The next question will then be what other groups could be used to put separate orders on. Could they use this to put different rules on political parties, nationalities, religious groups?

I imagine there'd be other laws that conflict greatly with that.
As an action of good faith (and curiosty), I just emailed my local state MP on this to find out his thoughts on your question on this legislation.

Thanks would be interested to know the answer.
It is fine thinking Andrews would never use it but what would happen if say Tim Smith is in charge and thinks Sudanese gangs are an issue (not like they haven't thought that before). Could he then declare a pandemic and then lock them in there homes for 3 months? Extreme sure, but it would be interesting to know what the limits are

Why's that amusing?

Partly because they keep getting their info from the same dodgy sources that are constantly getting debunked. Herald Sun, for example.

Can't really help them with that part, might as well have a laugh.

Here's the important bit of context they are missing.

Shannon Deery gets pretty good mail mate. Not sure he’s the worst person to quote on here. He’s certainly not anti-dan

So you're saying that the state political editor for the Herald Sun isn't biased?

He had you freaking out on the last page or two, it took some randoms on BF to give it context.

The herald sun has been deplorable, not going to deny that.
But hes not exactly giving an opinion on this matter in the tweets I was sending.

Im not the smartest guy on here, far from it, if someone gives me context, I consider that a win!

This part of the tweet is his 'opinion', which he presents without appropriate context. It's carefully worded scaremongering.

A political editor should be doing much better than this.

I'm interested to know what is in the bill. That bit of information you provided, who do you think would appoint that oversight committee? Also they can review these orders but are they able to make changes to it?

Also curious about the oversight and review from human rights experts and what this means.

Not sure, but if it's independent then it shouldn't have political bias.

I'd think that any orders would be put to them for approval before being implemented, or next business day (or 48 hours, for example) if it's a proper emergency where orders are rushed through asap.

See my edit above 😬

Fair enough.

Honestly, some people think he's a troll, but PRGuy is one of the best I have seen at cutting through the MSM political bias and scaremongering crap.

There's good reason why one side of politics in particular hate him. He's like Yoda, brings balance to the force.

I quote the media a lot, yet I keep saying they’ve been disgraceful this whole pandemic 🤣🤣 go figure!

What sort of input are human rights stakeholders going to have?

Supporter Samantha Ratnam, the Victorian Greens leader, says the minister's decisions will be reviewed by an independent panel including human rights experts

It will be interesting how this is worded. If they say it breaches human rights can it be rejected or do they have no powers at all and there is just a record that they disagree with it.
I think there are issues either way. If it is toothless then a government can just ignore it anyway. If it has power to reject it then it is giving power to an elected body and not that far off a CHO giving orders

i think that means that they will be able to target specific groups - say unvaccinated people, or cultural groups which consistently don't follow orders and removing the equal opportunity act protection

Its probably aimed at the unvaccinated and removing an ability for the unvaax to make a challenge.

the opposition tweet it correct and I hope that the private members bill (if correctly described) gets up. Transparency does need to be much better.

Sometimes it's more amusing to just sit back and watch people freak out.
The hysteria around the proposed changes to the Public Health Act is absurd.

It is quite depressing to see how gullible people and be manipulated and whipped up into a frenzy by the media over absolutely nothing. The "Dictator Dan!" stuff is absolute toxic bullshit. That is how you end up with the Red Hats storming the capitol on January 6.

Honestly if you're not starting to question his motives and desire for power I don't know what's wrong with you.

How can in the year 2021 somebody have so much power over so many people and we just sit back and take every punch whilst not having the ability to defend ourselves in any possible way.

Please, stop this absolute madness.
You do understand the concept of a ‘representative democracy’ don’t you??

there are reasonable questions about the duration and extent of pandemic powers, particularly as vaccination numbers rise to high levels
the pandemic powers don't appear to be subject to parlimentary oversight and reporting currently
yes independent body is good, will their transcripts be released to public to examine?

A lot of people don't know what trolling is.

PropagandaGuy17 gives the Danstanders their daily talking points. It tells you what TeamDan does want to talk about, so you can quickly work out what it is they don't want to talk about – so in that sense I guess it is informative, but not otherwise.

To the rest of us it is spam.

Pandemic legislation that allows for "classing" based on vaccination status or medical condition, fine. Anything other type of "class" is irrelevant to the purpose of the legislation, and unnecessary.

Trust any politician or bureaucrat with that? No thanks. Disaster Dan? Brown-fingers Dan? Sneaky, dissembling, inept, incompetent Denial Andrews? No way!
