Um, no. Contracts were negotiated and then the AFL applied the COLA amount. My point is that cola enabled us to pay lower base salaries / marketing budgets to our other players, freeing up space for the stars.

Adams. Plus we wouldn't have signed him in the first place.Hypothetical:
If Dawson was still with us, who would he replace?
The AFL "applied" the amount which we then paid.Replace “tax” with “cola”
It is particularly important to distinguish between statutory incidence and economic incidence. The statutory incidence of a tax is who the law says pays the tax. That's not the subject of this section. The economic incidence of a tax is who really bears the tax.
James Jordan wouldn’t have been traded in. Shame to not have Dawson and Liz on opposing half back flanksHypothetical:

To me Jordan is still the player that I’m most dissapointed in losing. At the time there was no doubt in my mind that he was the best kick in the game. After so long being a hard grafting team, to suddenly be one of the best kicking teams meant that we could slice teams open as we have this year. In my mind Dawson was the key reason for it. For him to shaft Sydney in two ways, one by leading us on acting as he would signon and then by allowing Adelaide to screw us in the trade when he said it was about “returning” home rather than a club, means I took great pleasure in his obvious frustration at the end of last nights match. Especially after we took him late, when he didn’t have an obvious best position and developed him so well. He was so obviously worth a top5 pick.If we thought he was going to be as good as he is now, he would have been worth two top 10 picks.
At the end of 2021, his value was a pick in the 5-10 range. Saad, Hill, Cerra, all were similar and all got picks in that range. There was no ambiguity over Dawson's value in a trade.
And we had no option to accept what we accepted as he was uncontracted and Adelaide could take him in the preseason draft for nothing.
I don't watch enough of them but for all the talk of him impacting more through positional change with them...he seems to not impact in the air as much as he did with us.To me Jordan is still the player that I’m most dissapointed in losing. I know I’m petty, but for me, three years without Adelaide finals is one of the sprinkles on top of the cupcake of our performance this year
I agree, he doesn't have the aerial impact he used to have, but he's made up for that in other areas. He's also their best player and doesn't get the time and space he used to with us. Still prefer the Sydney version though. He seems to fly under the radar so much at the Swans and his class was elite.I don't watch enough of them but for all the talk of him impacting more through positional change with them...he seems to not impact in the air as much as he did with us.
Hope he is regretful too
It was ALWAYS about family with a garnish of disposable income. Anything else is obfuscation. My bet is that he was going to stay and his family talked him out of it.In terms of changing clubs and having a chance at success this is probably one of the dumbest trade requests in recent times.

Yep, that's why when Chad mentioned the GF, a cold chill went down my spine....His Mrs. It's Jolly 2.0
You never regret a decision that prioritises family. It was ALWAYS about family with a garnish of disposable income. Anything else is obfuscation. My bet is that he was going to stay and his family talked him out of it.
Dawson has proved he is good in the guts. His problem is he has little support in the middle. The brutal reality for Dawson could be that no team is going to win a premiership with Dawson as their best player in the guts. He is good, but perhaps he is not that good.
I think Sydney thought this, hence playing him on the wing (and I’d argue playing him more to his strengths for overall team performance).
This, plus his aerial ability, speed, power and kicking ability. I think he was better playing off wing/hb. Doesn't mean that's where he prefers to play though.Dawson has proved he is good in the guts. His problem is he has little support in the middle.
Adelaide have developed poorly, most of their growth has come from players they've recruited rather than drafted and developed themselves
It has been 3 years and why haven't we thought of this yet? BrilliantI have no real interest in this topic, let bogongs be Burgoynes etc, but can’t understand why the thread title isn’t Grand Theft Jordo. Missed opportunity.
Hiding in plain sight. It has been 3 years and why haven't we thought of this yet? Brilliant
5 to go in the last he dead set squibbed going back to contest a ball, camera side wing. I know the game was over but not a great look from your captain. Result was an uncontested mark and forward 50 entry.I don't watch enough of them but for all the talk of him impacting more through positional change with them...he seems to not impact in the air as much as he did with us.
