Please don’t bring Barrett’s sliding doors rubbish here. That’s not the Hawthorn footy club in the media.

That’s a desperate article, trying to get clicks every week.

I don't fancy any of those potential external-CEO candidates they put forward in the article. I don't know who I want, but I don't want anyone from the Dogs, Freo, Gold Coast, Essendon or Geelong. We seem to be humming along pretty well with our acting CEO. I would be happy to see our current performance continue.

If it's someone external, I think I would like to see a candidate from Sydney or Richmond. They seem like well-run clubs. Low on drama, high on football. I would put Geelong on that list as well but seeing as we poached our last CEO from them, I think it would be nice to get one from somewhere else. Maybe someone from one of thee championship NBL teams? Who is run well there? Sydney Kings?
Auld is the perfect CEO. Strengthens ties to AFL house and a very good operator.

Perhaps, but Essendon, Gold Coast and then AFL administration just doesn’t float my boat for a pedigree. I would prefer someone from a club with a winning tradition. I think that’s more important criteria than AFL relationships. And someone from a successful club should be connected already, I would hope.

But then I’m not making the decision so what does my opinion matter anyways?

Wouldn't mind Langers as the CEO just quietly.
This man could play Batman.
If Langers was CEO then you could just imagine him rocking up at Gil's place in a full Batman suit in the middle of the night. In my twisted mind I could just envision Gil then hanging by his feet by a rope and Langers saying to him (in a deep Batman voice) 'the Hawks didn't leak'. Gil then starts crying and pi$$es all over himself in fright. The next day the HFC gets word that the Giants will be dealing their 1st rounder to us 😂😂😂

Eh, he’s been ok recently, and clearly respects Sam. However his critique of us wasn’t just 3-4 years ago, it was last year. He said we had “no young talent”, our only good players were 28yo and older, and “Sams been set up to fail as a coach” because we had the “worst list in the comp”.

I took little notice then, and take little

Thanks for that, good read. But, I love the last line about us " forgetting about Harley Reid"!

I think Robbo gets a rough deal on this forum simply because he's a brain dead moron who can barely string a sentence together in English. A man who blusters about but when you stop and look at what he says it actually amounts to not much. He's anything but objective and impartial he's an idiot (the only thing I agree with is Whateley is an bias towards the cats - also speaks like he thinks he's smarter than everyone else though he's just some outer suburban bloke who likes to bang on about sport like most of us)
I had to check that I hadn't actually written this.

If somewhere north of $500k is not enough ?? Travis Auld would cost $750k at least per annum. I understand we are prepared to pay it. This is a very important appointment. We are keen “on someone who has a long list of existing contacts”.
Auld is crucial. If nothing else, it gets Dillon onside, and Gil/ commission off our backs.

Pay him whatever.

Langers is MD of a fund with $500m+ of assets. More likely to be AFL chairman than a club CEO.

Actually more like $1.5 billion in assets. Langers is about 60 and if he returned to the Hawks in future it would more likely be as President not CEO.
CEO should be someone with professional sporting industry experience like Travis Auld or similar.
Auld may also be able to rebuild our relationship with the AFL which I am reliably informed deteriorated during the reign of a recently deposed President.

I feel dirty agreeing to this but we will need to sleep and catch flees with these dogs over the next short while

As long as Auld doesn’t try and play us in the process. He is working for Hawthorn, and Hawthorn only.

😳

Didn’t he work with the AFLPA for the AFL in the new salary cap if so inside knowledge of how much it will go up could be a big advantage when going after players.
