Is Josh Kennedy the best tall forward in the game?

Franklin has 300 more goals than JK and only a year older...Discussion over.

NO one outside of west coast fans will remember kennedy in 20 years time
Conveniently failing to address the point of the thread, which was that he is currently the best, nobody ever said kennedy has had the better career.
Also conveniently failing to address that buddy has played in 64 more games, the equivalent of pretty much 3 full seasons, also having the luxury of playing in finals teams 10/13 years, compared to kennedy's 4/12 years.

You're making a reasoned argument to someone that two posts ago said 'no one will remember who he was in 20 years' and when someone brought up Sumich, he said that Sumich wasn't an all time great.

The dude clearly has some irrational hate toward West Coast (see: Nic Nat thread).
Stalker much....kennedy is an extremeley talented player...however he is in the gherig bracket whereas buddy is in ablett, dunstall and lockett bracket.

Kennedy is the best full forward in the league, unfortunately there are not many true ff left. Nearly an obsolete position now

When is Franklin winning his Brownlow then? Lockett kicked 127 goals in 17 games in 91 in a shit team. When has Buddy had a shit team around him? Reckon he would be lucky to get 50 goals in a bad team. Franklin is nowhere near comparable to Lockett nor Ablett nor Dunstall for that matter.

Who was better in '96? Dunstall or Carey? Because that's basically the argument you're all having here.

Josh Kennedy averages about 60-70 handballs a season. Franklin often gets to about 130-150. One is a half-forward involved in midfield play, one isn't.

The astonishing bit is that Franklin comes close to (and sometimes wins) Coleman medals from a half-forward position. He has no right to do that. Carey didn't. He shouldn't even be close.

Your kidding, buddy will piss 1000 goals in, no player will ever do that again. That puts him right in the conversation with legends like lockett etc..

People i think often look at the numbers of goals kicked by players in the past and think it is comparable to todays game. Multiple players kicking the tonne in a single season was quite common in decades gone past but a single player bringing the tonne up is incredibly rare.

Does this mean that past key forwards were incredibly more talented than todays players or just purely the fact it was easier to kick goals back then than it is now.

Anyone who says that buddys career doesnt deserve to be mentioned with legends is having a lend

Buddy has kicked 846 being the main man his whole career. Nick Riewoldt has kicked 715 despite being second fiddle to Gehrig and others his entire career. It is not hard to kick goals these days. Heck Roo could have kicked 1000 too probably.

Lockett however made a poor team relevant, pissed off the people of Sydney by trying to kill the cheer squad and Peter Caven too and then saluting the crowd and then had them forget Peter Caven even existed.

Franklin pissed off nobody but North Melbourne fans and Hawthorn became a better team when Buddy left them. Even you can see that. Not sure we or Hawthorn or Geelong became instantly better due to the departure or retirement of our legends.

As for Ablett senior, the man stood 185cm tall and could do anything, Buddy is 199cm, imagine Ablett at the same height, the man would have been invincible given what he got out of a body just over 6ft tall. 3 straight Coleman medals in an era of big forwards is pretty damn impressive. All Australian captain, Norm Smith medallist, his accolades are endless. AFL team of the century even.

Back then too defenders could scrag, push, punch, molest, heck even pinch their opponents and given these guys also played on sodden fields with the same football pretty much the whole game, soaked and rock hard from the rain they all did very very well.

Give Buddy the same football to kick the whole game, give him a mud paddock to run around in like Moorabbin and see if he can kick as many as Plugger there. Tony kicked 329 of them at that ground.

No one is arguing he has had a better career than Buddy, they're arguing that he is better right now so having more goals career wise is irrelevant.

The second thing you said is just dumb...

Lol Gehrig was the saints full forward for 5 years, Riewoldt is playing his 17th year at the club, but spent it being second fiddle. i mean the rest of this is drivvle anyway but at least know your own club

Yes Riewoldt has been a full forward since 2008? ok then :drunk: You clearly dont even watch us when we are playing your mob either.

Drop the pipe man.

A full forward who never ever roamed outside the 50 to take marks few others would even try to take....

Funny how you all rate Buddy as good as Plugger and Dunstall and Ablett despite the fact he cannot take an overhead mark anytime regularly.....shit even our spud on one good knee can take those ;)

Then again who cares about the thoughts of umpire whining hypocrites right?

Boo Plugger for trying to kill people then forget all about his sins the moment he joins you just like you boo bad umpiring decisions that are made against you but ignore the bad ones that are for your club hey.

Probably a Roosters and Golden State fan too huh.

We get it, Kennedy sucks, in fact Buddy is the greatest player in the history of the game and ever will be. Moron.

Wow ablett was 185cm amazing!!..name another 199-200cm player who has or can do what buddy can?

Buddy is a 6"6 half forward hence the poor marking

Kennedy doesnt suck...he is a very good footballer, but he isnt as good as buddy

We get it, Buddy is the greatest there ever was. Cool now? :p

Buddy can't even beat Alex Rance and shit even a man who tried to light up a dwarf caught him ball and all. Can't mark overhead with any reliability, his former team won 3 in a row....after he left and he will be chewing up your cap when he is retired too probably.

Then again I understand, when your only other forwards of note are Sam Reid and Money Tippett Buddy would look very very good in comparison :D

Tell us more about the big fish st kilda have landed?

Tell us more about the big fish st kilda have landed?

Haha not going down that path again, a 1 day ban was bad enough :p

Look, Buddy is a great player, we get it, but heck we don't have the cap space to attract two, even if one is a superstar and the other a potato. But it is undeniable Hawthorn became better, successful and more unpredictable after he left. Not sure the Cats were better after senior retired.

However Hamill left Carlton to join us, Gehrig did the same and kicked 100 in a season. We unfortunately do not have our choice of any forward we want in the country though that is good and bad. Bradshaw and Tippett have not exactly been world beaters.

I have gone on record as saying even without certain advantages your mob would still be successful, it is a shame it has taken until this season to prove that true so best of luck for the rest of the season. Certainly after round 6 it looked like your players believed that money talked more then skill. I am glad they have found their belief that they are good enough. So good luck next week and the finals beyond.

We all have an opinion, not everyone is gonna agree with it so let's just move on, just like Jordan vs Lebron nobody is ever going to be able to categorically say one player was better then another of a different era. So this is pointless.

RE: Kennedy vs Franklin though, given the money they are on would I rather have two Kennedys for the same price or one Buddy? Answer is real easy on that one.

Good post...in reality if kennedy were to change clubs, his price would likelu jump aswell....Not trying to start a shit fight and go for tit for tat, but id argue that buddy brings more money into the swans than kennedy does into west coast.

Since his arrival, our membership has skyrocketed and we have landed club record sponsorships

As has Lockett, and Buddy and Lockett could have not kicked a single goal and you would have reaped the benefits from their name recognition.

Buddy would bring in more, but West Coast also have like 70,000 members and waiting lists for memberships so pretty sure they have enough money hahahaha :p

Two Kennedys though in your forward line, with another Kennedy kicking it from the midfield would make your forward line elite, and more importantly Tippett less too :D

Humungous game from kennedy yesterday, never would i think he would reach such dizzying heights as 9 disposals

This might possibly be your stupidest statement, which is saying something given your long posting history.

Forward gets 4 goals but only 9 possessions, bad game.

This is like saying because Josh P. Kennedy had zero hit outs on Friday night he also had a terrible game.
