The following is a paraphrased exchange from 3AW's preview of the Hawthorn-Carlton game:

Robert Walls: " Fifteen Gerard, which they won't get because they will play their little chip, chip pretty football across the half back line and get nowhere. Carlton are a hard running direct side who will push the ball up the corridor and continue their high scoring run."

This is just one example why Walls is a complete fraud and has been for many years. His lack of preperation is blindingly evident week in, week out and the regard that many in the footy public hold him in is a constant source of bewilderment. If the listening/viewing/reading public where a little more discerning/knowledgeable, RW would be gone now.

Yes, that is a concern for me as well. Where are the performance standards for "journalists"? Some of these guys have hung around in the media for 20-30 years, contributing very little and hanging onto outdated ideas that were buried 15 years ago.

Sam Newman is a classic example. He doesn't know the players nor understand the modern game, and yet he still forges a handsome salary from the game. His comments are laughable at best, he clearly doesn't spend any time at all studying the game.

Rex Hunt was a novelty 25 years ago, and therefore amusing and somewhat entertaining., These days he's just a pain in the @rse, nothing more, nothing less. You hear the same old crap week in week out with him, he's still doing the same old stale jokes he was in 1980!!!

There is far too much dead wood, too many parasites sponging from the game, and we've reached the point where we need a massive cleanout.

Well, you can count the "great callers" on one hand. We need to find new ones. A good caller is not necessarily someone who screams their **** off, or cracks jokes all the time, they need to be able to paint a picture for the listener so we can imagine what is happening. Not many of those around.

Clinton Grybas is a very good caller.
