You are making the assumption that are little regard to anything else. Targeting 0 cases (without universal availability of vaccines) is the only strategy that been demonstrated to be reliably successful.

But it is a fact that every single state border in Australia is closed to Victoria right now and will continue to be closed until this outbreak is shut down. That is something that you have to fix or Victoria gets massively left behind.

• Hotel quarantine is still not nationally standardised. This shutdown is a direct result of failures in Adelaide in a hotel that was know to be a weak link. And Victoria has paid the price for that.
• Quarantine should not be in hotels at all
• There is still no national standard for closing borders
• There is no national standard for opening borders
• Vaccination is way behind schedule

None of the above issues are in the control of the Victorian Government or the Health Department or contact tracers.

Whilst the quality of journalism in this country is generally poor, there are some good reporters out there who ask some outstanding questions. Baxendale is not one of them and has been using these daily briefings only to grandstand and push her (or possibly little Timmy Smith's) agenda.

Baxendale would be best served spending her time on things she is actually good at. Cooking transcripts, such as she did with one particular Dan Andrews press conference last year is more her area of expertise. Baxendale is an acknowledged expert at that. She can make a point by altering the words spoken by others unlike anyone I have ever seen. It's truly magnificent how she does it, without a hint of shame or journalistic ethics.

EDIT - Sorry andrewmillman I was going to add this. This was doctored and Baxendale's journalistic integrity evaporated the moment she published it.

They’ve said today they are keeping heavy restrictions in place because they can’t link all of the cases. Those unlinked cases are the ones from the Victorian hotel quarantine so it’s absolutely extending the lockdown.

Hotel quarantine clearly does not work and the Victorian State Government should just refuse to do it rather than continuing to put all Victorians at risk in order to allow a small minority to come and go from the country.

At no point did they give any of the horrid rumours any life, in fact, even defended Andrews.

And everything I have seen of O'Brien has shown him to be a moron, I would trust him as far as i could throw him.

The other 3 you are spot on with, however with all states wanting to do it their own way, and playing party lines, no way anything will ever be agreed on, and that is why i dislike all politicians, this is something they should have all worked on together, not only your own states interests.

Sure but places like regional Victoria haven't had a case since January and should be back to pre lockdown rules. Same as places like the Mornington Penninsula or even the outer eastern suburbs if there is no cases near them

If fact you could probably use the 10km or 25km rules more effectively by using it to define the rule settings. If councils have no cases or exposures sites within that limit you should be able to open up further
