I don't usually question selection, but this one doesn't make much sense to me.

It probably makes sense when you consider that Markov is probably playing the N.Daicos defender role.

We probably want the team to be as settled as possible over the finals series. Make the cut to Noble now, and Markov to get his turn when Nick comes back in.

I think that depends on where they plan on playing Nick. They're seems to be a bit of consensus on here that it'll back to half back, but if he was right this week, I'd slot him straight into Lippas role but with more midfield time and leave Lippa out. But next game will depend on what happens tomorrow night.
I think Nick's less likely to play midfield due to the weeks missed. He's played more defence than forward and was important for us there. He could move forward, but defence seems to make the most sense.

Possibly. But all the time that Nick or anyone else has been playing, Noble has also been there. When we've had to move a runner out of defence it has been Markov, usually to sub, then it was WHE.

It's not a big deal, but it is an odd move. WHE and Markov have both been subbed or even dropped. If one of those made way you could disagree but it would accord with what the selectors have bee doing. The Noble omission has come from nowhere.

So yes it was a surprise. I'm over it now and it's not a move that's going to have a big impact on performance so I'll move on.

I think Markov's last two months have been excellent and he's a lock. Noble Vs WHE. And WHE gets the nod because of his versatility.

Averaging 20 disposals at over 70%, 5 marks and 400 metres gained

They’ve dropped the wrong player

Whether Noble plays defence or bench and in a variety of positions…

Sacrificing run, metres gained… is not what is needed in a team with two rucks, talls and ageing, slowing players in Pendles, Adams, Mitchell, Sidebottom plus Lipinski

I don’t think Noble DOES play a variety of positions though. He’s an attacking small defender … his only role…and markov has forced him out by simply being better. Howe returning to the backline also leaves noble with less of a role.

Two rucks is a seperate debate and has little to do with the structure of our defence. Arguably a plodding mid could have gone out instead ( lipinksi the only realistic option) but against melbournes hard bodied midfield that’s probably playing into their hands to do that.

I don't view the Nick from defence role as a defender or the Lippa from the forward half role as a forward. They both move into the midfield after the 6 6 6 rule and try to create an outnumber for our running chains.

Pendles will be doing the Nick at HB role and providing an extra number round the contests. Probably changing with Crisp

Just on metres gained….

Over the past 9 games he’s averaged 250 and only once scored near his season average of 396 ( which would have been higher before the slump) . You may have inadvertently hit the nail on the head… for a player whose main weapon is gaining territory, he has slipped significantly in the last 1/3 of the season.

Possessions and marks also lower recently

I was surprised at the move tbh, but backing in the selectors who have us sitting on the top after 23 rounds.

I’m also backing us in to beat Melbourne tomorrow. I believe there’s a switch that will be turned on. That doesn’t assure victory, but it will go a long way to one.

Noble will make his way back I believe. It’s a match up in my opinion.

Lippa does the same from the forward half - Nick could do either with ease - just depends if you want to strengthen run from the back or front of the pack. Or whether we think he causes more damage from behind with the extra possessions or more from in front with the more attacking position he'll get his possessions in.

I think Nobes having hurt the same ankle twice in six weeks has affected his output as much as anything.

But even if he's fine now, there's no shame in being the 24th or 25th player in the squad at the moment. Or, at least for this game anyway.

....... skirt round the back get a handball run the full measure and kick it long to a contest. Markov cuts straight through at blistering pace and puts defences in disarray.

Having read a few pages and plus my own thoughts, I reckon SR36 highlights why Markov would get the nod over poor Johnny Noble. It's a big shame. I feel for him but I trust our selection commitee.

And technically if we need to blame anyone on why Johnny has been dropped, it's Wade and his staff for having too many healthy players to select from! 😝😝😝

Yeah

I lit a bergamot candle and practised self-compassion

Might take Markov to (legally) pole axe Fritsch to restore serenity

Be kind to yourself

Hugs xx

A few more on here could consider practising self compassion to jettison some of that nervous energy.

Johnny noble will be back
