Figures you pill-popping optimists would try to get your licks in. Yes, well done to our boys for scraping past the swans. But doubts were never about whether they could account for themselves during H&A games, as they already have. The fear is that they'll be just making up the numbers come finals time, and today's result does little to change that (although it is a step in the right direction). So celebrations are in order, but save your smugness and back-patting for when we're tearing the opposition a new back hatch in the finals, 'kay?

We DID kick over 100 though...that's the biggest positive to come out of today, performance-wise...

how will they be making up the numbers
the bulldogs are a genuine finals contender even if they lost to Geelong by so much, but the quality of the football is there
and why are you so negative when it is 'a step in the right direction'

GOOD LUCK TO YOU DOGGIE FANS!

I reckon more than half of the fair minded footy public an those that are NOT still wish you well!:thumbsu:

GREAT DEVELOPMENT but today your lads didn't play their best but credit they got over the line!

BUT WE are proud of our Swannies!!!!!!

U know the... never heard about youngsters fielded on the day etc!:thumbsu:

BF can be so naive... !!!!! and if /maybe they get a crack at you or others.... then FINALS!... different thing altogether!;)

Good win!!!!!!.... lucky we can't hit the side of a barn with a handfull of wheat!!!

Hello Corpussle,

To be fair you missed a few gimmies, thats for sure. Was a forgetable
game. We didn't play well & got over the line.

I know Sydney will be a hell of a lot better with Barry; Goodes & Mickey O
back.... No gloating from me!!!!!!!!

Hopefully we can get a couple of defenders back as well.

Good Luck for the rest of the year

Cheers

Good win by the Dogs, one of those workmanlike wins expected of a top side that's eyeing off bigger prizes later in the year.

Corpuscles does Ted Richards do things liek that everyweek? "by that I mean his poster from 2 metres out" What a frustrating player!!!!!!:eek:

I am extremely happy and will be even happier after one more win, or losses by Swans or Nth.

The finals are a whole new ball game and our position now gives us the double chance and it gives Eade the chance to plan, tinker and fine tune. He can also consider resting players and getting game time into players like Ward and Wight who we may need in September.

Woo hoo.

Yeah good win, well worth the drive down to canberra. Back to winning is all we can ask for, worry about finals in september and enjoy the wins along the way.

Well done, Doggies, for a quality game of football (even if we were on the wrong end of it).

Despite the odd clanger from both sides (again, us on the bad end), and despite the occasional whinging about the umpiring (plenty of times we've been on the end of a free kick count like that ;)), it was hard, contested football played in the right way and the proper spirit.

I think it's fair to say that most fans of the "other 13" are rooting for you guys come September (failing a miracle turnaround for their own clubs, of course).

And trublu: Generally, Teddy doesn't find himself taking too many shots at goal. I think the excitement must have got to him. Maybe he needs to have a word to the Advanced Medical Institute.

Hi FDOTM....:) Nice pwna3e....

Don't confuse doubt wit disappointment, Firstdog!

One assumes that the team may not be good enough, the other assumes the team is not playing to it's potential, I prescribe to the latter.

Are we playing like a top 4 side now? No.

Can we beat Geelong? F### yes!

You have got to remember he was taken as a delisted Essendon hack now a key part of the Swans team and asked to play KP forward and back to cover for missing players. He is becoming a star:thumbsu:

He doesn't get much opportinity to do that but it would be great if he did ... that way he would eventually learn and get more confidence.

Having said that... even in the 06 GF he made a critical error under pressure that might have been the difference on the day:eek:

Carbon copy of our earlier win against the swans - trampled in the first quarter, a game winning blitz in the second, then an arm wrestle in the 2nd half with the swans getting back a few goals towards the end but not enough.

can we have a report on how they played, for us who didnt see the game on tele or live

Aha! You are right of course. We are not playing like a top four side yet we are second and I agree with you anyway.

I can feel the fabric of space/time stretching.

Well happy as I am with the win we should have been beaten we can thank Sydneys easy misses from set shots.

Not to mention there 3 outs we were very lucky with many big name passengers we will get hammered in Spetember if this form line continues.

Four points is four points 3 of those easy shots and we would be in trouble

Offset and more by the umpiring. 27-15 and felt worse than that.

I was there. Aside from the second quarter, we were less than ordinary.

Can't believe how so many can be happy with a win like that.

And if we play like that in the finals, we'll lose both and that's that for this year.

The good thing is that we did play some good footy in the second quarter, not many teams can put 8 goals on the swans in a quarter.

In terms of september it did no damage, we all know that we aren't ready to go for september, we have a few weeks to get everything in order. Remember the swans are talked about as a potential top 4 side and we've had their measure twice now.

We were marginally better the first time, and this time we played them without Micky 'o, Barry and Goodes.

We should of won by more yes, there were various reasons why we didn't. All I'm saying is that the positives from the match outweigh the negatives. Go back 12 months to the same venue and tell me we are no better off. And in terms of the previous 2 losses to the Cats and Blues it was proof we haven't dropped the ball.

But surely any Bulldog supporter has to be extremely happy with the year that we have had so far. If you aren't, well that is a pity.

As to how we go in the finals......that is impossible to predict irrespective of how we are playing in round 18.

Enjoy the moment, think about how most of our pre-season's predictions have been proved wrong so far and as Teddy would say "Let's stick it up them".:thumbsu:

The fact that we were able to win the game was, to me, the most important aspect of the game. We were able to put a halt to the downward spiral that was the previous two weeks, which had some of us concerned that we could fall away similar to what we did last year.

I have probably changed my tune a bit from last week, however to be able to win that game from 24 points down shows steely resolve that I honestly thought we were lacking. Sure it was not pretty for most, however we are now firmly entrenched in 2nd or 3rd posi four weeks from the Finals which allows us to now regroup and focus all our attention on the 1st week in the finals.

OK, maybe the plane has pulled out of the dive and levelled out but IMO we have a long climb back up to make a dent on September. Doesn't help when key parts like Cooney and Hudson are looking like they've been serviced by Qantas.

No disputing that at all. There is a lot of improvement required, but also there is a lot of improvement left in the team.
