Indeed he did break his ribs according to the Rnd 7 medical room report.
If only his hammies had the same miraculous regenerative powers.

Medical Room Update - Monday 15th May

Bailey Smith (hair).

Bailey Smith was sent for precautionary scans on Sunday after copping a solid hair pulling during the weekend. Scans revealed the loss of seven luxuriant strands of golden fleece and some localised minor root damage, however, no entanglements or split ends were detected.

Bailey was able to toss and swish fluidly without discomfort after the game. As a precaution we've put his hair on a course of Manuka honey conditioner and offered Bailey counselling. His hair will be assessed during the week but at this stage we expect it to make a full recovery and be available for selection this weekend against the Crows in Ballarat.

Latest from Med Rm

Josh Bruce (ribs) – test
Harvey Gallagher (hamstring) – test
Adam Treloar (hamstring) – 1-2 weeks
Dom Bedendo (groin) – 4-5 weeks
Roarke Smith (foot) – 3-5 weeks
Riley Garcia (groin) – 3-5 weeks
Sam Darcy (lung) - TBC

Are you able to expand on this diagnosis, What causes a small hole on the lung?
Really concerned for Sam, what sort of time frame to naturally heal?

There may have been a tiny weak patch in his lung that has given out under air pressure. He'd have had heaps of medical screenings so it'd be very unlikely to be secondary to any kind of long-term lung disease. For a small pneumothorax, rest and maybe some supplemental oxygen should let it heal over naturally, maybe over a month or so.

Happens most in smokers. Bloody hope Sam isn't and it was just a fluke that was contributed to by his body type.

(Not a doctor, just have a big interest in emergency medicine and listen to a lot of podcasts and read a lot about it.)

Agreed - they might as well put available next to his name given the VFL have a bye this week, so it'll be good to see him in under 2 weeks time.
Seriously? Again?

What the **** is the VFL fixture?

It’s a joke, it’s quite likely when Tassie join and presumably their 2s join the VFL like the other eastern states were only going to have 4 clubs out of a 19 team league playing in a different seconds league. At that point we really need to consider the benefits of a national 2nds competition where byes mirror the AFL side and every team faces off against same opposition in seniors & 2nds ie if we’re playing WC away our 2nds play WC

It’s frustrating when finals come round and some teams have the bonus of their 2s still playing and keeping in form and others don’t. Not really sure about a solution here though? Realistically clubs should probably be setting up their own seconds practise matches with other finalists

Man Bedendos year is just a write off, has not moved in weeks and still 4-5 away,

Real shame
I wouldn't take any note of those updates. Geelong's approach is the best and I feel most teams will move towards their style of grading the severity of injuries. It's simple and it doesn't require a time frame. It avoids the unnecessary false hope too which is important.

Smith, Bedendo and Garcia have made next to no progress for a month now. If we decide to have heavy list turnover this year, Smith is all but guaranteed to be gone, and Bendendo would want to produce some decent form in the VFL on his return as Bigfooty hype won’t be enough to get re-signed

OP is a tricky one to accurately set a timeframe for. Really unfortunate for him, but taking a longer term view is more important for an injury like this.

I notice Chris Bell is silent about Bontempelli. Hard to know what to make of that. Is no news good news, or are they just keeping it under wraps? I'm assuming he plays but maybe not quite 100% fit.

Also didn't English spend time off the ground getting treatment in the second half? Anyone know what that was for?
