The Firrito tactics on Bruest reminded me of when I used to have to line up on the big overweight full forwards in the amos. Generally the type that were towards the end of their career and the sole source of enjoyment in their lives was taking out blokes half their size. You always managed to blow them up in the end.

Breust is tough at the ball but I haven't seen him targeted like that - thought it put it off his game a little. Would be surprised if Firrito copped a week for his actions. There was some forearm chin music which had similarities to the recent Hawkins strike.

Nice work from Titus O'Reily

North Melbourne (84) v Hawthorn (93)

Amazing. A game full of drama but the most dramatic moment happened after the match.

Only Brad Scott could swing AFL fans’ sympathies to the umpires so completely and so quickly.

If you missed it, Brad said the umpires treated Lindsay Thomas differently when it came to free kicks because he was a ‘ducker’. He claimed the umpires told his players this out on the field.

His comments occurred in the post-match media conference, a place where Brad likes to sulk and blame other things or people for his team’s failings.

The AFL took about three seconds to comprehensively disprove Brad’s claims, which is about the time it would have taken Brad to probably check before making a fool of himself.

Really, it was a bit like North’s performance, coming out strong but proving wanting when it mattered due to a lack of accuracy.

Perhaps Brad just stirred up this controversy to distract from the fact his side had failed against another top side. At least that would make sense.

It’s a shame too, as this was a great game. The Kangaroos obviously remembered the past transgressions of the Hawks and set about making them earn every single possession.

North just couldn’t convert though. If you’re going to try and intimidate Hawthorn, you can’t then miss easy shots.

Like popular AFL special comments man Niccolò Machiavelli said, “If an injury has to be done to a man, it should be so severe that his vengeance need not be feared.”

Old Niccolò is right, you’ve got to finish them when you can or they’ll come back like herpes (which is how I think of the Hawks).

In the end, this game just had it all, excitement, drama, skill and especially Hawthorn winning and North losing.

The last thirty seconds of the game is the game in a nutshell.

Cyril and Poppy about to descend on McMillan in a back pocket.

McMillan throws his head back so fast and far cyrils tackling hand slips under his armpit. it might have been high if McMillan had had more north 'special training'

North lose drops like s.o.s but hawks simply tackle him. umpire gives HTB and loser miraculously recovers and berates, pleads with umpire for several seconds, joined in by Firrito who admitted he was stuffed from all the argy bargy he'd engaged in. Just cheating really.

Puopolo cooly slots a goal and game is won beyond all doubt

Our anniversary years would be anything ending in a 1 (three times), 3 (twice), 4, 5, 6(twice), 8 (three times) or 9. The odd number out is 6 - we need to win this year to keep the pattern going.
After that we need to cover for the missing 2, 7 and 0.

I'm happy for the media to puff the chests of the Norf players up. Give them their congratulations at a "brave" loss where they played "tough" and showed they weren't the Hawks bunnies

The way they were all so happy about losing a close one apparently only because of the umpires is exactly why they get no respect for being an actual contender
We should all be used to the fact now, that no one will give the Hawks credit for anything Gralin, because they are all eaten up with jealousy for not being able to do what the Hawks can do! I will be watching Thusday nights game to see the Crows send north further south down the ladder!!!!!

No mention anywhere of Bruest being legged in the goal square. All about Thomas not getting his high tackle free.....

That's because the papers are largely yellow rags, not news sources. Maximise the controversy.

So the fall out from the game
North Players fined
Ziebell Wells for Melee
Firrito for wrestling
Hawks players fined
Poppy Hill for melee
Smith for wresting
Howe for striking Petrie

no other cases to answer Ziebell cleared for his bump on Mitchell

Challenge and call north players as witnesses, stuff up their week

Even Stevens. Perfectly understandable as aggression was equal on both sides. And as for Mitchell, it was a line ball between Zeibell laying a shoulder into his chin and Mitchell trying to break Zeibell's collarbone with his jaw.

(Mitchell will stand a better chance of survival in future matches if he wears a Cecil the lion costume.)

Ziebell has history should have got a week based on the fact he likes to leave the ground, insufficient force my arse

Firito just got the green light along with every other mug that not only does Breust not have a back he apparently doesn't have a head either so it's open season on Punky now even more than before.

They let an absolute truckload of shit through to the keeper from that game, interesting to see how clubs play us for the rest of the year, could get more valuable experience into the kids pre finals but its going to be a real tightrope for the club to walk with discipline if it continues

I'm pretty sure they are going to go after us cheap and someone will get weeks for fighting back. Frawley is the obvious enforcer choice and I think he would do a fearfully good job at it. But it will tough to miss him for the suspension. Dunno. Lewis has no fear. Smith has some grumble in him as well but he's awfully skinny, no one is going to fear him. Hodge has missed too much to go back out, but maybe that will be the point.

But when it comes it will be hard. And whoever is the target will wish they had kept out if it.

There can be no other outcome. The MRP has declared it open season on hawks.

The hell did Hill or Poppy even do? I saw Hill holding players BACK from trying to get into a push or shove twice. Us getting penalised more sounds about right after that umpiring performance anway. Hate because they ain't us?

basically Hill and Poppy got fined for going Ziebell and Wells for Ziebells cheap shot on Mitch
Smith got fined for going Firrito for hitting him after he kicked the goal
And pretty sure Howe got done for a little tummy tap from that pinching eye gouging possum Petrie who gets away with all his crap same as Boomer

the north counterparts in the hawks incidents got fined but none of the other stuff the north blokes did or instigated was even looked at

I heard that it was a team rule that no player was to instigate any niggling, or react to anything from the opposition.

That would explain why our guys took it and didn't give it back.

And why Clarko was so happy with the win.

The MRP thought otherwise - absolutely disgusting :thumbsdown::thumbsdown::thumbsdown::thumbsdown:

a fine here or there for jumper pulling or wrestling is nothing major, the tummy tap Howe got done for is one of those lotto things that you can get away with or get fined for but that is about it.

The bigger issue is the MRP basically making official the open season on the Hawks that the umpires have been quietly alluding to for weeks now with what they have been letting opponents get away with around play.

Our boys are being hunted in a way other clubs are not, just the latest attempt at equalisation...... should make for an interesting season

That reads almost like an erotic novel and No - I'm not Bruce

And here I was thinking the potential to cause injury was going to come into play here

I mean Hodge got Swallow mainly in the chest too

And in August 2010, Cyril was suspended for a week for "attempting to strike" Nick Salter.....the incredible bias against Hawthorn continues at the MRP.

Gutless M.R.P. didn't even comment on the so called "Dangerous" action of Ben McEvoy against Ziebell when Ziebell jumped into McEvoy and the umpire paid a free kick against McEvoy for a Dangerous action..............fair dinkum.

They could have, in fact should have reviewed the incident and praised McEvoy for his actions but no, they remain silent.

Gutles, gutless, gutless.
