So they didntlearn a thing after the pizza shop claim in SA last year which ended up being a security gusrd in hotel quarantine having 2 jobs and lying...

3 day snap lockdown cost millions.

What exactly were they supposed to learn?

That everyone is lying and every positive is probably a false negative. That would be so easy if they weren't contact tracing 10,000 people.

"Get open and stay open" are Dan Andrews exact words

So you were expecting no lockdowns ever again? Every state in the country (I think) has had a lockdown this year (Tassie doesn't count).

A lot of these immigrants work multiple jobs, get paid in cash and most likely wont tell you where thy have really been in order to save their jobs and not get their bosses in trouble. Not much anyone can do about people not being honest though.

Tassie doesn’t count…I did chuckle.😂

My expectation after being locked down for most of last year is that future lockdowns would be an absolute last resort and other options would be explored first.

Can you honestly say that this is the case? They went to Defcon4 before they even looked at other options.

Ah, so it's the immigrants fault. You running off the murdoch playbook?

Surely not?

Jeroen actually confirmed they knew on Tuesday?

Yep both the Brighton guy and lady at Mickleham knew Tuesday morning they were negative, then Jeroen admitted they new Wednesday morning before the press conference to announce the increased lock down that they were false positives and could not be confirmed as a positive until investigation, but clearly still ran with this narrative, now i'm sure if you ask Brett he will say he didn't see the e mail, but they knew, Jeroen also denied he said you could catch it walking past someone else on the street, something he clearly said when he used the words brushing past in his press conference.

Just listened to Prof Tony Blakely, and he said the infection rate at best is slightly more then the UK variant, and the fleeting contact line is more likely to do with Aerosol transmission like they have seen in hotel quarantine.

not at all, where did i say that?

Whats this then?

You think they are too proud now to back down and bring forward reopening?

That about covers it, yeah. I could well be wrong on that though.

And the thing is, they'd actually get a lot of public trust back if they were more flexible and not so stubborn.

It's okay to be wrong. It's okay to be cautious. But they need to have the courage to walk that position back once they know it is unnecessary.

Once two football matches were exposure sites, we were f'd. People from all over the state in Public Transport, toilets, concourses, bars. They had all their postcodes which would have been all over the state. With a 14 day incubation period, some of these people might still be a chance to test positive.

I'm surprised all lockdowns aren't 2 weeks by default. One week is never going to be enough, unless it's a very small number of close transmissions. Once there are packed bars and football matches, you can cross off 2 weeks from your calendar.

Whats this then?

I read it that you can't blame anyone (including the government) if people aren't forthcoming with information. I'm not for the (possible) racial nature of the post but I don't think it was pointing the finger at the powers that be.

I think the bolded is a good point. I also think that is where they lose the public. Don't sell something as one week when you know very well that it won't be.

In my opinion this lockdown is unnecessary but that said, the element of this that annoys me the most is that I cannot take what is being communicated at face value.

Do you actually have any faith that we will be out of this next week given that they extended this one and have a track record of not being forthcoming with their plans? If so, on what basis? Merlino and Sutton are both on record as saying that we will not reopen until this outbreak has been "run to ground." That statement alone has me mentally prepared for a minimum 4-6 weeks of lockdown because we will not be at zero cases by next week.

Ghost, there is a happy medium between outright racism and xenophobia, and being able to acknowledge that the circumstances of some immigrants (which are not their fault, they’re sad circumstances) do mean that behaviour more likely to risk super spreading individuals occurs in higher concentrations.

They’re more likely to be in lower paid work, with worse conditions and bosses probably more likely to cut corners on safety and also bosses more likely to turf them out of their jobs on a whim. They’re also more likely to live in bigger households.

None of this is controversial. It’s not the immigrants’ fault, as said it’s a sad failure of our society in a lot of ways. But it is an extra public health challenge in a time like this.

That's where this is going though, same crap they were saying last time.

He's just parroting Sky news with the immigrant stuff, probably doesn't know any better.

Same guy is going into bat for Harvey Norman in another thread.

Well a lot of them are different people (Foley and Merlino) and if anything they're being more conservative.

Just like the first lockdown, I'm waiting to hear what people would have done differently.

Complaining about actions without offering an alternative is pointless whining.

What i would have done here, and this is just a couple of things, and no they aren't all perfect but at least try something, and i'm sure more can be added to it.

> Mask mandatory in all indoor settings or where you cannot social distance safely.
> Change density limits in all closed spaces to a 1 to 2sqm limit
> Sporting events, crowds at 50% at best, all wearing masks, timed arrival to games , lots of things can be done here.
> Offices limited to same rule as cafes, lessens the requirement of public transport usage.
> When visiting shops or cafes, 10km limit from home, this would also support local businesses.

The last one and the most important, any ****er who should be isolating and in quarantine and breaks this rule, 10k fine no questions asked.

Do you think they should just throw out medical advice and make political decisions based on economy and social media nuffies?
Absolutely base some off the economy. Or you end up like L.A. They should adjust restrictions, keep masks indoors, indoor number caps, sanitise and QR code and let people who want/need to work actually work and keep there businesses and households afloat. High risk households can stay at home and get job keeper until there vaccinated, everyone else should be given the choice to work at there own risk.

I'm not saying they shouldn't adjust settings. Economy is red herring, the feds have unlimited supply of money for their mates with no strings attached.

I expect them not to lie if they know cases have already been cleared.
Trioli went appropriately hard on jerome this morning on abc
