Amazing work from Sam Power to haggle for 9 days to move up from 47 to 45.

Move over Dodo, you've got company.

Adrian Dodoro was and is a Living God on Bigfooty.

Essendon always won trade week each season under the Dodoro.

Richmond has won trade week in 2024.

Dodoro can only dream of doing half the good stuff richmond has done this season.

Saints said for two weeks they would only offer a future pick and wanted their 2024 picks then literally sat on their hands all trade period only to finally offer a 2024 pick yesterday anyway.

This is why the Saints will always be the Saints.

We moved from 27 to 32 & received pick 45 which we used on Macrae

Thing is our pick 32 will now come back into pick 28 due to picks in between being used for matching bids

So bottom line is we got Macrae for free ... it cost us nothing in terms of picks because we will be back to where we started before we got pick 45

But didn't you hear, the Saints will always be the Saints!

So in the end we got Macrae for moving back from pick 27 to 32 (we got 32 and 45 for 27).

As things stand right now, pick 32 could move all the way back up to 28 (as multiple clubs with picks in the 27-32 range right now could need to use them to match earlier FS or academy bids), so we got lucky being able to do that pick swap.

Pick 45 will also potentially move up into even the late 30’s, and it’s widely regarded that a pick around 40 this year could be equivalent to a pick around 30 in recent drafts, so for the Dogs fans who don’t think they got enough for Macrae, would you have been upset if you got around pick 30 for him, if this was like recent drafts?

45 doesn’t sound great, as traditionally it’s been considered a “junk pick”, but in a draft as deep as this, and once it moves up after earlier picks get swallowed up in bid matching, it’s likely to be far from “junk”.
It really came down to how much we wanted his money off our books, which none of us here really knew. We got the answer with this trade that we obviously wanted it gone otherwise we would have held out for more like we did with Daniel.

A good pickup for the Saints while we can now get creative with our salary cap.

He also haggled for nine days to move from 17 for Smith to 17 and swapping 45 for 38. There's 5 academy/fs bid picks in between there so he's really swapping 40 for 38 on draft night.

Truly Dodoro-esque negotiating.

Hurrr durr Cats could have done 17 and 38 for Smith and 48 at any point but held out for 45, well played Mackoro.

Go and like a few Bazlenka pics then go outside and touch grass mate.

Except Mackdog didn't have to do anything. He was arriving one way or another.

He isn't like dodoro as he spoke multiple times about doing the right thing by Power and ensuring WB get something for Smith rather sending to a draft.

Poignantly given you are the Bulldogs it appears....

he threw you a bone.

It’s not exactly a loss either macrae was surplus to the dogs need . Kennedy not a star but his a good solid player attacks the contest wins the ball at worst his a good backup in case of injury
Macrae is a better pure mid, Kennedy arguably a better player in the role we want, HF defensive type and second rotation defensive mid.

Nothing but respect and good wishes for Jack. As a centre bounce mid I think he'll do well at the Saints.

Not sure what you're getting at. Brisbane's trade with Saints indicates they needed to consolidate their picks for bids. Brisbane and Essendon are highly unlikely to be trading on these picks now.

Wait and see what happens at the start of the draft. Even if those picks aren’t traded, three bids and three picks ahead of 32 means it doesn’t move.

Well no. You're still going to be 4 picks later. Or does pick 32 move due to bids and pick 28 doesn't?

If it played out the way it sits right now it could come all the way back in to within 1 or 2 picks of where we started (although all of them will come out to begin with, once the early bids push everyone later back).

For starters, Brisbane, who traded us 32 and 45 for 27, would use 27 to match bids for Ashcroft and Marshall, so that pick would disappear, while Essendons first two picks are at 28 and 31, do they would be used to match the Kako bid. So at the very worst it would end up at 29.

Of course on the night it’s highly likely that those two clubs will trade those picks back though, to get more points, so what is now 32 may not come in at all.

I suspect those picks get traded. But I think you might be overlooking that each player bid on and matched then creates a new pick in the draft. So if the Lions used 27 in matching a bid for Ashcroft at pick 3, pick 32 won’t move because 27 will disappear but a new pick 3 will be created. It’s only picks after the second matching pick that start moving in by one. Or by two after the third matching pick, and so on. E.g. If Essendon used both 28 and 31 on Kako at 10, then 32 would move in by one (two picks ahead of 32 would disappear but one would be created).

That was what I was referring to in brackets in the first paragraph. So I think it’s probably more likely to end up the way you said earlier, where it may end up at 35. Clubs with multiple later picks will eye those Brisbane and Essendon picks.

We may even offer 32 and 47 to get 27 back.

Either way I’m happy to get Jack for trading back up to 5 picks in the 30’s in a very deep draft and you guys can get someone good with wherever 45 ends up at.

The silver lining is your pick 47 might end up closer to 40, if they do trade those picks back.
