Reckon half the players in the league would be in trouble if socials and phone cameras were readily available in 70s and 80s
I think the players of that era would have much less issue. Community standards and expectations around behaviour were much stricter then. The players were much more part of their community. There would have been a drink in the social club after the match and then maybe they found a pub or a pub with a band. Most pubs were closed by 10 pm and the few venues that stayed open later were mainly done by just after midnight. Unless you were in someones house party Melbourne was closed. More players would have played close to where they grew up so much bigger numbers would have still lived with their parents. A trip interstate would have been a big deal, getting on a plane would be a novel experience and overseas travel a very special event.I don't think you can compare community standards & expectations from the 70s to what they are now.
Players would have got away with much less, they would have been working all week and squeezing training between. Life in the 70's was much more pedestrian than today.
