AFLW 2024 - Round 10 - Chat, game threads, injury lists, team lineups and more.
(If true) It’s drastic enough to be livid over when there were so many other options available to us, for an out of contract player, including simply sending them out next years 1st, which for me was a worst case scenario I’d accept.
We’ve already flagged we were keen to accelerate the rebuild by bringing in next years pick to this year. Handing over Pick 5 for, let’s face it, a player who by current output is not worth anything more than a mid to late first rounder, is massive overs. It’d be like GC asking for Pick 5 for an OOC Lukosius, who’s also had a similarly underwhelming start to his career. He’s just not worth it. If Rankine had the sort of start to his career that say Rachele has, and was OOC, then you’d say Rankine would be worth Pick 5 and possibly another late 1st/high 2nd, but he hasn’t.
If Reid has succumbed to AFL/Media pressure then he needs to go. Did the goods last year with Dawson but possibly doesn’t have the balls to back it up two years in a row. We look MILES behind Port in terms of our ambition/imagination when it comes to trading/list management.
You can see he’s tempering expectations in interviews as well, indicating that Rankine is our major priority, and we are focusing on us ‘exposing’ the list we currently already have to game time to build their experience.
We are far too conservative. We don’t want to risk trading/letting go any players who ‘might’ turn out half decent. We’re too scared to turn the list over a little with our youth and bring in experience, and now we’re left with a situation where we will be far younger as a squad going into next year.
IMO we need an experienced big bodied mid, outside run, competition on the wing and an experienced KPD to hold down a spot with Butts/Murray competing for the other.

Noble logic.Just let me activate Noble mode
The one good thing about just getting Rankine done, is that at least it frees up our time to be putting together an offer for JHF - just in case things get rocky between Port & North
/Noble
pick 5 is a massive overpay especially given how the pick could be used in the draft in getting what we desperately in a big body inside mid
Can Crows trade for excess draft picks if they only have 2 list spots open?Gc have a bunch of 3rds they probably won’t be able to use. If we could even get one of those when we need draft points, it’s actually embarrassing
Yes, but I think they can only bring into draft night picks matching the number of free list spots they have at the time. Can Crows trade for excess draft picks if they only have 2 list spots open?
No they extended the rookie list period so we can keep them there for another year.Yes, but I think they can only bring into draft night picks matching the number of free list spots they have at the time.
Not sure how the two rookies (Butts & ...?) they have to upgrade affects this though - whether they presumably need to have two list spots for them and hence hold 2 picks for those spots.
Wait they did? When?No they extended the rookie list period so we can keep them there for another year.
Have they? I recall something like this back when covid first came up and figured that on-the-fly change would have run out by now. Whether they upgrade Butts & Strachan this year (their 3rd rookie year) or next is going to cause headaches for list managemnt. No they extended the rookie list period so we can keep them there for another year.
I can't believe Butts is still on the rookie list when he is our starting full back.Have they? Butters is still unproven in the midfield and Rozee needs to bach up his 2nd half of 2012 until I am convincedYoure overestimating port
Their midfield will look good with rozee butters wines and JHF
BUT lycett dixon boak jonas all old and banged up with no clear replacements
Amon is gone and was their highest brownlow poller
They will lose significant depth in terms of recent first round picks most likely bergman and giorgiades plus their two firsts
Sinn looked a fair way off the cut...
I like the overall shape of our list now better than theirs - even though we have little draft capital right here right now
Thing I don’t understand.I understand the concern in giving up pick 5 for Izak however I am still hopeful that over time this deal can end up in the club's favour
In Rankine draft year he was considered a potential number 1 pick by many, his talent is unquestionable and he has some weapons that you just can't find in many AFL players except for the likes of Cyril, Betts and Bunji
At this stage of his career he has at times shown his class but lacked consistency however the small forward role at a struggling club is a challenging role to play early in your career.
Let's also not forget JHF has also struggled in his first year at a struggling club but no one has jumped off him at this stage
The combination of Rankine and Rachele splitting time between forward and midfield is a unique dynamic that if it clicks and both players reach their talent potential could end up being a bit of a masterstroke
I'm looking forward to getting Izak in the club and judging this trade next season and in seasons to come

Because they are both not in total agreement yet.Thing I don’t understand.
If it’s pick 5 and both clubs agree then why the hell does it take a week to get it done?
Reid treats trade week like a junket is he there to shop at DFO or get deals done?
It’s not 5 for RankineThing I don’t understand.

Reid said it includes pick 5It’s not 5 for Rankine
Nor should it be. Way overs
Mate, its most likely Pick 5 and a Future 3rd. The player is worth what we are willing to pay and Reid has said since day 1 - Pick 5 was on the table. It’s not 5 for Rankine
Nor should it be. Way overs
All indications are we started at pick 5 (shakes head)Because they are both not in total agreement yet.
Yes, it's on record. All indications are we started at pick 5 (shakes head)
Should be marched out the door if we started at the max value we should pay.Yes, it's on record.
That is Max value or may as well use the ND.
isn't he just saying that he provides stats?you'd be wrong. That's exactly what he does.View attachment 1524573
