Grats on landing JD.

Always a solid contributor who slipped under the radar with Josh Kennedy in the side.

Despite his flaws, it's a good bit of recruiting from you guys, getting a tonne of experience and a forwardline workhorse without having to cough up any significant picks. Best of luck.

Trade grade: Eagles move off ageing Darling

Josh Barnes

TRADE: West Coast trades Jack Darling to North Melbourne for pick 67
WEST COAST: B-
The Eagles didn’t get much back but won’t have to pay for Darling to run around in the forwardline next year. That is a win in itself for a player that appeared to be fading badly in the last 18 months.
NORTH MELBOURNE: C+
The Roos have the cap room to fit Darling in on a smoothed-out two year deal and gave up virtually nothing for him.
Whether he is really of use next to Nick Larkey is another question. I suppose he is better value than Brynn Teakle and Toby Pink.

He was contracted yeh?

This is a gutsy move on his part. He would've been ok financially anyway but to be willing as a family to go to Victoria to take on a new challenge is impressive.

Welcome Darling Jack.
Agree with this.....think he's gunna surprise a few

Welcome Darling Jack.

Reckon he's got something to prove mate, has been playing a sacrificial role for a couple of years now - whether that continues or he also manages to get some of his own for us, well that's the fun part.

I can also hear him clunking Larkey and Zurhaar's heads together for cutting each other off and not laying blocks from here.

Don’t mean to intrude but congrats on the pickup.

He’s played a different role for us in the past few seasons but I believe he’s still quite a damaging forward. His wealth of knowledge for your younger guys will be invaluable.

Looking forward to seeing him extend his career elsewhere and wish him all the best.

Good pickup. We were running with a UFA ex rookie listed SANFL player and a MSD draft pick mid year regularly this year. Not as backups or depth, but actual best 23 players because we didn't have any on field structure with basically one injury to CCJ who has hardly fired a shot in the AFL to start with.

This is good business and if there was another KPP available in a similar category I'd wheel out the cash. Hope Darling has a point to prove and plays a few blinders for us.

Having come to terms with this, it's quite pleasing that we will have Darling as a second tall rather then Pink next year.

Jarrad Waite 2.0? :grimacing:

IMHO, this is a good pickup for you guys.

Given his age profile, at West Coast he's behind Waterman, Allen and (arguably) Jack Williams. Waterman's spoken pretty publicly about how Jack basically gave up his own game to help him. I think he'll be a great foil for Larkey.

Pick 67 is basically a packet of chips. If you get 30+ goals out of him... it's a steal. And if he's a flop... you've lost nothing. At the very least, he's an experienced head that will help some of the young guys.

To be honest, that's pretty much how i'd rate it except for the Teakle bit.

He has the same number of syllables in his name as Wayne Carey and Leigh Matthews so it's looking good.

Look at the wins and losses though. Forwards starve when the team is getting flogged, it's not a reliable 1:1 indicator of his own decline.
That’s true.

However he kicked less that Curtis or Zurhaar did this year and we we’re undoubtedly a worse side.
