In light of the news that a quarantine exemption will not be granted for AFL players flying in and out of South Australia for the foreseeable future, what are everyone's thoughts on utilizing Tio Stadium as our home ground for the year? Potentially the NT government will be a little more lenient in granting this FIFO exemption, plus it gives us a distinct advantage training and acclimatizing in the heat, along with ensuring the visiting teams will be travelling the maximum distance to play their away games. In addition, the NT is an incredibly safe place to be at the moment compared with the eastern seaboard. The way I see it, this will be a great opportunity for us to do something a little different instead of just following the crowd.

Not sure NT government would be any happier than the SA government about spreading infections from Victoria.

The problem is the infections in Victoria not SA, WA or NT for that matter.

Yet the AFL want things to be based in Melbourne... Yet say they have public & player safety at heart.

I still feel like with the right testing, isolation methods and restrictions placed on the players and staff, this could easily be achieved, and at the same time it would be great marketing for NT once the borders are opened.

Worse, they want to be seen as leaders in the covid safety sphere. Laughable.

The AFL has little consideration for anything outside the Vic borders, their behaviours have shown that.

Wasn't it the NT government spruiking the NT as a hub because they would allow crowds to matches?
They were - hence the reason I thought that this option might have some legs. It would be a brilliant outcome if we could be one of the few clubs to have an actual home ground advantage, plus potentially crowds as well.

I think what you say is around the mark
Very early on there was a lot of noise around the NT hosting matches and possibly a hub
I believe that came from an idea that everything wasn’t so Vic Centric
Well that was a pipe dream of course it’s Melbourne or nothing

I just don’t see it as a feasible option
Like SA & WA our borders are closed and at this time so they should be

There is a huge cost in flights
Accommodation that couldnt suit teams with Required space
Also interesting they are predicting a very hot and humid dry season

Without crowds it would be detrimental
The amount of Diji kids that want to be at a game would be painful
They would love to be involved.

I am in the park of not wanting this season at all the Vic bias is really grating on me
