I don’t think most of those obsessed with the vaccine understand this at all. They think the vaccine is a magic cure and they can return to a normal life again as soon as they’ve had it.

It’s the fault of governments and opposition who’ve been pushing this vaccine like crazy as the holy grail. They don’t understand it’s not like a vaccine that protects you but more a flu shot that might reduce its impact.
That’s not true at all. At the first press conferences announcing the vaccine the CHO said it would not stop you from getting covid or spreading it, it would only lessen the symptoms. I’ve heard that repeated many times. He also said restrictions such as travel and quarantine would remain at least until enough people were vaccinated. I think they want close to 80% uptake.

Nothing that I saw. This won't replace HQ either - they are talking a maximum capacity of 1000 people (which is less than a week's worth of Vic intact, at the reduced level)

There is nothing to replace. VIC quarantine is currently zero (0) and is likely to remain so for a while. The other states will have to do the hard yards.

From last night's 7.30 report there was one guy who went to Scotland because his Mother was on her deathbed. The poor bastard didn't make it in time. To get back here he had to pay $20,000 for business class and HQ. Another guy was critically ill so went to UK to say his last goodbyes. He's been booked on four different flights to get back here that have all been cancelled.

A bespoke facility should be able to do much better than the dog's breakfast that is Victorian hotel quarantine.

A bespoke facility? See you in 18 months

In b4 student free day for public schools on Thursday! You know.. Dan needs to give the teachers a day to get organised with the kids at home.

This is one way to dumb down the population so the young will still believe the left wing socialist cr@p.. just lock them out of school endlessly..

Finding live-in staff might be a problem. Even jail wardens get to go home each night (or morning). FIFO is a tough gig and miners get paid well. How much realistically would you pay a live-in cleaner?

Weren't they getting paid around $100,000 up north of WA during the mining boom? It sounds expensive but you offset that against the cost of shutting down the state for 5 days.

It's a hyper infectious virus moving at hyper speed!
Yet out of all the close contacts that have been traced we have barely seen any positive cases.

Would have thought we would have hundreds of positive tests coming out the way Andrew’s talks about this UK strain. This particular variant must be on holidays.

You said a simple fence would control things and noone would jump over it for KFC.

I said we have had that happen already multiple.times (Inc one where some one smuggled in a PS4)

You're naive if you think people will politely sit behind the fence and that's that.

Would you feel better if they put barbed wire on top of the fence? Maybe drone surveillance? Snipers in trees?

Weren't you only a few posts ago telling us about it's impossible to be 100% safe and risk management?

24,000 tests and 2 positives. I would like to see the 'UK strain' evaluated again. Maybe it's less infectious.

I think if you want to improve this more than HQ does it, you need to eliminate (or minimise) the risk factors HQ has

They are:

- staff living in the community
- transmission via air con and hallways

That means move 100% of it (not just 1000 beds) away from ANY urban centre, and ideally on a location that is not accessible to the public.

Id look at moving them onto military bases. Security is already in place. They will have some onsite medical teams already. Places like Puka are isolated, so no incentive to do a runner.

Won't happen though because of the feds. Whatever change is made I'll be stunned if the feds agree to be involved

All could be risk managed from a facility at Avalon. Your objection seemed to be that inmates would climb fences and walk a couple of hours to get chicken nuggets. It's nonsense.

12 close contacts of cafe worker working side by side for 12 hours. Zero cases, yet we were locked down because they feared the customers were all infected...

Avalon is far enough away and there's only two/three roads in and out of town. Any ped trying to cross the freeway will be spotted in two seconds.

If it's on Avalon land, it's already got airside security protocols in place (kangaroos and people can't just jump a little fence and bound across runways.

A lot of those roads in the treatment plant also already have gates which can be converted to checkpoints, or just locked. There's very little chance of people driving around and picking people up or dropping stuff off against the rules. It's not risk-free, but it's more than enough.

How many times in this thread are you going to demonstrate to us how out of your depth you are?

How many times are you going to post like an hysterical teenager?

How many times do you need to be told by me and others that military bases aren't suitable?

In the grand scheme of things, security is easy if you're building your own place, you can have all the cameras you want, where ever you want along with motion detectors if you really want them.

You talk about minimising risk in your first sentence and then in the 2nd last you're talking about Puckapunyal. How do you get them there from the international airport in Melbourne? Bus them is my guess, so now you've introduced the risk of the bus trip from the airport 100km up the Hume. Where do they sleep at Puckapunyal? It would be in tents, what ablutions do they use, does each tent have an ensuite?

You're turning it from a pretty simple exercise at Avalon where they can fly straight in and they stay there to one that involves a lot more moving parts.

Yes there are a lot of details that will have to be fleshed out, staffing being the main one, but the major infrastructure is already in place.

Puckapunyal is 10km from Seymour, a 1 1/2 to 2 hour walk away.

It's almost as if your posting lacks any sort of imagination at all.

Classic case of the Govt that becomes unelectable (see Turnbull) but still wins.

The difference is that if I ran a business and Turnbull asked to be the manager, I reckon I'd happily have him (though I'm sure I couldn't afford him).

Somebody like Newbury, Smith or Morrison I wouldn't let be the janitor. The LNP Govt Sacked Morrison themselves from his job at Tourism, yet they've selected him as PM.

There's unelectable, then there's non-functional.

Dan is no hope, read the room sporto.
Lol!
A massive majority, a useless and unlikeable opposition, 70% approval rating and an almost unheard of 58% two party preferred lead.

Forget the half dozen 4channers in here friend.
The silent majority will continue to speak.

Enjoy the next three terms of DAN!

You are wasting your breath. Someone is wrong - on the internet.

It would be interesting to see what it is after the latest lockdown. You will think that those numbers would take some sort of hit.

If the Libs are still at 42% they might as well pack up and leave the state, they won't be coming back for a numbers of terms
