Just like last years thread, whatever Barrett has to say is not Hawthorn in the media.

Couldn’t care less for his shit takes, they don’t belong here.

Awful optics here. Terrible organisation (club should have changed the date as soon as conflict with PCM was known); but still no excuse.

Hope the two boys go above and beyond, run the clinic (or multiple) again for the kids - maybe even get involved in the junior club concerned. Not just a "sticker pack" apology

One of the stupidest stories I've heard reported all year. I heard Jacqui Felgate mentioning it in the lead-up to 4 pm. She and 3AW made it sound like a drug saga had just broken. A complete media beatup trying to tarnish the club's name and truly sensationalized reporting. There is nothing to this story other than I imagine Ginnivan and Watson have the same management, and they made a bad mistake in scheduling a football clinic the morning after the Peter Crimmins Medal (obviously tired and probably had a few drinks) and this early in the offseason. I doubt even our most professional and experienced players would show up to a clinic the day after the Peter Crimmins Medal.

It's no wonder Ginnivan was caught using illicit substances in the Torquay Hotel when the media are on his back like this. And I don't necessarily like Ginnivan and how he acts. Yes, Ginnivan and Watson should do something considering people paid money, but the kids can grow a bit of resilience out of all this. Jack Ginnivan and Nick Watson have done nothing wrong whatsoever. Complete and utter rubbish story if I've ever heard one.

it’s the equivalent of pulling a sicky after a big night. Literally 95% of the aus community would’ve done it at some point.

Are people defending Ginni and Watto because they're Hawthorn players and no other reason?

It was bad scheduling, sure. But these guys (despite being young) are professional athletes and this is an important part of their job.

There were two options at play here.
1. Reschedule the event early enough to avoid what ended up happening.
2. Front up, hungover or not.

Unfortunately they went with option 3 which was attempt to do both, resulting in a lot of disappointed kids when they all showed up but the players didn't.

Hopefully they learn from this and nothing of the sort happens again.

Keep in mind how much you'd love sinking the boots in if an Essendon player did the same thing. Ginni and Wiz can't just be excused because they wear our colours.

95% of the community aren’t being paid the equivalent of a CEO’s wage. They’re being paid to represent their brand whenever and wherever required.
It’s also a terrible look for the club especially where we’re in an environment where clubs are competing for support in an 11-club state and international sporting brands.

Ginnivan had been attempting to reschedule for weeks

Whilst it doesn't look good, the reporting on it is in extremely bad faith

Oh the humanity. I’ve never been this disappointed over a 22 year old and a 19 year old missing an appointment.

Stop defending the indefensible. You obviously don’t have kids or run a business. It’s also a terrible look for the club and shows utter selfishness on behalf of both players who should’ve known better.

Moot point. If he was rescheduling it because he wanted to have a big night on the turps then he should hand back his salary and get a job that allows him to not give 2 fks.
Ginnivan' s professional career has nothing to do with this, wasnt organized through the club
Not that hard to understand

Not a great look, but nothing to do with his Hawthorn contract

Calling them "no shows" when they called prior is a stretch and would be a poor way to label it in any other work place.

Sounds to me like the Junior Footy Stars program scheduled an event poorly, didn't try to re-arrange it despite being contacted by at least one of the players well advanced of the session, and then wanted to pass the buck.
