Murphy will be fine. He knows how long the season is and doesn’t need to prove himself at the moment. Although his tackling was amazing on Thursday night. I see him on a wing.

I truely hope so. But I feel like the issues that concern me have been there for at least the last 2 seasons.

As for inclusions, like ITCHY EYEBALLS I would elevate O'Brien, Kennedy and Stocker

What I would also trial for a half, is either swapping Walsh with Garlett, or at the very least playing Walsh as a defensive wingman.

Think he would add some great run and carry and decision making out of the back half.

Garlett is more attacking and could be dangerous breaking inside 50

Also interested how Howe and even Doc go not being able to be as loose. Having to defend 1 on 1 will be interesting.

See how teams adjust as the season progresses - does space get blocked off vs man on man etc.

Adelaide have a decent backline forming with run, intercepting & defensive capabilities with Laird, Smith, Milera, Doedee, Talia + host of defenders able to step in - we could do with a couple of the former listed players bursting out of our defence, hitting targets.

The issue I see with his play style is sitting outside packs and avoiding contact. That works when you have pace and good disposal. Currently he has neither.

I don't remember him hitting a contest since Paddy did his shoulder....
Garbage, he keeps us in the game so often when the other team gets a run down a wing. Chasing into packs and spoiling. Tackled hard the other night repeatedly. Fights above his weight.

Garlett has been set for this role all pre season and needs to settle. He’s getting better and something we need. Leave him there.

Stocker is still weeks away from AFL football.

There is no issue. It’s Russell getting him ready. He was just way too solid and it was costing him. Has a very good engine but needs to trim down and build core etc. Has improved it a lot but more to do.

What is great now is we aren’t rushing players to play, especially the younger ones. Owies is in a similar position. LeBois the same
Good call Soapy, Stocker is not ready....they played him off half back on Thurs so may be looking to build more defence into his game. We did the same with Ratts early in his career, and I see similarities between the two. Wayne Harmes never played in defence in his life until he came to the Blues...look what he did when they moved him into the guts in those critical times.

LeBois is the one I am fascinated with....they gave him a contract extension which shows the hierarchy see something in him to keep him on the list despite not having played a game. Buckenara rated him in the top 50 in the 2016 National Draft...called him a 'steal' in the rookie draft that year. I'm not giving up on him yet...

Just need a little bit of patience with Stocker. They are doing the right thing. He was cooked after game last week. Has been doing mostly running at training. Barely been in match sims.

By middle of the year we will be very happy with how Russell held him back

As for LeBois had some serious ops end of last year. Has been at club since September but only in last 4 weeks has joined in full training

Once again Russell is bringing him back properly with focus on the big picture. LeBois biggest issue is he can’t stay on the park. Hope Russell can work his magic

It’s a different Carlton now. No rushing of players

Adelaide will do well once the bell hits the deck in their backline but they will struggle v tall forwards as they don’t have the man power to stop teams one on one out of centre clearances. Port smashed them when they moved it quickly from the centre. As will we. They won’t stand a chance v Melbourne and west coast.

Plan A B and C

I understand that Stocker may need more KMs in his legs

As for Garlett, he is yet to convince me he is a lock and prefer him further up the ground

Anyway not crucial at this stage, so happy with the trial

I used to adore watching the "3 amigo's" playing together a few years back, weaving their magic on the vast spaces of the G.....Leigh Matthews on 3AW used to say that while we had those three on the field, opposition coaches would never be truly confident of a win.

Would LOVE to see the "4 amigo's" now...SPS, LeBois, Pickett and Garlett....developing together and striking fear into the opposition over time like Yaz, Jeffy and Eddie.

Might Kennedy be the same....big legs..those ankles take a beating..trim him down and slightly less bull but watch him go

Stood near him the other day. Looked really trim.

I wouldn’t be reading anything into him playing VFL the other night. Like LOB it was about game time. I expect both back this week

The only concern I have with Murphy is propensity for loopy passes, both by hand and foot. Often gets teammates into trouble.

It was a good fitness test running out a full game.

They did a great job given the temperature was in the high 30's.

From what I saw Garlett has to speed up his kicks as his kicks were on target but were too slow and intercepted. If he fixes this up then certainly becomes a weapon for us.

Kreuzer unlikely to play before round 1. I am happy to persist with Phillips and Lobbe, maybe a half each.

Team:

Plowman Jones. Simpson.
Garlett. Weitering. Newman.
O’Brien. SPS. Walsh.
Setterfield McGovern. Fisher.
Cuningham. Harry. Charlie.
R. Phillips. Cripps. Dow.
I1. Kennedy. Murphy. Jack SOS. Thomas.
I2. Polson. Lobbe. Gibbons. Ed Curnow.

Handy group of injured players in Docherty, Pickett,
Marchbank, Macreadie, Williamson, Fasolo and Lang.
