Every time you think the Eagles have bottomed out and in for an extended period in the bottom 4, somehow West Coast manage, through great recruiting and player development to prove the critics wrong.
They won the spoon last year and this year are a good chance to finish top 6, let alone top 4, After Judd and Cousins left, the Eagles struggled understandably for a few years, but now they have an fantastic young core, whom seem to have rejuvenated the veterans, Dean Cox has to be a massive brownlow chance, also Worsfold deserves massive kudos, his faith and unwavering commitment to rebuilding this club is fantastic

In b4 the tanking replies.

But seriously, great recruiting and unlimited resources due to us being a wealthy club go a long way.

I can see them win another flag within 2 or 3 years. I am glad the club didn't listen to media and fan pressure and sack Worsfold last year.

Money can't just be a factor, Adelaide and Essendon have just as much money, if not more then WCE but the Eagles have overtaken them,

Great club with a great culture

Good draw, no injuries and will be out week 1 if they make it.
Not sure about either of these.

It isn't a terrible draw but not great either.

As for the injuries, we have had an ok run but still some key outs in matches.

Definitely compared to last year or Fremantle this year we have had an ok run so far.

Combination of factors:
-Cox, Glass and Kerr are all injury free for the first time in ages and are playing to something close to their best form
-Mid-tier players like Embley, Lynch and Nicoski who seemed destined for the scrap heap are playing well above what they've been playing in the last few years
-Kids like Shuey, Naitanui, Kennedy and others have another pre-season under their belt and have improved

Improvement has been encouraging this year, but i'm not fooled as we still have a long way to go

No club has as much money has West Coast, not even Collingwood. West Coast made a $3 million dollar profit in a year where they won the spoon winning only four games. West Coast has made around $20 million profit over the last 7 year and has something like $25 million in cash, shares and property.

Its a combination of factors.

. Better preseason. No tennis balls.
. Veteran players are healthy.
. Midage players like LeCras and Kennedy are stepping up.
. Young kids have improved. More competition for places in general.
. Better gameplan.
. Less competition. Some of the teams have really fallen away this year.

On top of mentioned above, they actually have a pretty experienced starting 22 when all available. Should never have finished last in 2010 and it must be said their draw has been a big thing that has gone their way as well.

Certainly they are a proud club and professional is most of it. But Pick 3, 20 and Kennedy for Judd plus great picks that come from winning the spoon help. Kerr went missing, Cox back in town help also. But appears when the wheels fall off they really fall off and they then make the most of early picks.

We tend to really bottom out when we do, but not for any great length of time. (00-01 and 08-10)

Then we're the surprise finalists (02 and maybe 2011). Once we start winning, home ground advantage is often enough to get us close to finals, with a few wins on the road.

And a super professional club.

What impressed me more than anything was that during it all, the club was clearly trying to maintain that winning culture.

Even in 2009, during their down period, they finished the season strongly to rule out both a priority pick and a higher placing in the draft.

Then you compare that with other clubs (we know who they are) that "arguably" set out to lose games and seasons of football to get higher draft picks.

Respect, West Coast. Respect.

When you guys eventually get back up there and win another premiership, I'll be cheering you on. If these other unsaid clubs ever achieve that, they will have nothing but my contempt.
