Diaspora Jewish leaders' efforts to support Israel must be acknowledged

"President Herzog chose these leaders for their unwavering commitment to Israel and their exceptional support of the Jewish people over decades of endeavors."

The Diaspora leaders honored by President Isaac Herzog on Wednesday evening for their contribution to the State of Israel and the Jewish people deserve our recognition and thanks. They not only serve as role models for others, but are representative of the many exemplary figures in the Diaspora doing invaluable work for the Jewish nation.

  • Mark Leibler (Australia): A leading attorney and prominent Jewish community leader in Australia, Leibler has spent decades working to strengthen the Australia-Israel friendship. He has combated antisemitism and anti-Israel sentiment, defended Israel’s global reputation, opposed boycotts, and supported Jewish communities. He has also been an active figure in the Jewish Agency for Israel and Keren Hayesod.
  • Sir Frank Lowy (Australia/Israel): A Holocaust survivor and veteran of Israel’s War of Independence, Lowy has become a prominent philanthropist who has significantly impacted Israeli society. His contributions span health, education, and social welfare, and he has worked to foster Israeli-Australian relations while supporting vital initiatives, including the National Library in Jerusalem.

The IDF says it has struck several Hezbollah targets tonight, including a rocket launcher, an unspecified military site, and “routes along the Syria-Lebanon border used to smuggle weapons to Hezbollah.”

The military says that before the strikes, it made the threats known to an international mechanism set up as part of the ongoing ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah, but “the threats weren’t addressed.”

“The IDF continues to act to remove any threat to the State of Israel and will operate to prevent any attempt by Hezbollah to rebuild its forces in accordance with the ceasefire understandings,” the IDF adds.

'The Jewish Council is disappointed in conspiratorial comments from many people in response to the recent antisemitic vandalism at two synagogues in Sydney. Regardless of who the perpetrators are the act of graffitiing synagogues with swastikas is a clear act of antisemitism.

Antisemitism along with Islamophobia, anti-Palestinian racism and other forms of racism, is clearly a major issue in Australian society. This means that:

1. all people who are against racism should stand with empathy and solidarity with the victims of these racist attacks

2. comments such as 'they did it to themselves' should be called out as antisemitic conspiracy theories. Imply that all Jews act together as one to deceive people is a common antisemitic trope propagated by the far right.

We thank our Muslim and Palestinian partners for sharing their solidarity and standing against all forms of racism. We also condemn those who are using these incidents to spread hate and stoke Islamophobia and anti-Palestinian racism."

So i'm Cathlophobic, which race am i racist against?

I dont think people should paint graffiti on walls for any reason. Why am I going to stand with people with empathy who I dont know? I dont see the connection. I've been overloaded with cornflaking and troping in the last year. For all the people who say that jewish australians dont necessarily support what israel is doing, they fail to acknowledge that a significant portion of jewish australians do support that country. If I was going to be stupid enough to tar every jewish australian with the same opinion, why would I give a random one my empathy simply because they were the victim of graffiti?

I posted something earlier where two prominent jewish australians have been given awards by the israeli gov't. If either of those two got some decorations on their front fence, you wont see any solidarity from me.

john knows his stuff.

well ask him why gentiles are crawling over each other to get to the altar of netty and his mates. We know the answer for mark dreyfus...

Can any of the apologists answer why a gentile like dutton is crawling to israel? and explain it without cornflaking... or troping or antisemitism or any of the other words they like to use.

Is it simply because dutton likes to see palestinian children get murdered? Maybe the simplest answer is the best.

Apologies I haven’t read this thread, if this has already been shared, but if you’re interested in bringing war criminals to justice, it’s worth supporting The Hind Rajab Foundation.

They track down Israeli war criminals when they take a vacation from committing genocide and try to get them prosecuted.

Unfortunately Israel has been successful in pulling their war criminals out of countries before they face prosecution, but it’s something.

There’s a link below to the cause for anyone who wants to support an organisation trying to capture these criminals.

It's different. The recent history of anti-Semitism has been about genetics - belief has been irrelevant. In terms of Jews identifying or being identified as Jewish - belief is still irrelevant and frankly most anti-Semites don't know enough about Judaism to discriminate based on religion. It's culture or genetic based.

A photo Hind is to the left. Her story really illustrates just how murderous and callous the israelis are. Their piece de resistance was using a call for help by Hind to lure two ambulance drivers to their deaths. Apologists for israel will love the story....

But they also raised Islamophobia. So multiple races in that one.

You can get technical and argue that neither are racism based on the term race. You can even argue that terms like Paki and Dago aren't racist as Pakistani or Italian isn't a race - wog doesn't really describe a "race". I don't see the point though. It's all ascribing negative tropes to a categorised minority group and denigrating the entire group

With anti-Semitism however, it's 20th century history is pretty clearly racism. The Nazis cared about the bloodline - what they viewed as the Aryan Race, you didn't get a pass from the camps if you thought the Torah was garbage. Today people are considered Jewish based on genetic and cultural heritage rather than religious belief. If you are anti-Semitic, you're not hating people for religious belief - lots of Jews are athiests.

Much Islamophobia is really Arab racism as that's where the tropes tend to come from in Australia. Or in the UK it's Pakistani racism.

People condemn the murderous israelis and for some reason australian jews start talking about antisemitism. I dont see the connection. They are obvious two completely different tropes, arent they?

Of course the 1000 or so australian jews who went to israel to murder children may be multi-tropites
