We have gone to the draft for the last few years and the club thinks we are better with Rankine than taking another first rounder.. that is not to say we will not have some thing coming back our way.

Reid clearly said we need to evaluate what we have on our list which is fair we are three year in on the rebuild. Not sure how many year people expect a complete rebuild to take but we the youngest team in the comp and have some very promising players.. Rankine will add to this and is a potential game breaker. Back on home soil playing on Adelaide oval.. well let’s see.. next year we go for JHF or whatever the group decide but if we continue upwards the potential for attracting quality free agents becomes easier..

Champion teams win GFs that is what the coach and players need to build together. Build a core team with one mind and the rest will come together..

Who said this was a complete rebuild?

The club publicly declared we were going for a bit of a reset, and refresh.

You can’t avoid accountability by claiming a time line for a different sort of exercise.

The club declared at the end of last year the rebuild was over.

The plan was to hit the draft hard 3 times in 19,20,21 and then start to fill gaps with FA, which started with Dawson last year.

Claiming a rebuild is not a blank check for timelessness

Well it can’t be North who takes him, the AFL can’t allow an indigenous kid, allegedly fragile, to be sent involuntarily to Clarkson in the current climate

And Essendon will have to think carefully about it too.

All this fragile, won’t cope stuff can work in our favour
I think you're right with this.

North and West Coast would probably decide it's a bad look.

Essendon, with $3m in cap room and the public interest in him already? I think they may talk about how they've been a fantastic place for Indigenous footballers to succeed, and grab him.

Worse imo
Agree and Graham is only a B grader under a crap coach may regress to C grader. if he even goes there....

My bigger concern would be they hold 7, and we lose 5. that would be bad - still don't believe 5 is on the table personally

I think it's becoming clearer the club doesn't want to trade next year's first - so it will have to involve 5 somehow.

What’s becoming clear is you are spending a fair bit of time justifying using pick 5 after spending all your time leading up to Reid’s comments that it is a shit trade if it includes it

Considering how good Reid has been in negotiating most deals in the past, it would be shitful to give away 5 or more.

It'll be absolutely annoying to hear the media and other clubs' supporters saying "of course it was at least 5".
What’s the chances once the trade goes down you defend it? A bit like the Keath trade ;)
Didn’t take long

Didn’t even have to wait until the trade went down, it was only a matter of hours and based on a radio interview. Never change Kristof

I personally was prepared to give up our future first but not pick 5. Pick 5 I saw as a high end mid (possibly Phillipou) that we needed into our squad asap, rather than wait til next year.

Probably stemming from no confidence in getting JHF.

However, if Sloane and Walker both retire next year, that opens up a huge amount of money. Add to it Rankine's hugely front loaded year finishing. Seedsman likey would finish out his contract next year. I've always been sceptical that Crouch is on peanuts as well.

We then go into '23 trade period with a lot of money.

On the flip side, we need to give Fogarty more money, McAdam probably too, depending on his '23 season, same goes for Taylor. If Doedee takes over captaincy, he'll get a pay rise.

Whether I agree with it or not, I'm not sure but it looks like the club are prioritising keeping next year's first rounder and not because it's a better draft.

maybe its a switch of 5 for their 23/1 and we offer 3 picks next year for their points (eg pick for frampton plus our 2nd and 3rd)

It’s the Rankine thread, stay on point and TRY avoid the negative nostalgia

We have an applicant for the next Adelaide board moderator vacancy here folks...:D

If we could split 5 with Freo to get 13 and F1st then Gold Coast can use 13 to get Oliver Hollands keep the brothers together. It's a better option for them than pick 5 that in all likelihood will end up being a Vic metro kid who's going home. Plus a future 2nd to help match their academy kids next year.

Pick 5 is gone.. I, and a few other in here, have said it all along and it’s hilarious some have thought it wouldn’t be used.

it’s always been gone. It was always going to be used in this trade.

either that or our pick 1 in 2023 which will probably be better if we hold onto..

and Pick 5 for Izak Rankine is something we will all forget very quickly once we see him running around next season in crows colours kicking freakish goals.

I'm still hoping we get something decent back, but I'm not crying myself to sleep if we don't.

He never said pick 5 by itself

said it’s a nice pick

to me inferring he wants to get something back

i think we give future 3 rd and we get a second either this year or future

thats it

two seconds and few other picks if pan out may get us a mid first if we get a few deals done quickly

thinke rankine trade be done early then we get creative

or we invest more into next year

be assured we probably know jhf next year so loading up draft capital and freeing up huge cap space

they would have been in his ear before draft and told him scenarios

other would not have offered deal to north which they rejected lol

should have taken as will be a crow 2024

thats how I see it
