Yeah, and that’s why Whateley would never make it as a coach or list manager

Malthouse, Matthews, Sheedy, Hardwick, Jeans, and Clarkson all managed bad player behaviour

They’d say stay off the video Jordy, we don’t need the distraction
Whateley just not getting what he wanted from Hodge. Hilarious.

Not the point and if you can't see that then you can't be persuaded.

The fact he even put himself in that position where it COULD have happened it just plain stupidity.

Oh and hey, let's record it on our iPhone for good measure.
So you're saying JDGs stupidity warrants a sanction/suspension? How is that reasonable or logical?

malthouse's teams have a trail of bad behaviour. He was dead-set against any form of banning of players for off-field behaviour. As long as they remained loyal to him, that was all that mattered. I dont think Leigh was even remotely concerned about the player's private life... in fact, the further you go back in time, the more likely behaviour like jordy's would be celebrated by stories told by players at footy functions.

I think a lot of people here have commented on the pile-on by foxfooty people who weren't angels during their playing days. I'm amazed that they can criticise de goey with their histories. I heard some people on radio yesterday discussing de goey and it seems that the thing that most upsets people is that it is on video ....not that de goey actually did it. If he had gone to a place without cameras, it would have been ok. The morality reflected in that view is bizarre.

It was their own cameras that did the damage. The venue's cameras would only be of interest if something illegal occurred.

But did he say he should be suspended? Or should I go back to bed?
The below line from his post suggests he did

"He should be fined and suspended out of sheer stupidty."

Of course.

The club (bizarrely mind you) allowed him to go overseas and party it up on a bye week when a million eyes are on him with his past misdemeanours and he still couldn't control himself.

I've been a long time defender of him and can't really see how this is isn't a slap in the face to the club.

Go and enjoy yourself you're a young man but DONT put yourself in a position of scrutiny by being a dumbass.

And if you were a teacher you wouldn’t have people stalking your mates Insta to try and sell s**t to the news.
Of course not. But if you're part of the public face of a company, there's a lot of jobs where you are expected to represent the values of that company and not be a turn off for customers. It sucks, but it's a reality.

The AFLPA should go hard on this sort of stuff to try to shift the reality to be more inclusive (pretty ridiculous that the banner of inclusion is used to repress unwanted legal behaviour).

But for the individual AFL player, they've just got to accept that they're not just getting paid to play footy. The big money is there because of the games image and widespread appeal to the public, and the players are the image, and if they damage that image, inside or outside the job, they're less valuable.

“But unlike drug use, harassment and sexual assault and conversations around that and when we condone it in any kind of form, it actually does cause harm. That contributes to the stats that we see – one in two women have experienced sexual harassment and one in five sexual assault. I think it’s now on Collingwood to be really decisive.”
Hussein has also worked for Cricket Australia and Richmond in diversity roles and is a board member for the Victorian Women’s Trust.

I would like to ask Hussein the question, at what point is Jordan condoning harassment against women?

He should be locked in a tower unless he has training or it's game day

The comment on radio by the podcast jake niahill is in, was that the key point was the behaviour was on video....not who provided it. The simple fact that it was on video and that it was "not a good look" for the AFL, meant that people were asking for sanctions.

To make the point, we have leaders of the free world who often cause the death and suffering of a lot of people, but as long as they dont appear on video pushing the button, then it's ok... they remain respected. I think the basics of morality have been lost and now it has simply become what can you get away with...

The dynamic is beautiful

Smug pontificator juiced-up on outrage ratings dollars
Whateley backed down so quickly. Big-time tough talk about Jordy being "unrecruitable", then Hodge comes on, gives a completely different take. Whateley didn't challenge that view at all. So soft not to push back.

Gerard will have to wait for Robbo tonight on Foxtel to get his outrage on.

I understand where you are coming from. But what of AFL supporters in general, our supporters, female supporters, our AFLW players and Netball players and our Sponsors and the AFL who believe what De Goey has done was offensive, and who has a history of issues with alcohol/ women?

Sounds like you're suggesting that our female players and fans may be offended on behalf of someone who is not offended - the 'victim' no less.

If the 'victim' is not offended, no one has the right to cast outrage on that persons behalf. In fact that is offensive in itself.

In short it's a clutching at straws.

I doubt with the Micks you would be. Sinning then repenting and being cleared of said sins is raison d'etre
Yeah, but with the gossipy Irish who lure you in and get you to drop your guard with their amiableness and booze, you're more likely to get caught and have to repent.

There is perhaps no bigger fence-sitting wimp than Whateley.
