Traded Jack Steele [traded to St Kilda for 2017 second rounder]

I'll try and get us back on the Steele subject as apparently he's St Kildas main target this off season.

Let's say he does picks us. I think asking for a first round pick would be too much, we don't have a second rounder this year and by the looks of it GWS have enough picks for this year anyway.

So that leaves next years second rounder. Will that be enough or will GWS ask for more?

If I had to guess I'd think they'd be looking for something around the 20 mark, but a future second rounder might be better (even if it looks to be slightly worse) if they're confident about their points total for this year.

There's also the possibility of trading your first round pick for Steele plus a pick.

There is that possibility but I think that will be our last option as we are desperate for top end talent so we'd want to be as high in the draft this year as possible.

Steele is an exciting prospect for us, but I'm not sure he's the kind of guy we'd be giving up a top ten pick for, even if we got a decent pick back.

Jack Steele looks like he belongs in GWS' midfield. If that isnt a good sign of getting top end talent, good luck to you :)

He obviously doesn't "belong" there yet as he's in the NEAFL at the moment.

I get your point though, but I think he's the kind of guy you'd say could be top end talent, not will be. IMO.

North bid pick 15 for him and he has had 2 years of development and hasnt looked out of place at Afl level. Ur having a laff.

What's he worth then? Our second and third next year? That's equal to about pick 15 anyway in your points system.

I realise he only lost his spot due to injury but he still hasn't got it back and as comfortable as he looks he can't quite cement that spot in your side.

He's uncontracted and and on the fringe, not sure you can expect a first round pick for him.

Regrettably, the AFL's insistence on keeping ****ing around with the rules extends to the offseason as well.

Briefly, the new 'points system' makes it harder to put together lots of lesser picks for points, by restricting the number of picks to the number of free list slots. Therefore, third round picks are likely 'dead' for us, meaning it's now far more about high-end pick upgrades than low-end picks.

I don't think the Saints can trade a 2017 2nd rounder as they didn't have one last year, and they traded this years' for Freeman. It'll be a tough trade to settle.

They can. That limit is only on first rounders.

What are you guys expecting to get if Vickery goes?

If it's a start of second round pick it's probably spot on for Steele. But do GWS need another pick this year? Seems like they've got plenty, unless they use it to bundle up for another player perhaps?
That's what I was thinking.

Was also taking the piss. Doubt Vickery compo would get it done. He seems pretty highly rated at GWS.

Second rounder would maybe be a pick around 30, thats not enough.
