Traded Jack Steele [traded to St Kilda for 2017 second rounder]

There's talk from Barrett that if North get an end of first round pick for Wells it will be sent to GWS for Steele, remember we bid a first rounder on him in his draft year.

We'd take that too. Not sure he is a great fit for you as he is quite slow but a very good accumulator and has quick hands. Would best suit a quick team but not many of those about.

If I was him I'd go to GCFC but I'm thinking he's wanting his name in lights.

Given what you've just outlined St Kilda would be the perfect choice.
And that is also why Steele will be a Saint next year....Good as done and dusted.

Time for you to just get your head around the fact that it will happen.
Hopefully you guys are happy with what you get in return.

Look it may well do but don't get arrogant or you will set yourself up for possible disappointment.

Last year the Richmond folk kept telling us Treloar was a done deal to the Tigers and Hawthorn people had Whitfield a done deal there.

No doubt it has been his preferred option but if you guys want to make like bandits and underpay he might end up elsewhere as we won't be robbed and his primary interest is opportunity.

We couldn't give a shit where he ends up so long as we're paid.

Whitfield to Hawthorn? Never heard that one before

It would be getting a bit out of hand really. I don't feel like chasing talent you originally drafted to another club is a pillar I'd want to be building success on. Whiley, Jacksh, Plowman, Sumner, Lamb, Phillips, Marchbank and rumored interest in Stewart then that post re Steele.

That would leave just shy of a quarter of the senior list as GWS cast offs. I have concerns over what my club is doing, but that sort of list build would seriously worry me!

This is the result of poor drafting and list management decisons over the years which has sent the club backwards. Silvagni is trying to rebuild the club in the quickest manner possible. Before he took over 3/4 of the list weren't up to it and that's an enormous amount!. Then go and have a look at the Eddie betts/Daisy Thomas situation where we could of got a decent pick.
If SOS wasn't doing these things then I would be worried!

SOS the master!
2014 draft crop

#4 Pickett - Hasn't played a game
#6 Marchbank - Leaving
#7 Ahearn - Hasnt played a game
#23 McKenna - Hasn't played
#24 Steele - Leaving

That kills any other club
Yes injures haven't helped

Well that's if he wants to go there

As long as the pick is on the table it would force St Kilda into coming up with a fair offer, or at least make things interesting until the latter stages of the trade period. Would give us time to get in his ear (of course this rarely works, ala Aish last year).

Bit harsh re that draft as injuries have been unkind.

His 2012 draft was his true disasterpiece.

Reached for O'Rourke (hack) and Plowman (spud) then took Jaksch (egg) and Corr (unproven and another reach).

5 picks inside 14 and he managed to miss Brodie Grundy when we needed a ruckman. Takes a special talent to do that. With all the chips he still nearly f***** things up.

I never said he's master but I'm sure he'll do his best for the club he played for.
And yes injuries haven't helped but lack of opportunity through the strength of the gas list is a big factor aswell

I don't quite rate the GWS 4 as some sort of massive steal however Plowman played some top footy this year, he'll be just fine. Was 3 a reach?? Maybe but no more than some others in draft history.

He was a reach because he was projected 7-10 and was taken at 3.

At pick 3 you take best available of which he was not and will never be.

He is not a complete bust but he wont be All Australian either.

The mention of O'Rourke brings chills to the spine. How he fooled both us and Hawthorn is beyond me. Group 1 Spud.

It seems worrying on the surface but you obviously haven't looked at the kind of players they were replacing...

Only Whiley would be seen as a worse player than some of the players we cut. The likes of Ellard, Holman, Watson, Warnock, Giles...yeah sure Jaksch hasn't kicked on and Lamb is a journeyman but by god we had some far-from-AFL players on our list.

We're slowly building elite talent (Weitering, Cripps, Docherty, Marchbank if we can get him, hopefully pick 5 too) with some solid young players as well (Plowman, Byrne, Silvagni, Curnow, McKay, Kerridge), but we are trying to build upon those 30-40th players on the list which through the Ratten (especially in the Ratten years when we actually had true stars of the comp - Judd, Murphy, Fev, Betts, even Scotland got in the AA squad in '11 and B&F in '12) and Malthouse years were severely lacking. Guys like Sumner, Phillips and Stewart are/would be better than the ones we've had before. I'd say the Dogs are now the list prototype team - this week they don't have Crameri, Suckling, Murphy, Campbell, Wallis, Adams (suspension/injury), Jong, Stevens, Hrovat, Williams, Minson (left out) playing...they bat so far on their list. Silvagni is looking to get a list like this with undervalued players for cheap.

It seems strange to pick up so called rejects of 1 other club but the way I see it we've got 1 solid player each time (Plowman and Marchbank) and then got steak knives players instead of going to pick 60, 70, 80 and potentially picking up another Clem Smith type...

His best just isnt very good when it comes to list mgt and recruiting.
Same old story. Great player. Favourite Son. Noone will call him out or question him when he does an awful job.
The old favourite son syndrome. Always ends in tears when you give them power.
