Collingwood in round 1.

Can think of no better going away gift than the Hawks beating them. :thumbsu:

Re: Hawks Meet Pies in Rd1

I have never felt as much hatred for a team as I do for collingwood right now. I hope the boys can work up something similar in Kokoda, maybe a fifth pillar 'destroy collingwood'

Geez, play the other top three in the first 4 weeks.

Strange fixturing AFL.

Pfft.. You don't get a gift for going to Europe. If anything you should buy me a gift for staying behind. Yes, yes, quite right; buy me something.

What's strange about it? Vlad scheduled us to play 3 of the top 4 in the first four rounds of 2010 too.

How much longer do we have to put up with this manipulating puppeteer?

Certainly explains Jeff's outburst.

Re: Hawks Meet Pies in Rd1

There is a player for Hawthorn that wears the #3 Guernsey that will come out smoking! :thumbsu: With hopefully the other 21 players to have that same mindset in this match! :)

You can always tell by the players body language during the preseason, weather they are switched on or not, and they are on! Competition for a spot in our team is going to be even harder in 2012! :D

Re: Hawks Meet Pies in Rd1

I had a dream that your plane went down 23 mins into the flight and your burnt, twisted mangled body could not be identified? Now that would be a real gift for us Collingwood supporters? Knowing Dorkthorn, they'll count you as multiple memebership?

Oh Grizzly........

Wow. What a pathetic human being you are. Enjoy your ban you flog

Re: Hawks Meet Pies in Rd1

Current Odds @ TAB.

Haw 2.20
Coll 1.70

I got no doubt that by game time our odds will continue to shorten. Collingwood could possibly be without Krakouer Johnson and Didak, and perhaps N.Brown. With the retirements of Davis and L.Brown. Their depth will be seriously tested. From our point of view Roughead and Gilham are 50/50 at best. Players like Bruce, Bateman, Osborne, Ellis and Young all could go either way. It's very tough to pick 22 fit players for Round 1, as I think there is at least 32 players who could all put their hand up for selection. Our depth is as good as it has been in years. :thumbsu:

We should be favourites imo, they have more under a cloud than us and we will be up for the game because of the game the next week against the cats, the pies will ease into the season i think whereas we will come out guns blazing and try and get early wins on the board, there is nothing in it in regards to the premeirship between us and the pies, alot of people are saying the pies are clear favourites, not so sure, they dont have any clear advantage on us this year as they might have had last year.

Exactly. I've been saying that, how is Collingwood team that us played us in the PF, stronger going into Round 1. We have Roughead and Gilham (Hopefully) Ellis Young Savage Breust Bruce Gunston all in contention. Where as for Collingwood maybe Goldsack MaCaffer and Wood would be in contention. IMO our depth is better then theirs this year. :thumbsu:
