Jack Watts dropped to Casey

You have no idea what he's learning, apparently he laid 3 tackles inside the first 10 minutes of the game... I have no idea about the rest of the game but that's a good start.

Getting it is not a problem, he can win the ball at ground level.

Maintaining his intensity is the problem, he actually has gotten 45% of his disposals this year (AFL) in a contested situation... so maybe you've been sucked in by this group think that all he does is rack up cheap stats?

Just going by what I saw last week and what the commentators saw this week.

.............

Maintaining his intensity is the problem,

You just debunked your own point there.
Of course he would come shooting out of the blocks after the opinions being voiced about him this week. Reading what people have to say about the VFL game, sounds like he is still just cruising along, his fuse stayed lit for the first 10 mins but then just coasted for the rest of the match.

My bad. Everyones on the Jack Bandwagon. We all wish we had the number 1 pick so we could have gotten him and made everyone jealous.

That's the thing... 'sounds like'.

I don't think he dominated, but from reports he put in a consistent effort and was among the best dozen on the ground.

You can't completely over haul the way you play overnight; I know this, you know this.

I want improvement from Jack in certain areas, that was happening this year until a step in the wrong direction against the Saints; and he was justly reminded by Neeld that it was a performance that wouldn't be accepted from someone of his talent.

Oops, I meant top half dozen.

Either way, the answer is YES.

He's gone back and performed; hopefully he'll get another week in the two's to back it up and then back in the senior side for Jack.

I think people are underestimating how bad it is playing as a forward for Melbourne. We are a low possession team, low inside 50's. Hardly ever get it delivered cleanly into the forward line. We don't have good disposal mids that can deliver lace out to a player on a lead or even just kick it to our forwards advantage.
During his first two years in the league he would make lead after lead and for whatever reason our mids wouldn't even look in his direction, let alone kick it to him.

With the way we are playing this year, bombing high and long into the forward line for Clark to crash the pack or Howe to take a hanger, this style doesn't suit Watts at this stage in his career.

Jack watts wouldn't suit being a forward anywhere. I have no idea what position he would play at a top side. I mean who's spot would he take at say Carlton, west coast, essendon or Sydney? Just to mention some other sides

Mitch Clarke doesnt seem to have a problem playing in the Melbourne Forward line as he has been quite good. The difference between him and Watts is that Clarke actually attacks the ball with desire and has a hunger for the contest. Watts sadly lacks in all those areas and is as soft as butter. Sadly you cant teach that in players as you either have it or you dont and Watts is always going to struggle as an AFL footballer because of this. I think everybody is sick of people making excuses for him

by seasons end Melbourne will have the most exciting and effective forward line in the league with Clark, Jurrah and Watts tearing apart any back line

Stick the boots in now while you can, because our time will come.

ps. Mitch Clark is worth every penny, bad luck Freo

Laughable those few Melbourne supporters claiming NN hasnt done much so far. I took a good while to come around and didnt think he would make it, but what he has shown so far given the time thought to develop him has been sensational. His pure ruck work is close to the best going around (better than Cox) and everything else is coming along nicely.

Having said that, I think there is a chance Watts will make it. It took Tomahawk a while, but I think dropping him to the 2s just adds pressure. Leave him in the forward line, keep encouraging and blasting him to work harder and eventually the form will come.

Don't know why everyone is obsessed with what the draft pick was
Players chosen in the first round of the AFL draft attract more scrutiny than players chosen the later rounds. The player chosen with the number 1 pick attracts even more scrutiny. This will never change.

Melbourne could've chosen any player in the 2008 draft: Natanui, Hurley, Vickery, Davis, Rich, Ziebell, Hartlett, Hill, Yarran, Shuey, Sidebottom, Zaharakis, Hannebery

Instead of choosing a good footballer, they've selected the softest dud since Josh Fraser

Melbourne fans know they've stuffed up, even if they won't admit it on here.

Vickery and Hill are miles worse than Watts, and Hill's even softer if that's possible

You guys were claiming this 3 years ago: in 2011-2 Melbourne were gonna have the most awesome-est forward line ever, with Jurrah, Watts, Sylvia, Bate, Green, Davey, Wonnemairi, Pettard, etc tearing every backline apart......

I don't think we have 'stuffed up'.

I look forward to the day Jack rips the competition a new one. :thumbsu:

Laughable for opposition supporters to continue pretending Watts hasn't done anything so far.

And by the way, it's very, very clear that the REAL reason for so much of the continued hysterical hyping up of Naitanui, and lynching of Watts at every opportunity by certain people, is simply because these people are resentful about Watts receiving the attention he did in 2009 and subsequently. And after 3 years, they still can't get over it

I must have woken up in 2009.

So so many questions I could ask but here are just a few:

1. What exactly is Jack Watts? What position does he play

2. Resentful of what exactly? All top draft picks get a lot of attention in their draft year.

3. How NikNat being hyped? Is Watts better because he lopes around getting cheap kicks on a wing/flank?

4. If Watts is this mysterious work in progress as many have led us to believe and following the career trajectory of Tom Hawkins, why doesn't he play as a key forward?

5. If Watts has achieved so much in his career why was he dropped this week? What other number 1 draft picks from the last 15 years were being dropped for form related issues in their 4th (or 3rd even if we don't count 09 as his first season).

I would of been pretty pissed off if any of our number 1 picks (Murphy, Gibbs or Kreuzer) were performing as poorly as Watts at the same stage of their careers.

Disagree on Hill, that kid has shown heaps more than Watts (see the St.Kilda match two weeks ago). Vickery is a total spud and about on par with Watts.

Funny how Watts gets dramatically more contested marks/game than Vickery, and well over twice as many as Hill, in reality though.

Reality, that is.

Even though Vickery is one year older. And Hill is two years older.

Easier just to make shit up than address things the way they actually are though, of course
