Hawthorn - overwhelming favourites week one finals v Geelong

Harry Taylor. Dead set legend. Pulled down some really telling marks at crucial times during his career. Never seems to be rated by anyone (except us Cat fans of course) but he sure Spooks your boys. :)
I only think of one thing when I read the words 'spook' and 'Harry Taylor', and it ends with Stuart Dew slotting one from 50.

I'll wait to see how Geelong play this week before judging there chances against the Hawks.

I think they'll roll the Pies in a bruising, frantic, tight affair.

They'll then be the media focus all week after conquering the Pies twice, being talked up and firmly entrenched in the neutrals hearts as the old boys having one more crack.

Well, I hope all the above happens.

Very stable club right now Hawthorn, with Clarko signed up the media have nothing to write about. Happy to stay under the radar if possible.

A 1 week suspension to SJ wouldnt hurt either...

Why bother with the junk time dog? He hasn't bothered us much of late. Would much rather Chapman or Ottens to be out.

Completely agree. The last player we need to worry about is SJ- massively overrated and doesn't cause us any issues.

Corey is the big out if it eventuates. He always plays well against us.

Hawks backline is very ordinary...if the Cats have one forward stand up then they will win, and win well .

Won't mean a thing if we continue to get smashed in the clearances like we have the last few weeks.

Hopefully come finals time, Chris Scott plays Bartel in the middle more rather than on the wing or half forward line. I'd like to see us start with Bartel, Corey and Selwood at the opening bounce, with Chapman, Kelly and Ling the main players rotating through there. I'd prefer it if we keep SJ in the forward line where he's more damaging to the opposition.

The cats will win the QF because hawthorn are still living in the past high fiving each other and reminiscing of 08.

Were living in the now..we will win.

Whist I am sure your football knowledge is first rate, I think Brad Scott might have summed it up a little better tonight on AFL insight when he said SJ is the bloke at Geelong that an opposition coach would put most time into above all others at Geelong.

BigFooty poster biased opinion or that of an AFL coach? Think I'll stick with the experts, but thanks for your input. Duly noted. Phil someone on an anonymous internet chatting site doesn't rate SJ - check.

LOL @ the thin skin.

In no particular order:

i) Chris Scott is hardly going to give any hints to the opposition;
ii) Clarkson knows more about Hawks being troubled by Geelong players than Chris Scott knows about troubling Hawthorn with Geelong players.
iii) Stevie J's record against Hawthorn is undeniably ordinary. He does most of his good work at Kardinia Park, and his Norm was won in a junk time grand final.

Hope none of that hurt your feelings too.

You do realise he said Brad Scott (ie. coach of North Melbourne), don't you?

I am sure your knowledge of Hawthorn is first rate. Just because Brad Scott is saying he rates SJ is because he doesn't have a match up for him. FFS he is referring to the stellar backline that is North Melbourne.

Do you realise there are certain teams that match up better on certain players? For example, Geelong match up well on Buddy. Essendon don't and he kicks bags on them.

Hence the reason SJ doesn't get respect from most Hawk supporters. Chapman, Bartel and Scarlett do because they play well against us. Too hard for you to understand?

My bad

Points 2 & 3 still stand.

See my post above; the tenor of my argument is still sound, as illustrated by the quote below.

Scarlett, Ottens, Bartell, Chapman, even Taylor have caused the Hawks far more problems than SJ. Not sure SJ has ever asked for credit card details in a Hawks match.

Spot on.

Which obviously means that he can never possibly play well against the Hawks. Fair enough, I didn't realise the past dictated the future so definitively.

Thanks again. Maybe best if we play a first gamer as they will have no battle scars from those big bad Hawks.

The irony is, you're in a position to know more about footy than the vast majority of BigFooty.:D

Bullshit, stop trying to talk us up. I recon it will be Gee 1.90 haw 2.70.

Geelong have been the 2nd best team all year. If your a betting man, take any team under 15.5 :)
If Hawks smash GC, and Pies smash Cats, Hawks finish 2nd, Cats 3rd, so Hawks end up being 2nd best team for the year. Anyway....

Couldn't give a stuff whether you respect him or not. He is a class player and of course your coach will be planning for him. Don't plan at your peril. And yes he has some ordinary games, just like all players.

P.S. Just because Franklin doesn't play well against geelong, doesn't mean I don't rate him.

Too hard for you to understand?

Yes that's a pretty fair assessment. It's like us Hawthorn supporters coming out with something dumb like Buddy will kick 6 on Taylor/Lonergan. If on the off chace he does kick 6, great for us. History suggests that it is very unlikely which means we need a spread of goalkickers to win the game.

The only exception to that rule is if there is completely new personnel. Both Hawthorn and Geelong haven't turned over their list all that much so you would think history will likely repeat.

Where is the rule that says "you must under all circumstances respect a player even though he plays like poo against your own team?"

I just don't rate him as highly as some of your other players and think he is overhyped.

Franklin is a bit of a different scenario. You are talking about arguably the best player in the game.

But I think you are right. Stevie J just shades Franklin. SJ is a freak and I am going to have dreams of him blind turning and selling opposition players candy in a field of daffodils.

I can understand where Hawthorn fans are coming from in regards to SJ. Was just looking at his statistics, and in his last 5 games against Hawthorn, he's averaging 25 possessions, but has only kicked 6 goals 11 behinds in those games. So, while he's getting his hands on the ball a lot, he's not exactly hurting them on the scoreboard.

I think Hawthorn will finish 2nd and Geelong 3rd, the question is are Geelong staging in to the finals, look like a team gone for the season, only to jump out of the blocks and get a jump on the Hawks??? Time will tell if they are staging or have really dropped off.

Hawthorn will have the better form going in to the game, but they need to break away from Geelong which they have failed to do on many recent occasions.

I expect it to be a close game, as Hawthorn don't put good teams away... Hawks by 10 points.
