They did the same sorta thing with Melb for Tyson
Yep, and got Josh Kelly. I think we'd have to careful about doing a deal like that, somethings it comes off like it did with us last year but sometimes you might miss out on a really good player and we really need top end talent at the moment.

I wonder which GWS fans would prefer. An upgrade of picks this year or next years second round pick?

That was to get up to pick 2 to pick a player they specifically identified. A lot of difference from getting pick 9 in return.

That was for a 7 pick upgrade to get a particular player they wanted at pick 2 Josh Kelly.
Melbourne did get a good deal, but those really high picks inside the top 3 are valued very highly.
Not sure how Melbourne got a good deal there, Kelly will be one of the best mids in the comp going forward. GWS also got pick 20 out of that deal.

Looking back, I think Melbourne would be regretting that one.

The point is they need to free up salary space so why not get rid of a fringe player to move up the draft

It's not like they need anymore picks on top of what they have & they have a few players out of contract/need to get rid of

Yes they need cap space, but Steele wouldn't be on big $$$.
They may not need more early picks this year, but they will want to secure point for next years draft.

So we give them our 1st next yr for 1 of their earlier picks this yr (to on trade for Prestia) plus anyone of Steel, Marchbank, Tomlinson etc..

Just a scenario I've been running on our board

You may get Tomlinson as steak Knifes but not Steele or Marchbank.
Steele and Marchbank would both get late first round picks on there own.
That would like them giving you two first rounders for one first round future pick.
Future picks are worth more, but not that much more.
Eg. We traded for pick 8 in the 2015 draft and gave GWS pick 14-16 in the 2016 draft

Swans : Towers, first round pick ( 15-18 )
Gws : Marchbank, Steele
Sydney would seem like a strange move for Steele to me. The only reason he'd want out of GWS would be opportunity. Sydney are loaded with inside mids, so I can't see why they'd even go after him.

Also, the reason Marchbank will most likely go is because he's home sick.

Ignoring all that though, Giants are getting ripped in that deal.

I'm not sure if you've watched towers play, pure talent not to mention his decision making!
but I'm also not sure two neafl players are going to command much more than a first rounder each

I've seen him play, he's been impressive at times, but he isn't dominating. And at 26 I don't think he's got a huge scope for improvement.

It's not uncommon for guys to be playing reserves in their second year of football especially in a good side, and let's remember they were both playing senior football before losing their spots due to injury.

If Towers is good at one thing, it's definitely not decision making. You could argue he single-handedly lost the Swans two games this year by poor decisions.

sarcasm is hard to show over the Internet, but you had to expect there was some on that quote..
