Hawthorn after Goldsack

We delisted him didn't we?

Anyways, I would hate to see Goldy do but you have to listen to their offers. Goldy is just so flexible and he proved that against the Saints so preference is to keep him.

Why is everyone so keen on Lewis? Is he that good? Yeh he's tough but we have Blair and Beams coming through to fit that role I recon...

love both dearly but Lewis is better than them.

Interesting choice of player that we're going after. I like the Sack, think he could be a VERY handy player but I've got no idea how we'd use him... Maybe as the 3rd tall / spoiling player that Maxwell plays for you guys. It'll be interesting to see what we're willing to give up for him.

Perhaps the pick we got for Campbell Brown?

People have short memories, Lewis was dropped by Hawthorn halfway through the year.

if it were to be entertained..

Goldsack for Lewis..?
Add a bit of grunt to our midfield..

it would only come about if Goldsack wanted to go though..

We don't need grunt in our midfield. We already have it.

Keep the Sack. Can play back and forward and is only young. Plenty of upside to.

That's a first rounder, right?

I'd consider that IF Tyson wanted to play for you guys.

Not really sure why that matters, Goldsack gets dropped every second week.

I'd be interested in Muston + 3rd round pick

I wish you had a hand in this. Hawthorn would be falling over themselves to agree to that.

i guess for the right price but hawthorn won't want to give up to much for him.
I'm very surprised they haven't inquired about Fraser!

Fraser, with all due respect is finished.

I'd expect our Brown compensation pick will be offered for Goldsack, however I don't see a deal getting done, although may be part of the three way for Tarrant.

No doubt we'd have to sweeten the deal to get Lewis. Would be a bloody good get if we could though.

This Lewis would be a great addition to us.

goldsack has soo much potential its not funny. i really think he can reach goddards calibre

This tread has lead to nothing, just that Goldy will become a top 5 play in the comp and someone wants Muston for some reason. we are rather bored with the lack of trades

Are you two on crack? Goldsack is Maxwell lite, he is a fantastic player but has no superstar potential what so ever. He moves well for his size but he is a poor kick of the football and a massive fumbler. He will never be any good as an offensive midfield player for those two reasons. As a defender he is getting better but still struggles for match ups, not good enough on smalls not strong enough for KPP so is limited medium sized lead up players.

I love the way he goes about it but he is a seriously average player.

Not sure why many seem keen on Lewis. To me he is a skilled outside plodder. He doesn't play much inhside with Sewell, Hodge, Mitchell & Burgoyne.

If you're an outside player, you need speed in todays game. Lewis doesn't. Beams will be a far better player then Lewis.

Prefer to keep the sack. I'd be extremely weary of any player Hwwthorn offer up for trade.

Their history of trading injured washed up hacks is 2nd to none. Mark Williams last year, Hay & Nathan Thompson before that although Thompson did OK. Not worth the trade though.

The grubs from Hawthorn have supposedly appraoched Goldy and siad "you wont get much of a go if Tarrant comes back to the Pies"

Grubs filthy on missing Taz.

You need to go back and watch the games when Goldsack came into the side Shawthing, he was fantastic. In fact people on here were debating whether we'd be able to fit Maxwell back in, such were the quality of his performances. I think he can be a best 22 player going forward for sure.

Ridiculous overrating of Goldsack in this thread. So because he was very lucky to be a Premiership player, he's suddenly a superstar and potentially a top 5 player in the comp? Goldsack is extremely expendable. Jordan Lewis at his best was in the top 10 inside mids in the comp. He's been well below that recently, due to injuries and suspensions, but he's still a very very good player. Goldsack is a flexible backup.

I would probably prefer a pick, or pick and player, because I think we should stock up on draft picks with the compromised drafts, but Lewis for Goldsack would be a steal. Tom Young looks like easily replacing Goldsack's role in the coming years. Lewis is 24, can play Luke Ball's role but has also shown he can go forward and kick goals. He's a massive body, and as much as we might think we are are great inside team, St Kilda were clearly bigger than us and more dominant physically, where we smashed them for speed. Look at our inside mids, Ball, Pendlebury, Wellingham, Swan, Beams, Blair etc. Overall they aren't that big. They do a fantastic job for their individual size, but it would be good to have a genuinely big body in there when we need it.

People get very carried away with the words premiership player. If this was speculated 2 weeks ago we would all be saying lets see what we can get for him.

I like the sack but lets face it he is no world better. He is about 23 and still at best just in our best 22. We have Tom Young who looks a similar type and even jarred blight as well as looking at tarrant who will play the same role in a year or 2.

He is a hero and always will be because he is a collingwood premiership player but he is no better now because he has a medal around his neck. I reckon clubs win a flag and miss opportunties by refusing to trade premiership players and then a few years later they are down the bottom.

If we could get a decent forward or mid for him Id take it. If we could get lewis it would add even more depth to our midfield and IMO would be a trade in our favour. I doubt the hawks would do the deal with lewis TBH as I think they would be the losers in this deal.

Agree on this. Leon is, according to the AFL Commission's decision, also a premiership player with a medal and all.

To be totally fair people on the boards still don't always rate Maxwell as a player. Goldsack is "prettier" when on offence and so is always going to attract more attention then Maxwell.

He played about 10 games the last four of which, would have been average at best.

Remember it clearly. He wasn't fantastic, he was very solid, and his torps also happened to come off, which people went on and on about. I also remember the shocking games he had in the last two of the season. I don't regard Goldsack as a reliable player whatsoever, he can easily have a shocker as a good game. Mainly due to flaws which have been mentioned.

Also it will no longer be best 22. It will be best 21 from now on. The sub is not going to get significant game time in most games. Goldsack will remain an insurance. In fact some of the young players in the VFL will probably go past him.

im inclined to agree that he can develop into a best 22 player, and that period your talking about he was tearing it up.

then iirc he had a very slow period where he was quite average and ended up getting dropped

overall i think hes a good player and handy but if we lost him it wouldnt be the worst thing in the world

Agreed, geez he is overrated here, even in the Grand Final, he really didn't do much.

He had a patch late in the year where he played 2 really good games, but he is still a fringe player. If Hawthorn offered the right deal i would trade him, but I can only see him ever being a player 18-25th on our list.

Lewis is a good player...but doesn't overly interest me. He is a bit too outside for my liking. I've watched him closely for the last few years because he is always on my DT radar...but he is very reliant on those feeding it out to him.

He would be a handy addition no doubt because we have plenty of insiders who could feed it to him....but the key to our game tends to be having players that can play inside/outside. Pendlebury is a better player.

That said, some of his best footy this year was as a defensive forward, so he would fit the game-plan in this regards and his accuracy in front of goals would be handy.

I'm just not overly keen on getting rid of premiership players. Hawks were unwilling to do this when they won a flag...Geelong stuck with their core players as well.

Even if Tarrant comes to the side, he is not a long term prospect. Goldsack can play any role asked. He doesn't carry massive value....but that is a very handy player to have on the list. He was quite good in the Grand Final, and was brilliant mid-year in a number of games.

I think the gain from getting Lewis would only be marginal compared to what we lost from Goldsack.

I think it's very important the club remains loyal to premiership players. Ultimately, we are going to be asking guys like Cloke, Swan and Pendlebury to be loyal to the club in forthcoming years with GC and GWS making massive offers to them. If we don't show the players any loyalty, why should they show it back to us?

Either way, I back in the recruiters to make the right call. I would not be dissapointed if a player like Lewis came to the club because he is tough...but don't think he is really required. Versatile players like Goldsack are very hard to find.

Goldsack is also the perfect answer to the substitute rule. He can come on and player in any position on the ground where there is a deficiency.

Yeah fair overrating of Goldsack here. He should be off the market because he's a pretty solid part of the team but he's not top draw. He's no O'Brien or Shaw for instance.

I would actually like to re-iterate this point...because now that I think about it...I can see why Hawks would be so keen to acquire his services.

I am in no way advocating pushing Goldsack out, I am all for loyalty and keeping the group together but at the same time if he wants out or we can get the right deal it has to be looked at.

I also think that people are over selling Goldsack's versatilty here. As I mentioned above he is at best average with the ball and very fumbly at ground level. He is a tall HBF or defensive foward, with the outside chance of being a linking wing player.

Obviously Goldsack is no superstar but he is a good player, in fact he is a best 22 player in a premiership side.

At the end of the day, he adds so much flexibility to our side and we actually look a lot better with him in it.

Last season, many said the same thing about Wellingham/Dawes being expendable but both now are established best 22 players considered untouchable.

Goldsack fought his way into our team and was rewarded with premiership success. IMO, he will only get better.

I'm glad Hine has said the club will not be giving him up.
