Cant be true, can it?

I mean it was only a few days ago we had the fear mongers on this thread telling us the Omicron variant was just as severe as Delta!

Doesn’t matter how many times they’re told, they’ll keep ignoring and spreading the fear.

What? There are actually people out there who still obey speed limits? Really? 😲
Just guides aren't they

Speed limits is an interesting analogy. If they go back to full lockdown with masks everywhere including outdoors, it would be like changing a quiet country road back from 100 to 40. It would be ridiculous and no one would obey it.
Change it back to 80 though because there may be some extra dangers on the road and most people would be more likely to follow. The same with some sensible restrictions

The NSW idea of handing out free rapid antigen tests needs to be adopted in Vic

we currently have shortages of these kits. unless we are getting big imports, there isnt much point doing this yet

And this is where it is ******* nuts, you go to the test at the G, sitting at your seat = no mask, get up to get a drink or have a piss =mask.

I believe there are no more zones at stadiums in Victoria as per what someone told me who works in the mcc (but I could be wrong). So maybe that’s why (as you can now walk wherever you want).

Feels like a 'seen to be doing something' sort of announcement, when the settings they already have in place are appropriate.
i dont think the settings they had in place were appropriate given the wide ranging calls from experts to make changes

going for the absolute bare minimum though

So you can sit near a total stranger and not need a mask, but if you stand in the same line buying a beer you need a mask.

exactly if they dont track cases they have no context for the numbers they are really worried about, ie hospitalisations, ICU, ventilators and deaths

if Omicron turns out to have a much lower hospitalisation rate then we can deal with higher cases in the community before needing to put the brakes on, but its not likely to be zero with how under resourced our health systems are

still early, but the nsw data seems to be responding to the increase in positives

Yes. I went to two chemists this morning to buy a pack of 10. First one sold out. 2nd one only had the saliva kit, and had sold out of the nasal kits

Well id assume your seats can be tracked in terms of close contacts but not if you go and mix with numerous other people in toilet or bar.

If your indoors at any hospitality venue and there is an infected person there, you'll be a close contact regardless of where you were sitting/standing or whether you walked in with a mask and took it off only when you sat down to eat or drink/ or put it on when ordering at the bar. In my view it's pointless tinkering to be seen to be doing something.

It just adds another layer of compliance to deal with for hospitality, and disincentive for patrons to go out, for a benefit that is at best, marginal in those venues.

Whilst I agree mate, I’m happy to wear a mask to a toilet/bar if it means my life remains normal. Nobody is going to police it in a restaurant / bar anyway. It’ll be more so sporting stadiums that will.

It appears the severity is lower, but the infection rate is much higher for Omicron, thus even a lessened severity could well still see a wave of sickness & hospitalisations. We have no idea of any possible longer term cardio-respiratory implications. So still being at least a little careful is warranted.
Masking indoors is a small price to pay I'd have thought. Some here have criticised the Premiers mask mandate. i think it a sensible & prudent step. Certainly more so than NSW & Federal happy clapper led 'recovery'. (Let us pray)
