Just such a shame we can’t fit everyone in. Was always going to be someone undeserving miss out when at near full strength.

I feel so bummed at the news of John Noble out. I see why but it doesn’t make it easier to take. I feel so sorry for the poor bloke. He plays 100% heart and soul and gives his all every week. Disposal can be his undoing when under pressure but his effort is second to none. It makes it so harsh given he’s played every game this season, to now miss when it matters.

I want to give him a hug!

Yeah, but the people who matter and know more don’t.
I don't usually question selection, but this one doesn't make much sense to me.

In the end it's not a major factor on how we perform but just seems a very odd call that came from nowhere.

It doesn't seem to fit with the selectors own moves. Markov had been on the edge of selection much of the year. Moved to sub or out of the team at times. Noble rock solid in the 22, then suddenly that changes for the final and we make a move that we have not made before.

Yeah it sucks. Clearly they know what they are doing but hopefully we don’t miss his run and connection. Considering that is our biggest area of scoring. Everyone will want to have a big game but would hope to see the other guys who were on the fringe Lippa,Cox ,whe and Markov would have big games!

The coaches have chosen a side that they believe will implement a plan to beat Melbourne. Markov has been preferred over Noble as part of that plan.
If you’re not privy to the intricacies of the game day strategy, there is little point categorically stating the selection is wrong.

Sure, it’s surprising, maybe even disappointing, but if we can’t trust the coaches, then how the hell did we end up top?

This is a bit sad now. Consistent and reliable. But droppable in a final. Poor bloke
He wouldn’t want anyone feeling sorry for him. He will work his arse off on the track to get picked for the next game. He will also get around his teammates in our search for victory.

Another way in which this move is not consistent with the club's decisions. Noble given a three year contract, Markov one.

I'm thinking this is more tailored to fit our opponent than Markov having gone past Noble. I'd be surprised if Noble does not play in the finals series. Though will be even tougher when Nick returns.

Trying to claim the two are related doesn't make sense. Choosing a team that they think is best suited to beating Melbourne has no bearing on contract lengths. Should we give Cox a longer contract extension than someone like Ginnivan?

Shame for Noble. Maybe we have a specific plan for Markov on Pickett, and Noble wasn’t seen as accountable enough. Hard to say.

Further pressure to come when Nick Daicos is available, of course.

Categorically wrong? I said "wrong in my view", ie. with the information I have. Think you're being a bit defensive. Yes, I believe this selection is wrong, but that's with the view I have from outside, I absolutely leave open the possibility that the selectors are being perfectly reasonable. Even with my outside view I did speculate on why the selectors went the way they did.

Even when not quite agreeing with a move I can usually see reasoning behind it. Or at least see that selectors had been going that way. This one's a bit outside the norm because one player has been sub (most recently R21) or missed games whereas the other was a fixture. As mentioned above I think that's because it might be a matchup selection more than anything, but we'll wait and see.

Somebody had to make way, didn’t see that coming. These unfortunately are good problems. Suspect the next “ victim” will depend on how our forward line and two ruck structure performs, as well as some of our one paced veteran midfielders. I can’t see noble forcing markov out although there’s always a sub spot he’d be ideal for.

I think Markov's last two months have been excellent and he's a lock. Noble Vs WHE. And WHE gets the nod because of his versatility.

Averaging 20 disposals at over 70%, 5 marks and 400 metres gained

They’ve dropped the wrong player

Whether Noble plays defence or bench and in a variety of positions…

Sacrificing run, metres gained… is not what is needed in a team with two rucks, talls and ageing, slowing players in Pendles, Adams, Mitchell, Sidebottom plus Lipinski

Not sure about that. Markov was sub as recently as R21. I don't think he's a lock.

I think WHE should be playing because of what he gives us aerially. I'd then have Noble ahead of Markov. Oleg better without the ball but Noble better with it and I think that's a bit more important for our run out of defence.

With Nick back though it becomes hard to play Noble or Markov, especially if he plays in defence. WHE could make way but then we're bringing in another poor aerial player for a good one. Wouldn't like it but can see that it's possible. The Noble omission based on the selectors own history didn't look to be on the cards, which is why I think it's possibly specific to this game.

I think you've got this bit wrong. Noble gets more of the ball, but it's about gaining territory - skirt round the back get a handball run the full measure and kick it long to a contest. Markov cuts straight through at blistering pace and puts defences in disarray.

I’d have preferred we move Sidebottom to Lipinski’s spot and Noble to the wing but I understand why we didn’t do that.

I think that depends on where they plan on playing Nick. They're seems to be a bit of consensus on here that it'll back to half back, but if he was right this week, I'd slot him straight into Lippas role but with more midfield time and leave Lippa out. But next game will depend on what happens tomorrow night.
