The new age, where corporations, the media and social media use the banner of inclusion to decide on morality, social values and who we should discriminate against.

It's just so ******* moronic.
I for one have had enough !
I’m leaving Australia & going to live in Tasmania.

Yes indeed.

The speed with which this topic has degenerated into an occasion for people to gnash and slobber about wokeness has been predictable, but no less pathetic for that.

Unless Ralph, Riewoldt, Cornes, Lyons and Robbo all became standard-bearers of progressive politics while I was conducting business in the toilet, it should be easy to see that the professional hysterics in this instance have nothing to do with woah woah woke.

My arse this isn't a direct outcome of the current culture, especially in media. It's a trend in all industries.

While those you mentioned may not be "woke" or progressive champions. You can bet your bottom dollar that their producers are and that the executives in charge have a clear want to cater to this societal bullshit.

This is 100% the result of woke culture. No ifs ands or buts. Is it annoying to constantly hear? Yes. But it is the reason regardless of the repetition.

AFL is a joke they talk about mental health then proceed to destroy ppls mental health because they hate us ginni and quaynor made in to a current affair but Bailey smith the biggest influencer of youth in AFL has more social media followers than anyone gets sympathy for doing coke and looked after by the media I read an article about it 24 hours after he got caught and it was about how much of a bigger star Bailey can be because of this drugs thing and they had to watch what they say because a young man’s mental health was at stake but when they wear a Collingwood jumper there’s no such thing as mental health and it’s made up get told to “not play victim” the media are a disease and anyone that can’t see the pure hatred and double standard for our club is blind as a bat
I reckon Bailey got shafted also , again based on optics not because the AFL cares. They just want the PR to look right.

Why did he get suspended? 1st strike. Should be no suspension, a suspended fine and anoninimity preseved as much as possible. As it turns out 2 weeks and Bailey gets paraded to the media, scripted to say the things that will cast the organisation in a good light.

Bullshit. Drivel. My arse this isn't a direct outcome of the current culture, especially in media. It's a trend in all industries.

You're talking s**t. Poor form.

Your response has given me pause. I am now in the process of reconsidering not only my post, but also my values and my beliefs about past, present and future.

I don't know where the light is coming from, but I can now see something brighter.

Ta.

REworded it without the aggression. It is 100% caused by woke culture.

The punishment wasn't for taking coke, it was for being photographed with it. I think the illicit drugs policy should be scrapped, but getting your face on the news holding a little baggie is a pretty clear cut (pun intended) example of bringing the game into disrepute.

Decided not to be lazy and look into the meaning and origin of the word. Think I may be a 'wokie'.:)

You're cute when you are slightly less aggressive.

I'll politely disagree. Woke is a near-meaningless term, in my view, and the JDG fiasco (there's a word, much better than 'saga') tells me more about the desperate need of media heads and their respective outlets to gain more market share.

Put it this way, if the player in question was a mid-level hack from Adelaide, no one would stir. But a Collingwood midfielder who is (a) out of contract and (b) had some prior indiscretions is a story. That's what it's about; the story, not the 'wokeness'.

I know it’s off topic, but there was an interesting write up on fox sports today on how Jordy should be valued as a player. The posters who have been throwing out stats with no context should probably take note of some of the stuff here, so they can get their minds around why Jordy is rated so highly as a mid/forward, even though his numbers aren’t elite by either of the pure position metrics:

And considering that most coaches have played the highest rated stars in the league in a midfield/forward role, - Martin, Danger, Bont, Fyfe, even Cripps is currently doing it - it looks like that role is more valued than the pure mid roles.

Preach it Apex! If Jordy doesn't play on the weekend, we are going to get an unenjoyable demonstration of his importance to our team.

I don't identify as cute. I identify as ruggedly handsome. Now of course no one else may see that. But I identify as it, therefore please respect my identification label.

Yes. The story is about De Goey. No ones arguing that, but do you truly believe something as innocuous as the Bali trip would have even been a story in 1997. Shit lets fast forward to 2007. Nada. Go one step further with Ginnivan and IQ being dragged through the mud for literally nothing.

I don't understand how you could even argue it's directly correlating to the societal landscape AKA the "woke" culture. Yes, correlation does not always equal causation, but in both cases here it's pretty obvious.

Man invented punctuation.

God invented man.

Seriously enough about grammar. I often make mistakes and hit reply too soon.

One time I had a wonky keyboard and was always misspelling things, fortunately nobody said anything.

It really isn't a big deal.

When people bring up grammar, I am reminded of this.

I'm older than Moses. I am not young, although I identify as immature. I was a child of Frankston in the 1980s, when men were afraid to go outside without wearing AC/DC t-shirts and women had voices which doubled as paint stripper.

The media landscape is almost unrecognisable from the 1990s, not least because of the internet, not least because of social media. What gets reported and what counts as news these days is considerably different to even a decade ago.

Major/existing news sources are under extraordinary pressure to tailor their content to the lowest common denominator. An example is the Age. It used to be reliable and staid, but there's so much sensationalist garbage in there now that I've cancelled my subscription.

It's the economics --not the politics-- which has done Jordan in, even if the economics is dressing itself up as something more virtuous.

It’s about time you woke up to that.

Thank you, sometimes it better to get first hand knowledge than googling.

My daughter has it and was only diagnosed at 18. She also has depression and anxiety and ADHD makes this worse. She has difficulty processing instructions, organising anything and with time management . She fidgets and gets distracted easily, day dreams and does not finish tasks. She also gets excitable, can interrupt a lot, frustrated easily and is exhausted because her sleep is disturbed because I her brain is over stimulated all the time. School was very difficult as a result and she felt stupid even though she is very clever. Once diagnosed and treated with medication she says her brain is no longer foggy and she has been able to get a job and function much better. The medication lasts in the system for a matter of hours only (like taking a Panadol) so you take it when you need better executive function (like to go to work or school). Not necessarily on holiday, for example.

It has been a long hard road and my daughter is taking responsibility for her own mental health and working hard to get better. She says there are things that people her age do (like drink alcohol) that she just cannot risk because her impulse control would be even worse.

There is an instagram account which explains how it feels to have it called spaghettibrained.

Otherwise, listen to Heath Black, ex-Freo player who is a mental health advocate on this. He spoke on SEN yesterday afternoon (to Andy Maher). It was a really great interview.

Thank you for this.

Have just been reading up on it from a link at the John Hopkins centre.

I am completely sure that any executive working for Murdoch media is not woke. The Guardian definitely but Newscorp?

Legend! Love it, killed me with the paint stripper line.

I can see your point and now think we're actually not disagreeing we just misinterpreted or misworded.

I do agree with that, it is about the economics that is why I brought up the executives. I believe they are always using the social landscape and that currently happens to be -**** i hate having to keep typing this word- woke. But in any era they will use whatever social/political happenings they possibly can to maximise views/clicks/profit.

Regardless, I can see both sides to the Jordy situation the more I ponder it. I think the media should be ashamed, but on the other foot - Jordy should know at this point that he's a target due to his history and his status.

The pile on has come from everyone. If you compare what is being written by the ABC compared to Fox News there isn't any difference. It's universal bullshit and has nothing to do with a political bent either way.

Jordy has doubled up. He has offended the woke with an action that could be construed as sexual harassment and the conservative right due to Bali, booze and sex.

Overall, the Hun ain't aiming for the woke. It's the more conservative media going hardest on this one.
